Debates on OT are happening in a "by-the-way" fashion no matter how their frequency indicates otherwise. And GS would never host a board solely devoted to debates. Thats going far from the actual purpose of the website.
Also the line between simple discussion and debate is not very clear so more trouble for the mods to moderate threads that dont fit certain criteria and users crying that their threads were appropriate for the OT section because they didnt inted for it to stir debates. But debates are starting out of nowhere and what makes them start is the nature of OT itself.
Also if there was a separate debate board then not many people would bother looking at it. Most users like to debate in a non-formal fashion. They dont want to go to an official debate board.
It would take too much effort for it to work alright, like having many mods about. Even then, it can still explode up, so probably best not to do it now.
