I just posted in the DS/3DS board, and literally every thread there is 3DS related. I understand the point of combining them before the 3DS was out, but it's out now and it's clogging up the DS forum. The systems are similar in nature, sure, but they're still different systems. They deserve their own boards. If the only reason why they're sharing the same board is because of backwards compatibility, then you might as well let PS2 gamers talk about PS2 games in the PS3 forum.

Gamespot staff has said it won't happen because the two are too similar and that the 3DS is not considered a next-gen system. And the only way you'll find backward compatibility on PS3 is with an older model. Newer ones don't have that.

Well, personally, I feel it's unfair to the DS owners who don't have 3DSes to see their forums flooded by 3DS threads.

The 3DS is most definetely a next-gen system. GS' stance changed, which is why the board name changed. For right now they're going with a unified board because eventually DS threads will become part of Legacy, but the DS isn't ready to be put with those yet.

Oh, okay. I didn't know that. Maybe it would be a good idea then.

It is inevitable. The 3DS threads are already clogging up the board and when the 3DS games start rolling in, so will the threads and rather than waiting until there are so many 3DS and DS threads that they each need their own board, I think it would be best to make a 3DS board now so that problem can be avoided. The 3DS is definitely a next generation handheld and I think there will definitely be a 3DS board sooner or later.

That makes sense. I read Apostle's post and I was like ":? lolwut?" and I figured that wasn't the case. I figured it was something more like that, that the DS is going to become part of the legacy forums anyway so it shouldn't have its own forum for a little while just for that sake.

Not really. The GBA had been pretty much done with by 2006. I would say sometime next year the DS will be ready to be put down alongside the other things. If nothing else, it'll probably go along with the PS3, Wii, and/or 360 when successors to those come out, or at least the NGP is released.

I have a feeling that is too early. They are still releasing DS games on a regular basis and will be for the foreseeable future.

Wait, so let me get this straight. Despite the fact that both GameFAQs and GameSpot have separate search options for the DS and 3DS, they're still going to insist the two systems are similar enough that they should keep a merged board?
