I'm amazed that a forum belonging to such a big website has serious issues. For example right now as I make this thread, I see NO forum related buttons here. Have you guys ever used a PHPbb or VBulletin forum? Why not use these well-designed forum softwares instead of ending up at the obvious outcome: failing at reinventing the wheel? When I hit Reply in any any thread, I do see some formatting buttons (simple and very plain formatting like bold and so on) but none of them contain forum related features: - QUOTE button - URL - IMG And so on. In one replying I thought I was inserting the QUOTE tag correcting but it was rejecting my post. There are tonnes of other defects but there's no use of me listing those. Please, integrate PHPbb or Vbulletin (that one costs but phpBB is free) and make this into a real forum.

You can edit your own posts, it's the drop down in the lower right corner for you post... Also, the WYSIWYG editor has link and image embed buttons, but not quote.

Yes I found out about the "edit" feature which is hidden in the drop down. I see no reason why the edit button shouldnt have its own visible link. Its a commonly used featured. It shouldnt be hidden in a dropdown. As I reply to this forum, I have no buttons at all. I cant see any link or image embed options in the other regular forums. I'm using Firefox which is atleast 25% of the browser market. I dont understand why developers had to try to create their own (primitive) forum and not reuse PHPbb or Vbulletin which have 50 times the features and they're regularly maintained and upgraded and can be customized to a high degree and integrated with any website template and so on. PHPBb is free and VBulletin I believe costs only $200.

As Spazz pointed out you may have to enable the WYSIWYG editor in "options".

I didnt see him telling me its an option that I have to enable? And even if there was: Every forum has IMG/QUOTE buttons that are enabled by DEFAULT. Please, use a PHPbb or VBulletin forum and you guys will know what a real forum is like. I'm giving feedback here. Most people dont care to. Now I've done my job here on this thread and will not argue any more. Its up to admins if they think any feedback is worth acting on or not.

Nobody is going to change the type of forum we use.

There is a quote button beneath every post. I don't see how it's needed in the editor. There also should be an insert image button when you make a new post. But I don't even use that, I just type out the code manually. Note though that you cannot use HTML or BBCode until level 3.

I think the OP is right, Lithium software has become outdated even when compared to vbulletin 3.8.4 Hopefully stubborn admins can eventually realize this even if Lithium was the very first software used here, not only that but vb4 needlessly to be said outdoes vb 3.8.4

It seems they are using Lithium.

Forums

GameSpot's forums were originally run by ZDNet, and later by Lithium.GameSpot uses a semi-automated moderation system with numerous volunteer moderators. GameSpot moderators are volunteer moderators who are picked from trusted members of the community. However, due to the size and massive quantity of boards and posts on GameSpot, there is a "report" feature where a normal user can report a post to a moderator. The reporting feature saves a lot of time and makes sure a lot more content is handled correctly.

Wikipedia is not always correct...

They were Lithium years ago, before that changed. Wikipedia hasn't been updated since then, apparently.

Oh yeah, I can vouch for that since almost anybody can edit ****. Can't trust it altogether.

One of the main reasons I stay here on GameSpot is because of how well I like the user friendly forums here. (By that I mean easy navigation, not a friendly user base, although there is that as well for the most part.) So I definitely don't support this idea. If the boards became something like GameFAQS, IGN, or a lot of other gaming sites I would most likely leave the site for the most part because I find the features this forum offers a lot better than on other sites. I definitely hope they don't do anything like that in the future. :)
