I've tried searching the forums several times for an anwser to this question, but alas, none could be found. Was also unsure were to post this query, as it isn't a website "issue", but more of a general wondering.

Anyhoo, to get down to business. There are plenty of 3rd party blogging software/extensions out there that allow you to post new blog entries without actually having to be on your blogs website. An example of this is the very nifty 'Performacing' extension in Firefox. You simply piont the extension in the direction of your blog, and you can add new posts without having to step foot on blogs hosts website. In this case, it would be GameSpot.

However, configuring extensions like this with GameSpot seems to be a bit tricky. In order to get the extension to work, you simply enter the URL of your blog and it'll do the rest. But what exactly is the URL to a GameSpot users blog? I've tried the obvious http://www.gamespot.com/users/Username but it seems to fail.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what the exact URL could be?

Cheers for the speedy response, much appreciated.

I seem to have tried that one a while back, but gave it another go. Sadly, no result.

There is no separate blog page, since your profile is essentially your list of blog entries. So your main blog page would be http://www.gamespot.com/users/Wee87/, and your link to post blog entries would be http://www.gamespot.com/pages/profile/post_blog_entry.php. Performancing probably won't work since we built our blog code from scratch, and that extension is designed mainly for more popular blogging software like WordPress. I tried plugging in a number of possible URLs and it didn't work very well. I'll keep looking into extensions that might be compatible; Performancing is no longer being maintained, as far as I can tell.

Thanks Vince. The biggest issue is that when I set my profile to Friends Only or Private, then that URL used for the blog as well contains the following message:

" This user profile is private"

Therefore setting my profile to private and my blog to public does me no good. If there were seperate URLs for profile and blog that didn't interconnect, then it would make those settings more worthwhile.

That is because whatever software you are using doesn't have cookie capabilities to know that you are logged in. Unfortunately, there isn't any recourse that we can do for that. Blogs will most likely always be linked to your profile. We are looking into creating a more blog specific page within your profile (rather than just the main profile page) but it will still look to the profile visibility preferences.
