racketboy.com pretty much covers everything you mentioned on almost all the older systems, and i think they did a pretty good job covering the basics. i have been reading it quite a bit and it has gotten me to check out some games i missed out on.

Holy Shnikes! Gmsnpr! Why have you never told me about these? I trust you for all my cable news (no not the CNN kind).

I thought I had... I've got Psyclone's GC S-Video cables running with my SNES. The reason I got rid of my 2nd model SNES was the lack of S-Video support.

I think our own system guide would be cool, but they have the tendency to devolve into highly subjective lists. If you want to go pure rarity or market value, you can do that pretty concretely with Digital Press's guide and a trip to eBay. Asking for forgotten gems or which platformer is the best might turn into a shouting match. Also, isn't this addressd by our "Games for your Consideration" thread?

That said, Hagane is a Hudson SNES game that I've been trying to find a complete copy of for roughly 1 year. It's supposed to be a little like Turrican crossed with Revenge of Shinobi.
