Every post. It's annoying.
came here to make a thread on the same subject.
feels like every page i open - abnormal traffic detection!
can you not set a cookie or something rather than force me to do a capture on every single page?
i'm not on a vpn by the way, so it's a false positive.
i'm not sure if it's linked to my user account. i logged out and clicked around (chrome) and didn't get it. logged back in and did. i also tried in firefox logged in and out and didn't get it so not sure if it's chrome related or i was just lucky.
either way needs looking into guys
i think i have found a workaround that works for me.
just try refreshing the page.
^
Good advice my man.
Hey All - We have fixed this issue and should no longer be happening on every single page. Please let us know if it is continuing to have this behavior! Thanks everyone for letting us know!
nope sorry. when adblock is enabled i get it all the time. i've just had to turn adblock off because of how frequently it happens

So that's how some are getting this effect. I had no idea on how it's asking are you a robot. I turn mines off on this site so I didn't know what's the problem here.

tbf to the gs devs there's definitely been a reduction in spam bot invasions so the protection may well be helping in that regard.
but the warning is definitely triggered by adblock, meaning the only way to use the site hassle free is to disable adblock.
the cynic in me thinks that is... a happy coincidence for gs to say the least
Hey guys, thanks for bringing this to our attention! Seems like the issues being reported here might be one or two separate issues. Trying to clarify the specific issue here - is everyone getting the "Abnormal Traffic Detected" page with Adblock Plus on? Or are we just getting the Recaptcha box on the bottom of the comment box?
If you could reply with your browser, if you have adblock on (and what time if you do have one), and whether or not if you have any special services that might affect your network traffic (VPN etc.)
Sorry about the issues - we are looking into it!
I have Adblock on and get this robot crap almost every single time I click on anything on the Gamespot site it's beyond annoying.
Just a heads-up, if it's a toss-up between losing adblock and losing Gamespot, Gamespot does not win. Seriously, I'm gone if your site is unusable without tons of ads assaulting me every five seconds. Same applies if every single thing I click on asks if I'm a robot.
If it's deliberately, then pretty shitty move on Gamespots part. And counterproductive, prodding people ultimately pisses them off than promoting cooperation.
I'll assume it's an unfortunate bug, and hopefully it will get fixed than just prolonging an extremely irritating problem that serves no one.

chrome, adblock plus on, no vpn. get the abnormal traffic / captcha thing all the time.
disabling adblock fixes it for me.
thanks for looking into it, it's an absolute pain in the arse
We are determined to get this elusive issue resolved. We did make another change yesterday. Let us know if things seem fixed now. If not, could you PM me so I can get a couple details from you? Thanks
In terms of usability and efficiency, a quick inspector diagnostic reveals a very complicated page loading routine with alot of scripting.
For a company run by a big company CBS Interactive that only make big websites this is kind of surprising.
I think it would be a good idea to hire a talented programmer sooner rather than later and let him lead the team.
This problem looks set to stay until you do that.
Along with not being able to rename titles on topics and a bunch of others but the performance. Jeez.
Thats 20 seconds of scripting to load one page. I admit my laptop is running slowly for reasons but it's still the slowest web page I go on but then I avoid BuzzFeed and stuff.
I applaud that ads are at the bottom and still images but the ads that are sometimes in the sidebar are using alot of cpu too and I have adblocker on and still get loads of ads so I fear to think how many there would be with it off.
@jackamomo: I didn't bring it up, because it didn't seem to relate to this, but yes. This is a fairly decent PC, with adblock on, and loading a page makes opera have a nervous breakdown. Scrolling up and down turns into a jittery mess.

i thought you'd fixed it. hadn't seen it after i'd opened several threads. i came to this forum, clicked on this thread and... bam, got the abnormal traffic three times in a row before it would let me pass.
so close
I have reached out to Macutchi for some details. I will report back when I have more.
In the meantime, it would be great if anyone else has the issue could share a screenshot of the page they getting, along with what you were doing on the site when it happened.
Thanks.
Not sure what changes happened (whether on my front, or the site), but in my case, things have got worse. Before I was able to browse the site by adding an exception for GameSpot on Adblock. But now I can't browse the site without turning off Adblock completely... While I didn't mind making an Adblock exception for GameSpot, having to completely disable Adblock is ridiculous.
As an experiment, turned Ublock off to see if it was specifically that. It's still doing it regardless. Are you a robot 4-5 times per a page with multiple refreshes, and posts coming up with a "sorry something went wrong" requiring multiple copy paste refreshes.
Turning ublock off as well, really, really chugs up the browser. It was jittery before, now the page outright can't scroll up or down for seconds at a time.
Come on man, this is shit ridiculous.
I counted when coming onto these forums to complain about it; it asked me twenty f***ing times before I just started to hit F5 till it worked. Gamespot has already taken up the vile practices of rehashing old stories, click-bait titles and spamming; I assume this site is haemorrhaging money and Cnet just wants to be done with this so they can shut it down be annoying the visitors.
Which is working in my case.
Like many of the people above, I'm still having this issue. I don't post on the forums, but I'm a regular visitor to the main site: as with others I'm using Chrome, AdBlock, no VPN. I am asked if I am a robot at absolute minimum once every time I visit the site, however over the last week it's started asking me about 10 to 15 times before it lets me in. This is then repeated every time I leave the site and return, and frequently just when changing pages within the site.
Edit: the full page recaptcha one, not just below posts as asked above.
Well done GS. Now about that scrip routine... Looking at your page source, it doesn't look good.
There's about 14 pages of inline javascript from the off and some very sloppy inline styling.
Also now when I edit a post I can't see the thread any more. :(
But well done on the bot thing!
