I noticed on some of the games on this situation: For example: Warriors Orochi 2 (PSP) Critics Score: 6.5 User's Score : 8.1 Gamespot Score : 4.0?!? So there it is, some there is a big GAP between the scores of these three surveys, I practically accept the Critics score because they are CRITICS, but I am strong with the User's score because it has the most opinion, and it is where the game's fate will mostly take place, but how about the GameSpot? Yes, I know they're also gamers but please reconsider this score that you're giving into this game, or even in any other game that has big gaps between the Users and the Gamespot company, even if the graphics really do suck, it's because it's in the PSP, and almost all imports that came into the PSP has degraded graphics right? (well except for Soul Calibur BR). I believe that you guys should read the user's review and not just on the one who will critique the game, and besides, there are many varieties of gamers out there, like a gamer who loves RPGs but definitely hates Racing, the game score gap is just like that, so do you mind basing your scores on the Users, and at the same time, the critics, and not just the gamespot.com itself?

I will never understand the complaining that occurs due to review scores. It is one mans opinion, if you don't agree, then you don't agree. He shouldn't need to change his reviews to "mesh" with your opinion. The review is well written and it is explained why it got a low score. Nothing needs to be reconsidered or changed.

Reviewers don't look at other reviews before they write, so they wouldn't have a clue what the average score was, which is a good thing, as it means we are actually getting their opinion on it, and not just a mixture of everybody else's.

You can't force someone to carry a "popular" opinion of a game to fit the average scores...That completely defeats the purpose of having reviews at all.

Personally I always leave out user reviews cause they are almost always skewed thanks to either fans or non-fans voting high and low respectively. As Mfp16 stated, they are just opinions. You're inevitably gonna have some reviewers love and hate the same game. I have seen that now for over 7 years in my line of work.

Wait, are you trying to say that GS should based their oppinion based off the user's score?

That would kill any integrity GS ever had. A review is the reviewer's oppinion. No one else's. They shouldn't be obligated to givve a game a certain score just because other people liked it.

Understood... that everyone needs to express opinion A little mistake from me, sorry, because I thought that gamespot is basing the scores on an overall system (on the critics plus the user)

Nope. The GS review is GameSpot's opinion. It just tells you the critics and the users too, in order to give you some more options to look at, which I find pretty helpful.

I feel that people should be more careful when going about rating the games they have played. Here is a comment I left at Soapbox: Great article. I agree that your ideas will help users post better reviews, and I commend you on your effort. Now I want to add my own rule: When giving a game a user score; let's say you want to give it a 6.5, because you honestly feel the game merits a 6.5. But then you see that several other users gave it ratings between 2 and 4, so you throw out logic and just think about averaging out that overall user rating to get it closer to your 6.5; so you give it a 10 to affect the overall. New Rule: Give a user score that is what you think the game merits, not one that you think will affect the overall average. In my opinion, people wildly and erratically throwing 1's and 10's around in attempts to affect the overall average user rating is degrading the GameSpot user rating system.
