I have just noticed this problem as well. Can't watch videos becusae of the ESRB warning. I figured it was because I never entered my birthdate in the site, so I went ahead and did that, but still, no, I can not watch videos. For the fact alone that I am a paying member of this site and have valid credit card info should be all the verification that gamespot needs of my age.

Fix this.

So not working for me either. I'm 34, was formerly a paying member (with a CC too), and I've never had a problem with this before. What's going on?

i found a few other threads about the same issue and admins just don't seem to feel it's a problem and do nothing to correct it.

Trying to lock this down--if you could, please respond with the following information:

-What video are you attempting to watch? (Please include the direct link)
-Are you logged into the site when trying to watch it?
-Are you prompted to enter your birthdate?
-What internet browser (Firefox, IE, Mozilla, etc) and version number are you using?

I'm trying out stuff on my end but am having trouble replicating it, so the above info would be a big help. Thanks.

Trying to watch the Area51 Blacksite Demo here http://www.gamespot.com/event/live/area51/

I'm logged in, it just plays an ad and goes to the ESRB message without prompting for my age. Clicking on the download button does nothing at all.

I tried with IE7 & Firefox. BTW, I was actually able to view some other videos, but they DO ask for my birthdate. You may be on to something there. All the vids with ESRB messages do not ask for age.

EDIT: I also tried deleting cookies but still no go.

Hey it's my 52nd birthday today and they won't let me view the new Crysis Review, but I can download it and then view it. I have been a paying member for years - even changed my credit card to try to update my file.. This is BAD Gamespot...you have raised your rates, but don't seem to be improving my service.. Fix this.... And please contact me...you know like you contact my credit card company every year...

Sincerely

Mark "i am old enough" Johnson

This is weird. I'm able to watch the videos you say you can't watch (Crysis and Area51 demo). I've been trying to replicate your problem. I even logged out of site and hopped on to the videos. It did ask for my age when prompted. I used the 6 numbers and viola it worked. I did this method while logged in as well. It does ask for your birthday when I'm logged out of the site. However, logged in it does not ask. I am still able to view the video regardless. I'm assuming it's using my birthday from my profile. I've been using multiple browsers as well. Firefox, IE, and Netscape run fine. *I'm using the most recent browser updates* I don't think it's a browser problem. Clearing cookies and cache wouldn't be effective in fixing it. (BTW I'm 21).

i cannot stream any videos regarding m rated games, but when i go to download them, it prompts me for my birthdate and then lets me proceed with the download, so it works in that respect. i am logged into the site when i try it, all my personal info is correct, and i'm using firefox. i didn't have this problem until maybe a week ago.

Been a gamespot paying member for over 3 years now and this is the first time i've come up with this problem as well, got this error when trying to watch both the Crysis video review and the Kane & Lynch video review. I'm 22 years old and im certain i've put my age in correctly before. However, if i logout and view the video without logging in it works fine, just i have to watch an ad before the video, but since i AM a paying member i shouldnt have to do that.

I just thought of somethingI did that might change how the site reacts.

I am 26, and used to fill that out with the videos, but sometimes when i just wanted to skip the age thing quickly i entered a random age over 18, andI have done this 2 or 3 times. Maybe the site registered this?

I know some people haven`t had any luck with this, but all I had to do was log out.

Had to confirm my date of birth and it played.

Tried to log back in but then I just got the ESRB message again...

I was having this same issue... I went in and updated my billing information, including put in my date of birth. It didn't help, I logged out, logged in, no luck. I then went to my pref's and Applied Changes to every single tab. I now no longer have the ESRB message. And also, I would get the ESRB message, but I could always still download, even though the message said I couldn't download. -What video are you attempting to watch? As mentioned above, we've made some hotfixes that will allow you to watch videos while we research the larger issue.

1. If your birthdate is in your account:

- Open your Preferences by clicking on the "prefs" link in the upper right corner of the screen.

- Click the "Apply Changes" button.

2. If your birthdate is NOT in your account:

Click on a video to watch and it will ask you for your birthdate.

From here on out, you should be able to view age-gated videos normally.

I am 26 and everytime I wanted to watch a video for the past few months, it would prompt me for my birthdate. It would let me watch the video. It would ask me again the next day. One day a few weeks ago I accidently input the wrong year making me 3 years old. I can no longer view any videos for mature games. It never lets me put in my birthdate anymore. When I try to change my birthdate in my preferences (which is displayed as 10/30/1981) I am unable to because it is greyed out. What do I do?
