In addition to the existing Wish List, Now Playing list, and Collection list, I think it would be useful and fun to have the ability to create a limited number of extra lists, named by the user. For example, one could create a list for "Games Beaten in 2006," "Games I'd Buy for $20," or "Top 10 RPGs" among any number of other ideas.

I've already seen some GameSpot users using one or more of the existing lists (especially the Wish List) for some purpose other than its intended one because they find some other listing criteria to be most desirable. I've even found myself wishing that I could rename the Wish List and use it for multiple other organizing purposes.

As far as specifics go, my initial thought is that users would be able to create about 4 custom lists for their profile, which would be displayed in a row immediately below the existing lists (potentially with a slightly different color scheme or font for distinction). An additional option would be for this feature to be only available to paid GameSpot members, as it's not a restriction on content, but rather a kind of convenient little perk.

Here's a crude mock-up of what user-created game lists might look like in a user profile:

Thoughts, anyone?

I also agree, this is a very good idea. Although I would limit it to 3 custom lists instead of 4. I completely support this.

It's a thoughtful idea, but from the picture you posted demonstrating this it appears that it could make a users game list look very cluttered, which many people wouldn't like, including me!

A fine and dandy idea. Would allow me to split up my wish list into my actual Wish List (of which I'll eventually get 3/5 games), Classics That Bypassed Me (Hurray for Wii Mario 64), and Next-Gen Hopefuls (Spore and the like).

Maybe would want to limit the wording on the categories themselves, keeping it short and sweet. Don't forget that they would probably need to change the coding for transferring games to the different lists as well.

I like the idea but do agree that it looks like it would clutter stuff up. Maybe if there was another main tab or sub tab for the customized lists.

There would need to be limits on title length and I'd rather see a limit of 3. On top of that if you do not use created lists then I would not want the space to just be blank.

I've wanted something like this for a long time, and so have a lot of other people. I fully support this happening, you've got a lot of people backing you up for this addition. :)

I take the blame, a link to this thread was in my sticky ideas thread, but I'm changing it soon so this doesn't happen more. I'm very sorry

I totally suport the idea. :)

I was going to submit an idea for a 'beaten games' list, but this is even better, as there are people who would like other lists than the ones I would :)

I'm down. I like this idea, but i think they should make a big list of categories you could choose from otherwise people would have lists that are called something like "games that suxxorz" and " 1337 titles" and stupid stuff like that, so a big list of categories to choose from would be better. I like this idea anyway.

I am new to the site today. The main reason I joined was to track games and their release dates. It would be nice if they included the release dates on the tracking list and the wish list. Is there a way to do this?
