When video page loads, and you click on the download tab at the bottom of the video, it just shoots you back to the top

Sometimes - for a split second - it shows needs flash 10 to view it, then starts showing the video. Even though it goes ahead and shows the video, I downloaded and installed Flash 10 to be safe and of course it doesn't help, it still won't open the download tab under the video.

Interesting. I'm seeing the "needs Flash 10" message now also (which is new for me), but the download drop down still works here. It might be a javascript problem. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, and logging back in. If that does not help, can you identify a specific video page where this is not working for you? Having one or two pages to focus on sometimes helps a diagnosis along.

It happens on any video. it's not page specific.

Also I just checked on my Laptop, it doesn't work on it either. It is Windows Vista using Firefox, I normally use this which is Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.4 and using Safari.

Did you try clearing your browser's cache and cookies?

yes, twice now. Once this morning (before I posted about trying different systems), and a second time now to make sure I did it correctly. Cache, Cookies and Browsing History for good measure.

I still think a javascript problem is the most likely explanation. Since it is affecting more than one environment you might be getting a bad version of a javascript file. It's not that common, but I've seen it a few times before. When it has happened in the past, it would usually affect a relatively small number of users for several hours (maybe a whole day, give or take). The only way to positively confirm this is with a browser that has a javascript/error console. Bookmark a page that's giving you trouble, clear cache, clear the error console, then load the page from the bookmark and see what the error console says. If you see syntax errors reported for GameSpot javascript files, there's a fair chance you've been hit by this glitch. For most users, the only practical thing to do is wait it out. It has always eventually subsided on it's own in the past. I can't check on it just now, but there might also be a way to expand the download links box manually. If I figure that out later I'll mention it here.

If it was that, would it happen when i try it on other computers and other browsers as well that I normally don't use for Gamespot? I also noticed, I tried checking my account information to see if there was any billing issues or anything like that (I just have it charged to my card and never pay attention to it). It will open the little options menu and the account tab will come up. I click on any links it just loads the Gamespot home page in the little pop up. Seems more than just the Video is acting completely wonky on me.

From the reports I've seen here, the billing pages give a lot of users problems. I don't know if they work for anyone. For billing issues we can only direct users to the Customer Support interface and wish them luck. I think that's a separate issue though. The corrupted javascript file scenario is something that I think is wrapped up in a server side caching mechanism of some kind, and it could be associated with an IP address or a logged in user. That's how it can follow a user around outside of a client-side browser cache. Anyway, have you had a chance to look at your javascript/error console, say in Firefox? It turns out that the download links you are having trouble getting to are actually in the html source for the video pages. It should be possible to manually make them show up. I've been able to do that in a couple cases, but so far my method is a terrible hack. If you want to try it to see if it helps you, go to a video page where you want to see the download links, and then copy the following and paste it into your browser's address/location bar: javascript:dv=document.getElementById('download_video_0'); dv.style.marginTop=''; dv.parentNode.style.height=''; void(0); That's supposed to be one line. With some luck, that might get you to a few downloads.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to work either, tried it on different browsers too. I also contacted Support, and of course I got an email back that said we do not help with free downloads of games which had nothing to do with what I had written them. Obviously they didn't even read what I wrote, posted something random and set the status to closed. Hope they don't treat all paying members like this. :(

It looks like I was right about a corrupted javascript file - the error you're getting on usertoolbar.min.js (errors 1, 2, and 5 in your list) is because part of the end of the file is being chopped off - just as in the other cases I described. My guess from previous analysis was that the problem was somewhere in the file handling prior to the gzip encoding for http. That's only helpful if you want to suppress gzip encoding by telling your browser not to accept it. That's a fair bit more aggressive than what I would suggest for most users, but at least you know about it, and it's something that I know is possible with at least some versions of Firefox. Given that this is the issue, I'm surprised it has lasted this long - in previous instances, it lasted less than a day. I'm also surprised the javascript I mentioned earlier wouldn't open the download list manually. Was that on more than one video page? Can you tell me a page or two that it didn't work on? If the problem continues much longer then I guess I'll recommend pulling the trigger on suppressing gzip encoding, but we'll have to figure out how to do that for one of your browsers, and you'll want to keep in mind that you won't want to leave that browser that way.

Any page. I went to the home page and clicked on the Bioshock Infinite on the main page and it didn't work on that video:

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/bioshockinfinite/video/6276677/bioshock-infinite--gameplay-demo-official-trailer?tag=topslot;thumb;2

And then I went to the video's page and clicked on the first video listed - Dead Rising 2 Video, didn't work on that either:

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/deadrising2/video/6276589/dead-rising-2-tear-them-apart-trailer

I could do this all day, it is any video, you can pick it, and it won't work :(

It's been long enough now I don't remember how long it has been going on, over a week at least.

I tried my little javascript line on both of those pages and it opened the download links as intended. Do have javascript disabled? That seems kind of unlikely given that you aren't having a slew of other issues, but I figure I should ask. Let's combine the javascript line I mentioned above and the javascript/error console. Go to either of the two video pages you just mentioned, then go to the console and clear it. Go back to the browser window and enter the javascript line in the address/location bar. Do you get any errors in the console? If you don't get any errors in the console and the javascript line still doesn't work, view the source of one of those video pages. Perform a search for Choose your preferred download format and tell us if you find it.

There was no error when I tried it. I also viewed source code on the page, here is the only line in it for "Choose your preferred download format:" Choose your preferred download format:HD H.264 MP4130.9MBDownloadHi-Res H.264 MP427.3MBDownloadLo-Res MPEG20.2MBDownloadLo-Res IPOD / PSP5.6MBDownloadclose [x](document.getElementById('download_panel') || document.getElementById('download_video_0')).****display='none'; Hope this helps.

Hmm... So no error with the javascript line, but it doesn't do anything. That's odd. Maybe it just doesn't work in your browsers. Oh well. It was a terrible hack anyway. The source looks sort of like what I was expecting, but I'm guessing the parts you were able to get into your last post were just the "text" - there was other html in there after the "Choose" text - right? There should have also been some a tags with huge href attributes. As a last ditch option, you can copy and past those hrefs into your browser's address/location bar, and that should allow you to download the corresponding video file, but I know you don't really want to be reading html source all the time. If you are still getting the usertoolbar.min.js error in your error console, you can try to suppress gzip encoding in Firefox by doing the following: open about:config, find the setting network.http.accept-encoding, then modify the value to be nothing (that is, blank, deleting everything that's there). Remember - this is a bit extreme, and you don't really want to leave Firefox this way, but if it gets you by for a while as far as getting those download boxes open more easily, you can leave it in place until the usertoolbar.min.js errors go away. After that, you can go back and reset that setting to its default value. Hopefully something works soon.

Update: Problem worked itself out somehow.

Another staff member has reported this problem and it is being looked into. Thanks for your patience during this time.

EDIT: you are correct. Staff fixed the problem earlier. Thanks

If you are still seeing this behavior, please let us know here. We pushed out a change that we believe addresses the issue, but seeing as it's a rare bug that is difficult to replicate, we want to make sure it's actually fixed.

Well I'd say that it's back... I'm completely unable to watch any videos on gamespot, it just sits there on the "Need flash player 10" screen.. I've tried multiple videos on both SD and HD and none of them work.

AMD, Windows 7 64bit, Firefox.

Thanks, it's working for me now. Sorry it's been awhile. Can only try so many times and fail before you get tired of trying and take a break.
