First it was the ad covering images of games. Then it was the ad that covers the news, "Latest and Greatest", and the top news/previews/reviews section.

Hey Gamespot, please don't use such annoying ads. I am heading to IGN. At least they don't intentionally block the content with ads even if it's for a brief period of time.

GameSpot has their right to advertise. It's the only way they get money. Sure, some ads are pain in the nuts (like the ads that cover the screenshot gallery), but if they bother you so much, why not just subscribe to GameSpot?

Because of the ads, you get to use Gamespot for free. Don't complain about getting something for free, its just wrong. If your parents gave you a gift you don't like, would you complain that its not good enough and ask them to buy something better? No, unless you're just spoiled and unapreciative, which judging by your post, you just might be.

Besides, if you hate the ads that much, just sign up for GS Complete.

1. Sign up for GameSpot Total Access

OR

1. Download the Firefox internet browser

2. Install the ad-block plus application.

Haha, wow, I didn't see this posting, but it just shows how bad this advertisement stuff is.

The point is, people, is that the content shouldn't be blocked ever like it is from these advertisements. There's a lot of cleaner ways they can advertise, and still get the money that they are getting to keep their servers and employees running.

As a web designer, I know how important it is to keep this in mind: Make it as easy to the user as possible.

You shouldn't annoy your userbase like that. That's just a design flaw that needs to be fixed. It's minor, I know, but it's just irritating. There's people who are really slow in this world, and if they see stuff like the news blocked -- what are they going to think and do?

Let me add my name to the growing list of users getting fed up with gamespot's increasingly invasive ads. I have been a daily visitor to gamespot for about 5 years, maybe more, and I hope to continue to visit the site. The flash ads that play music/ sound unbidden are absolutely unacceptable however. It's one thing to have animated flash ads as a part of the site. It's another thing to FORCE the user to rollover the ad, playing an obnoxious sound on the way to clicking the 'X' button to close the damn thing, just to see what is on the page! I used to be a gamespot complete member for two years. The reason I no longer subscribe, is that there wasn't enough exclusive content that I had to have to justify the $40 price tag. Do I really need HD-quality closeups of Jeff Gerstmann's face? No. In particular, the ad that pissed me off was the 'sublymonal advertising' full-screen covering ad from Sprite. If I'm forced to wade through loud, obnoxious ads designed to make it difficult to navigate the site (by changing size/ shape as you mouse over) I might have to consider looking elsewhere for my gaming news & reviews.
