Website is SLOW

This website has been incredibly slow during the past few days. It often takes 20+ seconds to load a page, where it usually took 2 or 3 before. Sometimes it doesn't load a page at all, or it redirects me to a search engine.

Is this temporary?

I'm pretty sure it's temporary. I doubt anybody wants a permanently slow load time. We'll just have to wait until they iron out the kinks. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the impressive spectacle of a big G turning into... the word Gamespot! Oooooh. Aaahhhh.

Yes, this is temporary. We're optimizing and constantly pushing code. Expect this to get better.

Upgrade to Google Fiber.

Why wasn't the code optimized and tested BEFORE it went live?

@midnightsteel: Because hiring 50000 testers world wide to hit the site at once is a tad expensive

I would recommend outside help for this site being slow. Perhaps you can get an IT expert from your sister site CBS Sports witch has a lot more content and pictures and works really fast.

There is no reason a brand new website is this slow. It should get slower after you add more content.

On the plus side, the forums are loading good for me but I haven't used them that much.

This site is an unusable lag-fest now. I'll try back in a couple of weeks. If it's not fixed by then I'll just start reading one of the other game sites instead. This is horrific. It should be put back the way it was until this mess can be fixed.

During the open beta and the first day of the new site being the main one, I had to wait ten to fifteen seconds for a page to load. Today, pages load in about five seconds which is better, but the old site was faster when functioning properly.

For me at the moment, slowest loading site I'm using. Hope to see it get better.

I really don't think 2 or 3 seconds of optimization will fix this. This is really sad for a new web site. You really need to pony up some money and get some outside help.

It's annoying but it will be fixed eventually. I just may not spend that much time here until then.

I hope, it gets faster soon.
