Has Gamespot considered hiring a reviewer that is a PC user?

Not everyone uses consoles...there are members who prefer PC gaming over all other platforms.

Intel, AMD, nVidia, and ATI continue to develop ever better PC components.

There are too many games in the GS database that don't have a review for the PC - even blockbuster games such as Bioshock 2 and Arcania: Gothic 4.

Granted, it's easier to just pop a disc in a tray rather than going through an installation process; however, we do need a reviewer who doesn't mind doing this.

It's not a good feeling when you're anticipating what might be a good game, only to discover that your favorite gaming website doesn't cover the platform.

PC users are Gamespot people too.

Edit: One person that immediately comes to mind would be Kevin Van Ord...he did a great job reviewing Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Starcraft 2 for the PC. Can we have him become the GS resident PC guru?:)

You are right . PC needs the same attention as the rest of the game consoles . Don't know if there are enough GS PC reviewers but if there are not , then there should be . I've been a PC gamer for years and if you don't mind the installation process or some bugs and errors that might occur , its a good gaming console .

Now , since we are discussing about this . What has someone to do in order to get hired as a reviewer for GS ? or at least to become a volunteer in the beginning ?

I agree, PC games really need more attention. And yeah, Kevin is pretty much the only one I can think of. He even gave the PC version of Fallout New Vegasa higher score than the console versions, because apparently it has fewer technical problems on the PC. :)

its a good gaming console .Azaru32

The PC is NOT a console.

Let's not derail the thread, okay?:)

They are different both hardware and software-wise.

One of the main reasons we need a PC-centric reviewer is to give us an idea of what to expect as far as bugs and glitches go. I'm one of those gamers topsemag was talking about, who prefers the PC above all other platforms for gaming, but I', probably among the first to agree with you that a lot of developers either don't know how to optimize a game for the PC platform, or cut corners in QA too often. In my opinion, a good PC game review will touch on little things like "runs great on ATI, stutters on nvidia", or "actually plays smoothly on minimum hardware" as well as just talk about the game itself.

It would be a good thing if Gamespot would include the PC when reviewing new games...as noted by the reviewer, there was a stark contrast between platforms for Dragon Age: Origins.

I completely agree! I used to do most of my gaming on a PC (as well as a PS2). After I got a PS3, I started doing most of my gaming on it, but I still think that it is completely unfair that the PC doesn't get reviews while the consoles do, I still play on that platform and I care about it just as much as any other I own.

Huge. A co-worker of mine bought it for PS3 to begin with, and then re-bought it for PC, and he feels like he's playing an entirely different game.

Kevin's review for the PC was very well done...if Gamespot would agree to allowing him to be our resident PC guru, it would be great for PC gamers.

Microsoft has Mark Russinovich (Windows guru). He left Microsoft, started up the SysInternals website, then returned to Microsoft.

We need a reviewer like Kevin who understands the inner workings of the PC, and would cover the platform when a new game was released.

The PC is the only platform here that does not have a dedicated reviewer...the consoles are already covered well enough, asking for one isn't asking too much.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - released by EA...reviewed for consoles, but a big "N/A No Rating" for the PC.

It would be nice to see a GS opinion on the game, I'm looking at new games with no professional information.:(

Is there at least a chance of having PC versions of new games reviewed after release (Bioshock 2, Gothic 4 weren't covered at all at release)?

Well, GameSpot must have been thinking about this too, because they have hired a new associate PC editor.

Thanks, Caddy - that's good to hear.:)

Kevin can't cover all of the PC games (as much as I'd like him to).:P
