I came here to post the same idea, so I'll just add a "me, too." I would love to know when I meet other members which games are their favorites, and, conversely, which they hated but still own because we're just compulsive about that!
I'd love to have a section in the games section of the profile (or even "About Me") to highlight favorite games, or most-played games, or even top one or two from each genre represented in your collection. I think it would enhance the camraderie around here; put members in better touch with each other on common ground; encourage and invite debate, discussion, and inquiry; and facilitate union and community building. I have different kinds of games, as most of us do, and I'd love to give props to my favorites--and let other members know which they really should try!)
On the business side of things, users' favorites could be compiled into the GameSpot Trax report to give publishers and developers a good idea of what people's current and nostalgic faves are (maybe two different sections in the profile, too), helping them pick IPs for sequels, recurrences, updates, etc. (and which to let go).
Since we already have profiles, and different sections for games (tracking, collection, wish list, playing), adding one more shouldn't (not a programmer, so I'm hoping I'm right) be overly difficult, since it pulls from the same database. And it could be limited to, say, top 25 games of all time or something, to make it less onerous on the server and make the selections more careful and special. I would also like to annotate each one with a brief paragraph: why I like the game, wish I still had it or a machine to run it, what others it inspired me to play, etc. I think this feature could be a lot of fun and add value to the profiles, community, and developers.
