I'm not trying to be an arse or sound negative about the change, its just that I really, really like the current system. ALOT. Its fantastic as it is currently.

One of the reasons I am a proud member of GameSpot as opposed to other communities like IGN etc is that I truly loved the game rating system here. It precisely breaks down a games important features, and offers enough customization that makes the difference between a "7.1" and a "7.7" worth looking into and considering.

I'll really miss the current rating system, as it is in its current format, the best around, and the new system just doesn't sound all that good.

Am I the only one who likes the rating system as it has been (at least in my year or so around here)?

The current rating scale is much more accurate and helpful, especially for games above an 8.0. The one they're moving to is far too simple. Its not much better than a 1-5 scale rating system.

I agree, change is normally a good thing... but it would seem not to be the case if GameSpot are involved. Every "improvement" they have made in the last month or so has just dragged the whole site down.

The latest change to a new review system is a perfect case in point. We are now going to be inundated with loads more 9's or 8.5's with little to distinguish between them. Then there are the medals, what's the point of them? You have to know what they mean for a start, and there could potentially be dozens of the things for each game. The old system game you all the info you needed at a quick glance, not any more!

It just seems like change for the sake of it, a very well known saying applies yet again: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Bring back Greg Kasavin! This would never have happened while he was at the helm, I get the impression that GameSpot is a sinking ship now it's captain has departed.

it is okay, but I hate how if you acidentaly move the slider it automaitcally adds the rating, and then you can't clear it. WTF!

Yeah that happened to me when I was messing around with it for one game shortly after the new pages went up. And I don't even play the game I tested it on and there's no way right now to reset it. They should've kept the submit button to prevent that from happening. I'm starting not to be pleased with all these changes.

That's a bug that will be fixed. There should be a reset button on it.

As to the original poster, I agree, there is a big difference between a 7.1 and a 7.7, but is there that notable a difference between a 7.7 and a 7.5, or a 7.1 and a 7.0? I'd say not. That's the difference in the rating scale. Frankly, the perception that there was some big difference between scores like these I think is somewhat false, and perpetuated a lot of unnecessary bickering over scores that weren't meant to be bickered over in such a fashion.

And to the guy who mentioned that this never would have happened with Greg around, this system has been in the works since before Greg K. left, and he was on board with it.
