I don't really know what it's like on the X360 forums since I rarely visit them, but most PS3 forums are full of 12-year old X360 fanboys trolling, which really gets irritating after a while. And most of those topics stay active because other 12-year olds are responding "No, X360 sucks!".

How about making a system to stop that? Rating forum posts and hiding them should work, and I think it's only needed in the system-specific forums. Just make it possible for people to disable the hiding of posts, if thats what they want.

Even with all that, people will abuse the system.

The same trolls that post on the forums will abuse those ratings to drive everyone else down.

Your best bet is to just report those who are trolling.

From the report, "Intending solely to annoy and/or offend other users."

yeah, but the trolls will always be heavily outnumbered (especially on boards of other systems) so I don't think they'll make much of an impact really.

Yeah, maybe. But from browsing the boards I got the impression that mods dont take trolling/fanboyism very seriously unless theyinsult other users. Maybe incubus_1_7 proved me wrong =)

I think the thumbs up/thumbs down thing in the blogs would work here. Enough thumbs down, and like the blog, the forum post is shrinked.

That sure worked in my Blog with a user that was making un needed posts. However on a fourm I think it would become a super big mess. Better to Report and move on. then Laugh when you get the PM saying your Report was gotten to. That report abuse button is your best friend when there is mass trolling and flaming :)

Exactly. Also, if you don't respond to trolls, it makes it so much easier. If you do, it just adds fuel to the fire. They are just trying to get a reaction from you, so if you ignore it, you take away their fun. Plain and simple :)

Fuel to a fire? I have seen that already :) Oh wait I'm thinging of the wrong thing >_>

It goes back to the saying of Don't feed the trolls. Don't feed them and they go away after a while :) If you did not get food from your mom and dad would you not leave as well?

I agree with what has already been said which is that the rate post feature would be abused if it was used in the forums. Some people would troll by just giving everybody negative ratings. Remember, if you see somebody trolling others, just use the report abuse feature and it will be dealt with.

Rating posts will just end up being horribly abused. The best thing you can do with these threads is mark them for moderators to delete them by marking them as "Intending solely to annoy and/or offend other users" aka: trolling.

Why don't people just report trolls? We can do more than discourage them... we can make it so they can't post at all.. :?

Voting down posts only address the symptom, not the cause. Those same tolls are free to keep making new posts to be voted down. If you report them when they do it, eventually they'll get suspended or banned.

In addition, I think the comment rating is one of the worst ideas ever implemented here. All it does is reinforce the majority. Posts that are voted down aren't voted down because they're unhelpful or poorly-written, but because they don't agree with the majority. Any idea but the most popular one gets hidden.

I don't like the rating comments either. All it does is promote fanboyism, as many of the posts that are hidden are simply someone disagreeing with the majority like you've said. I find it funny how when I read articles about Sony doing well and people say "Great news for Sony" in their comment, it has a -5 vote count because people don't like that they supported Sony. It's a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

Well, it was the best idea I could come up with.

Since I created this topic I've reported quite a few posts, with very different results.
Most of the troll-posts in the PS3-forum in "Platform Forums" get removed/locked.
But on the game-forums I very rarely see any actions from the mods.
Just look at the Heavenly Sword forum right now, it's a complete mess mostly because of a few trolls.
Anytime someone says something positive about the game or asks a question, trolls jump out. In every single topic.

example:
Does anybody know the order of the levels?
I'm pretty sure the first one is the snow one, and the second one is the one from the demo, but I have no idea about the others.
This game is gonna own.clank345

Haha, it already flopped. Just save your money and wait for a better PS3 game, assuming the PS3 can have games better than this.kirinfang

Do Gamespot's and Gamefaq's boards have different mods? It would explain the big difference..

yes the game Forums are run by gameFaq's which have differnt Mods. and not that many. That is why GameFaq's is full of Trolls and the like. They need better and more Moderators to fix that issue.

They really need to either completely merge GS and GF or seperate them. I consider the game-specific boards pointless as it stands now.

I'd go with Seperate them. GameFaq's is full of trolls all over the place and most of them hate us GameSpot Users. Seperating them would be best IMO. Merging them would make a bigger mess than needed/wanted.

The trolling can be a problem in the forums, especially the System Wars board (which I stopped going to), but rating posts would be useless, I think. I mean, these are posts, not reviews.

Separating GS and GF again would make virtually every user of both sites dance an e-dance of giddy glee.

Yeah, with good reason too. I think something should definitely be done about the whole situation, whether it was seperating or not. The whole situation is a bit all over the place at the moment.
