Avatar Keeps Erasing

I've had this issue for the past few days now, which i've never had before. Basically i put in my avatar URL and sometime later, can be an hour or two, it will have been removed from the upload box from this "Images" in the "Options" panel. And disappear from my profile.

I've tried a number of things including different avatars from two different URL locations.

Any ideas?

Sometimes it disappears from my profile too.

But reappears later, after a few hours or after a day.

So does it revert to the "Circle G" when this happens? By now I may have missed the event, but I'm currently seeing winters.png for Dan, armoredcoreblue.png for AC, and the metallic T (hosted on GS) for Teenaged. I'm assuming the only reason you go back to Options / Images is to see what's going on after you have observed the no-avatar condition - is that right? There is a condition that affects other users where their profile page shows a different avatar than their forum messages. I'm wondering if this might be a variation of the same thing. I see that Teenaged has an avatar hosted on GS now. Dan and AC, have you hosted avatars on GS in the past? And Teenaged, have you hosted your avatar *off* GS in the past? I'm not sure where the avatar is hosted is even a factor, but the transient avatar issue seems to be somewhat fleeting, so it's hard to tell what's going on. The impression I keep getting is that there is some ancient fragment of a database floating around out there that shouldn't even exist anymore, and every once in a while it kicks back in for some reason. For digital data, it's kind of ghostly...

No, I think I have always hosted my avatars on GS.

So never uploaded an avatar image to GS I take it. What about the "Circle G" - does it fall back to that, or is it just blank? Also, is this a profile-only issue?

I'm having the same problem as well. I've tried uploading images and typing in links, and it's always the same. After some time, possibly even less than ten minutes or so, the avatar has disappeared and been replaced by the Circle G image. Then I just have to re-upload/re-insert the image/link. It doesn't seem like a big deal but it's really getting on my nerves D:

I'm seeing that the circle G's are appearing for some users at the same time as others are having older avatars resurrected. But exactly who and when seems to shift around from day to day. I suspect the circle G's and older avatars showing up in profiles must be slightly different symptoms of the same issue. As I pondered the last time this was discussed, this old avatar information must be stored somewhere, but I can't really imagine why. It's like some permanently old database leaks back in every once in a while.
