Not entirely sure this is the right place for this, but it is feedback and not referring to specific moderations, so it doesn't really belong in "ask the mods."

I saw this topic got locked, as a moderator decided it belonged in general games discussion. Around the same time, this topic was locked with no explanation posted, I'm assuming it's for the same reason. They weren't my topics, that's not why I'm posting this. I just think that they were not deserving of a lock. They weren't about the 360, but they weren't disruptive. It seems like all we're allowed to talk about on the 360 forum anymore are things directly related to the 360, with no mention of any other console. Topics about specific games, game recommendation, broken 360s, gamertag sharing, clan recruiting, etc. are usually directed toward their respective stickies/forums. This limits topics to mostly questions that could just as easily be answered by google or (maybe not so) common sense.

I remember there used to be a lot more people on the forum, and since I constantly hear people complaining about overly strict moderators I can only assume that's why so many have left. I know I've thought about it a few times. I don't know why the mods are so strict. I'm sure some think they're doing the right thing by modding even the slightest infraction, and I'm sure some just enjoy being in control. But who moderates the moderators? I think it would be good for the gamespot community if they were a little more lenient. Not expecting anything to change by posting this, just giving my 2 cents i guess.

You're right, it's not the right place. I think Ask the Mods is more what you're looking for.

Edit: I know you're saying that it's feedback but you are talking about specific threads getting locked and you're likely to get a better response from moderators there then you are here since moderators are more likely to check out that board then they are this one.

I agree. The mods are unfair. I don't mind getting my message deleted but point loss without reason? Makes me mad.

Every moderation has a reason to it... The Ask the Mods board exists If you don't understand why you were moderated and want to ask. I'd also like to take the time to point out that moderators don't make the rules...We enforce them. A complaint about "over-moderation" is really a complaint about the rules set in place by the legal team at CBS Interactive.

That's why I wasn't too sure about whether this thread should be posted in Ask The Mods. It isn't about moderations themselves but about the rules that the moderators go by. However, as the user linked specific threads I thought he might have wanted clarification as to why those threads were locked which he would have got in Ask The Mods. You may think that moderators are too tough on users but they are following strict rules in the terms of use, your problem isn't with the moderators themselves but with the Terms of Use which the website goes by and I think there's little chance of changing those.

Since Ask the Mods is now an "Moderation Inquiries Only" area and their definition of feedback is, "FEEDBACK: Anything in relation to the site just as long as it is not a bug or glitch report." Then this IS the perfect place to post such an idea.

True, I just thought that he was looking for a response from moderators and that would be the best place to get it. Also, there are some exceptions to the "moderation inquiries only" as you can request stickying threads there but I guess this is the best place.

Oi. I forgot about that last bit where you can still request sticky threads but yeah, I can see the slight confusion. I was confused too after he asked us if this was the proper place or not.

Nothing to do with the recent change to AtM... this was always the right place to post this.

The topics I linked to were just examples of what I think is unnecessary moderation. Nothing about them was really against the rules, someone just decided that they should be in general games discussion. If it had been "best 360 game character," it wouldn't have been modded.

I reviewed the links. It is nothing out of the ordinary. Both topics were not exclusive to the 360 and were general topics. Moving a topic is kind of a long process for the moderators, so it is better to close the topic and leave a note to the OP as to where the correct place to post the thread again would be. Mods are supposed to leave a message when closing a topic to give a reason why the topic was closed. Sometimes this is overlooked.

Sometimes a warning is issued to the person who created the topic. This is not a punishment, but just a PM alert to notify them of the topic being closed so they can look into it.

Keeping the boards tidy and coherent is our job and we try the best to our ability to achieve that.
