How about an emblem for not being modded after awhile?

Everybody likes emblems, so I think we should have an emblem for not getting modded. The way it would work is this: You get an emblem if you haven't been modded for a certain length of time (staff could decide how long that would be). If you get modded, you lose the emblem. If you don't have it, then the length of time it takes to receive it goes back to start. Would anyone support this idea? I think it would get users to think twice before they post a TOS violation. ;)

What keeps a person from being moderated is a desire to follow the rules. If a person isn't following them, then I doubt a "visual aid" would help any.

While that may be true in some cases, I think it could help prevent moderations in others. :)

How? Are you going to click into your Profile real quick every time before you click "Submit"?:P

A better tool to help prevent a moderation is to click "Preview" and read over your post before posting it.:P

Of course not. That's not the point. The point is that we get an emblem if we haven't been modded after awhile. If we get modded it goes away. It would be like the reviewer emblems, or having a certain number of games in your collection. You have the emblem if you meet certain conditions but it goes away if those conditions are no longer being met.

So if someone with the emblem was moderated...They would lose it? I think that would just cause people to freak out about moderations even more than they do now ;)

Indeed. I would not want to see an influx of queries in TS or AtM when someone gets moderated without a notification and their emblem goes missing. Less confused users = happy community

I agree that would be confusing. What if the emblem goes away IF the modded user gets a notification saying they were modded? Also, I never heard of getting modded without a notification. I've heard of mods deleting posts without modding them, though...

We shouldn't be giving people an incentive to not to get in trouble. They should strive to have a clean history so they are able to improve themselves as a member of the community, not pretend that they're something they're not for an emblem.

I would prefer a different incentive...like admin powers...or...access to in camera discussions...or free GameSpot Total Access trial...or just level points increase.

By not getting moderated you are getting full level increases already ;)

Even though I really like your ideas, i have to agree with Spazz. It could complicate things even more and this would cause more distressed people. Even though I would like a new emblem LMAO

That's not an incentive to not to be moderated. It's an incentive to join the site and be active.

I like the idea of adding an "good conduct" incentive to Gamespot, and emblems have always been excellent incentives. There are two reasons it would not work out, unfortunately:

  1. Users get moderated for misunderstanding forum rules (like asking for how to install OSX on a PC, where OSX is considered pirated software), making it difficult to implement automatically. Coding would be a nightmare since exceptions would need to happen.
  2. Users should want to conduct themselves with decorum for its own rewards. The community is built on users that want to build a positive environment for its own sake, not to get a merit badge.
  3. Good Lord, the outcry when someone lost one!

I still like the idea, though, and if someone can think of better implementation that I, it could benefit the site.

Happy gaming,

Boz

Haha, that would be cool but like others have said, an emblem might be too confusing. Anyway, since the moderators are pretty strict on GS I think users have incentive enough to play by the rules.

I'd think one that says "You managed to avoid any type of moderation for (number) month(s), try to keep it up!" and it doesn't go away. But it would say "This badge may not mean you're still doing this, but you managed to do it in the past, and that's good enough to give you an emblem!"

Would that be good? Although, that'd be abusable, somebody quits for a few months, then comes back and has the badge.

How about an emblem for having an overturned moderation "Justice: For knowing whats right and wrong." I'm kidding but it would be hilarious to see Ask the Mods being flooded with all sorts of questions just for an emblem though.
