Almost every image board on the web has an option to "sage" (sage means age in Japanese, which is where it comes from)a thread, that is, reply to the thread without bumping it to the top. Gamespot fourms should include this option, especially in OT. It will enable users to reply to threads that they aren't so thrilled with, and give their opinon without bumping it to the top. For instance, when a user is spamming threads and you don't want to feed the troll, you would reply with out bumping it so the thread would sink quicker. You might not want to encourage it, but it would also give people the ability to reply to account suicide threads with out keeping them alive.

1: We're not allowed to reply to suicide threads anyway.

2: Why would we want to reply to a troll?

3: I disagree with this idea.

1. The reason we are not allowed to reply to account suicides is because it bumps them to the top, keeping them alive longer. 2. Not for trolls, but like that one guy who spammed threads about his sexuality everywhere. Use sage so that they don't go back to the top.

I really like this idea, they probably won't change the system unless they see it as absolutely necessary tho.

I'm for it. Occasionally I find an old topic I want to reply to but know I'd probably just get moderated for posting in it.

Nope. We don't need trolls and spammers getting any attention. Posting in account suicide threads is a moderation. I disagree with the idea.

Really bad idea.

Posting in an account suicide thread is an automatic suspension...no one in their right mind wants to be suspended...does a single post added to a post count mean so much?:?

Which is all it would come down to is post count since if the thread doesn't move....no one will respond. There is no conversation. I don't like this idea at all...

The reason why it is a moderation is becase it bumps it to the top. Trolls and spammers would not be getting much attention, becase the thread would go down the list instead of staying at the top. How are they getting more attention? People will reply to the threads anyway, why not make it so they don't bump if you don't want it to bump.

Must I say it again? The reason you cannot post in account an hero threads is becase it BUMPS THEM TO THE TOP, KEEPING THEM ALIVE LONGER. I don't post for the post count, un like some people *LJs9502_basic, cough,* :P I post becase I have something to say.

It's a violation because it bumps the thread, this may or may not change if the "sage" option is added.

So you can ask the TC any final questions before he goes, like for instance out side contact info if he was your buddie. Or to wish him farewell.

Accounts suicide threads do not dissapear? News to me. I guess because 99% of the time they don't have pr0n or censor bypassing. Am I right? Because the few that I have witnessed and the lot that I have heard about are no longer there, I've had to use google cach to see them.

That is slower. By the time he gets it, he might be banned and then he might have never seen it! So posting in the thread real quick is the best bet.

We hide it so we can moderate everybody that violated the ToU and it takes it out of public view. If we deleted them then nobody would get moderated except the TC.

Well, that's what I mean. Hardly anything is ever deleted like you said, even if you have a direct link, it just says "Error: You are not allowed to view topics on this board" That implys that there is a private board where all threads that moderators "delete" go too.

I dont see the point of it.

It may prevent bumping but at the same time users most likely check topics that are on the first pages.

If someone goes and replies in an oooold topic without bumping it, chances are no one, including the TC, will see it.

:/.....lawsuites over some silly internet name calling? I don't think so. And anyway, I'm talking about posting untill the moderator gets a chance to move, delete purge, whatever the thread. Nah, I don't see the need for it here. Basically the only time you'll see it being used on "that" site or any like it is when they're complaining or calling a thread crap for whatever reason. Despite there being tighter rules in GS, I still see that happening here, and it causing a bit of tension in the forums. I'd rather we encourage people to leave threads/people they don't like completely alone and to not bother with them, since that accomplishes much, much more. Any use it would have really wouldn't be worth it on GS, imo.

No one would be able to tell if you saged, though. On a lot of image boards, whatever name you post as turns blue and becomes a link when you sage. No such thing would happen on gamespot. It's against the rules to insult anyone, and just because people might break rules is no reason not to do something. That's what moderators are for.

I'm not sure if the Terms of service state that Gamespot is responsible for what is posted, in fact I'm quite sure they state that they are NOT responible for what is posted. The idea that a site could get sued over something a user posts (against the rules, too) is far out.

Account suicide threads are a ToU violation because of content, and even if a post didn't bump the thread, it serves as an acknowledgement of the content...thus whoever posts in one gets moderated...so a sage option won't get anyone out of a moderation.

I'm not sure why it's so important to add to dead threads...but GS does not need a sage option. If the thread is locked...it's done. It it's viable then someone will bump it. As for account suicides...that is GS stance on them...so no use discussing it.

Umm, I can't say I'm for this.
1. There's should be no reason whatsoever to post in an account suicide thread. If you want to ask the TC a final question, just send him/her a PM.
2. Too many people would post in old threads to boost their post count.
