While using the site today I've noticed that both of your main images at the top of the news feed are cut right through the middle of the image. The Skyrim Remastered post showed a pair of lips and some trees, while the Injustice 2 article shows Batmans chest.

It just looks all kinds of bad, the focal point of these images is the head, which is usually cut off.

You should have some kind of tool that allows you to modify the thumbnails that each image generates. I use one and rarely have issues like this anymore.

@suicidesn0wman: With our publishing system, it's a little more complicated than that, but yes, this is an issue we're aware of and looking for a sustainable way to fix.

@wemmick: Yeah, I can tell by looking at your css, it's a mess. I made some changes to the page but it's so unorganized you could never replicate them! lol

I changed background-size for the 1210px media query on kubrick-lead, and max-width on kubrick-curtains to match that width at 75%. It's not perfect but it's a 1000x better than the current output. Of course if you took the suggestion as a temporary solution, you'd have to adjust the rest of the media queries yourself.

@suicidesn0wman: Thanks for the suggestions. : ) The "real" fix is for us to not have images in such different aspect ratios based on a single original image, and that's in our list o' things to do for Q3.

@wemmick:That would help a lot wouldn't it? I only use 16:9 images with a min size of 1920x1080, the site will always look exactly how I intend for it to. You could also layer your elements and use the <img> tag instead of a background, use javascript to adjust the image and curtains on the fly. Or even better, use the <picture> tag with srcset so your responsive/mobile ready. That image should be max size of 640x360 on mobile widths, save on data usage and be more google friendly. Though I'm sure you guys are already planning something similar right?

@wemmick: Noticed I missed something earlier, you could also simply just add "background-position: center top;" to .kubrick-lead and it'll solve the positioning problem without having to do too much editing. Would be the only change needed.

@suicidesn0wman: That would only work with some images - we use the same images in a dozen (or more) different places, sizes, and aspect ratios, so we try to use images that will work in as many of those placements as possible. For that particular page, the aspect ratio makes the image difficult to work with.
