For me it would be
Final Fantasy: I do so love this series. The gameplay, the stories, the music. I have yet to play a Final Fantasy game that I don't like. In some form or other I own Final Fantasy 1-13 (including X-2)
Warcraft/Starcraft: Fantastic games. Warcraft II was the second RTS I ever played (Command & Conquer being the first). I loved it so much I tracked down the original Warcraft. I've probably played through the whole Warcraft II campaigns at least a dozen or so times (course back then I really only owns a handful of games so my choices were limited). Starcraft build on the foundation laid in Warcraft II and showed the world that you could have completely different factions and make it work. Warcraft III kicked it up even more by moving to 3D and adding a fourth faction. I'm really looking forward to Starcraft II
Ghost Recon: Awesome tactical shooters. I love the Ghost Recon games.
LucasArts Adventure series: Sam 'n' Max, Day of the Tentacle, Secret of Monkey Island, there was time when LucasArts was known not for pumping out Star Wars titles, but for the creative and funny adventure games they put out. Full Throttle, LeChuck's Revenge, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. All were built using the SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) engine which was initially created for Maniac Mansion (obviously) where we first meet Bernard and the tentacles who feature in DOTT. Anyway, these DOS games are gems, if you ever find a copy, get it. Don't worry about trying to run the DOS version though because there's a windows port of the SCUMM engine (www.scummvm.org).
Other honorable mentions:
Dark Forces series
Harry Potter games (don't make fun for some strange reason I love them)
Wild Arms series
For me, I can only think of 2 series I absolutely love:
Doom and The Elder Scrolls.
I first played Doom shareware when I was 12 or 13 and it was awesome. I got the shareware later on and played it until the floppies went corrupt (did a lot of uninstalling and whatnot :p), and then my dad got my Doom 2 for my 14th birthday. After that, I started getting into modding, starting back making simple weapon mods with a streamlined hex editor called Dehacked, and then started with level design (which I quickly gave up on due to my dad's 486 just not being able to handle it and the level editors were very user-unfriendly).I have probably beaten Doom 2 about 6 times (completely), and have finished Ultimate Doom twice (as in all 4 episodes; I've done 1 - 3 more times than I've finished Doom 2),al;though Ihave yet to finish Final Doom as a I just lose interest and the second game file...I think TNT, well, it's harder than Episode 4, and Thy Flesh Consumed is pretty rough by Doom 2standards!
Now, I work on my own weapons mod series using the EDGE sourceportbut I still play vanilla Doom every now and then (I have the whole c-l-a-s-s-ic series loaded on my workstation at school ;))and I'll eventually have a new release of my mod, but I won't advertise it just yet :P
I really liked Doom 3 as well; it really wasn't a throwback to anything other than scaring the living piss out of the players, and it did the job pretty well, and Resurrection of Evil was more than merely competent, although a bit on the short side. Unfortunately, I don't mod for it; PC's not powerful enough and there's no tools on the XBox to do it, either ;)
I started with the Elder Scrolls with the 2nd entry, Daggerfall just before I entered grade 12. I loved it. Aside from it being in first-person perspective, it had ambient sounds, a creepy soundtrack, kickass weapons, a spell system that was well beyond anything I'd ever used and a completely open world. It took me 6 months of playing 4+ hours a day to finish it, but it was worth it - despite the horrendous bugs (which are actually really mostly apparent when you're cheating...ahem).
Morrowind was the next one that I got into, and I've put more hours into it than Daggerfall, believe it or not. I've finishe dhte central main quest at least 5 times and have pretty much mastered making the uber-leet character - legitimately. And my Claymore was the best Monty Python reference ever.
I've also played Arena and beaten it, it's more of an experience than anything else; it was pretty damned good for it's time but it didn't age well.
I also had time to play about an hour of Oblivion, I really liked it's combat, but it's skill system has been over simplified; I think the series may have actually hit the lowpoint, but Oblivion is a much better lowpoint than Final Fantasy VII could ever dream of being.

Oh yes, Blood, that is fantastic game. There are two 'bastard children' games of the Build engine. Blood and Shadow Warrior. Both awesome games and my favorite Build engine games.

So Nam, WWII GI, Redneck Rampage and RR Rides Again, as well as Redneck Deer Hunting never happened, eh? :P j/k Yeah, tehy pretty much are the best of Build, those two. Shadow Warrior desperately needs a sequel, teh hell with Duke Nukem Forever.

Holy Crap! How could I have forgotten Redneck Rampage! I own both games and the expansion pack to the first one. Three bastard children then. Nam was really just a TC for Duke that somehow got a commerical release. The Nam.art files are still chock full of Duke sprites, con fileshaveDuke references as well IIRC.And I don't like WWII GI cause I could never get it to work. The guns wouldn't fire when I pressed the fire button. It's too buggy for me to even consider. I still have it (and Nam which, by the way, I actually played all the way through), but I've never even completed the first level. For me, the Dynasty Warrior series although (in my opinion) a very underated series! I own 2 through 5 extreme legends and empires up to 5. I saw that DW6 was coming out for the PS3 and that is enough to make me want to buy one! For anyone who thinks that the series is to easy and/or tedious, play the game on Hard!!! A couple of levels on 4 and 5 seem almost impossible on Normal mode without the help of a 2nd player helping you out! The ammount of time and work put into these games is over looked in so many different ways. While many improvements could be made to the franchise, all the games are extremely fun and I can't really think of many games with a higher replay value! Koei rocks, theres no doubt about it!! Strategy games, and mass hack and slash with an actual story line behind it and a different story for each countless player with a ton of unlockables? Who could ask for more?
Also I am fond of Xenosaga, Breath of Fire, Final Fantasy, and Timesplitters just to name a few....
Megaman, Megaman Legendsand the X series.
Monster Rancher Series.
I have put 100's of hours into those games, and I still play them dispite having beaten them over and over again.
For me, there are plenty of series I keep my eye on, including:
Katamari - I love the Prince. I may not own everything, but I certainly watch for everything new.
Super Mario Bros - This series has had my heart since its first installment, and the recent DS release has pushed it back up into the running.
SSX - I was disappointed with On Tour, but Tricky and 3 will keep me satisfied until another, decent edition comes out.
Phoenix Wright - Clever writing? Check. Funny characters? Check. Good storyline? Check.
Huh. Can't believe I missed this thread. Anyway, let's see. There's a few I suppose.
Baldur's Gate - I'd also include the other Bioware/Black Isle games in here too. Proper old-school RPG, with extra beard, just they way I like it. BG2 is also my favourite game of all time ever.
Final Fantasy - Needs no explanation, really.
Resident Evil - RE3 was one of the first Playstation games I owned (being a Nintendo gal I came to the PS quite late) and got sucked in pretty quick, even though I sucked at the game. Still do, actually. Like driving a tank. But although driving a tank is difficult and often clumsy... it's also awesome fun.
Castlevania - Castlevania II is a proud member of the small group of NES games I've owned since I was 3 or so. My brother didn't like it so I acquired it. I still reckon its the best, on a par with SOTN of course, but I don't own SOTN (rather I've got it on extended loan from someone who's only getting it back if they ask for it :P ). Anyway, Castlevania is my choice for jumping, whipping, whipping and jumping, and being confused as to what exactly is going on.
Star Wars - Okay, I'm cheating here. But there aren't really that many bad Star Wars games and I'm a bit of a SW geek (original trilogy anyway). Best choices include TIE Fighter, KOTOR, Jedi Knight and of course: Lego Star Wars II.
Shin Megami Tensei - To wrap it off, although I've only recently played these games, and there's only like four available in PAL-land at the moment, I've become quite addicted rather quickly to these, especially DDS.
I guess it's my turn...
-The Elder Scrolls (console titles)-Both Morrowind and Oblivion have taken literally weeks of my life. I'm not a huge RPG fan, but those two particular titles pretty much own my soul. I'm sure I'd enjoy Arena and Daggerfall as well, if I could stand PC gaming.
-Grand Theft Auto-100% completion ratings on the three big PS2 titles would constitute passion, I believe.
-Gran Turismo-I build a steering wheel setup for it...does that count?
I've beaten Arena once, JR, I'll tell ya, it's an experience I don't intend on repeating.
Daggerfall, IMO,is the best game in the series, but it gets really wonky on much faster systems.
in no particular order...
Battle Arena Toshinden
Advance Wars
House of the Dead
Time Crisis
Streets Of Rage
Ace Combat

GI really liked the third GU of .hack. I wish you'd tell us more about why you like it, it is a series that most people mis-understand greatly. I have all three of the GU on my wish list, I should just get them, I don't think they'll ever go lower than $30.
This has been a very interesting thread, it's neat to read bout game series that every one digs and why.
I'm not really passionate about any game series, not to the extent I'd create a fansite like Vix did (first post).
I guess the closest I would come to it would be Yakuza, but that's a single game. While I did buy the JP version of Y2 it became very difficult for me to play, not because I could not follow the story or actually play the game, but whenever it came to a save point or dialog choice it just got frustrating navigating. I'd slog through it, but now that I know it is coming to the US I'm probably going to wait for the english menus. But yeah, I guess loving a game so much that I'd buy the sequel for $70 and a system to play it on for $150 or whatever I paid, might be a sign of passion.
The only other closest game series would be the Shadow Hearts RPG series.
But really, in the end, not passionate like the rest of you guys.
The following was also posted here in my profile. There are several game series' that I really like, but I won't buy a system just for the newest game. There has to be more for me to make a system purchase. And even then I still don't buy every game in a series. The first series that I'll mention will be an example of this. Contra The Contra series has been my favorite for as long as I can remember. I loved the two NES games and while I didn't buy a Genesis for Hard Corps at the time, I definitely have it now. I have also played lots of Operation C on the original Game Boy and some of Contra III on the SNES. I have all of these games in my collection and I plan on buying the only decent 3D game in the series, Shattered Soldier, and the 2D DS game, Contra 4, that's currently being developed by WayForward. Prince of Persia I tried some of the 2D games years ago, but I found them too difficult and not very interesting. For awhile after the release of the three games in The Sands of Time trilogy, I used the same reasoning to stay away from those games as well. Eventually, I convinced myself to at least try out the first game and I found myself loving the game to the point that I completed it four times in a row without touching another game during that time. My best time was just under three hours from beginning to end. It goes without saying that right after that POP1 marathon I bought Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. Plus, as of last week I also now own Revelations and Rival Swords for the PSP. Burnout Before Burnout 3: Takedown I'd never heard of the Burnout series. I was basically introduced to it via the GameSpot video review. Just by the way the game looked and with how Jeff Gerstmann sounded when talking about the game, it just seemed really exciting to play. That holiday season I finally played some Burnout and I loved it! I've since bought Revenge and Dominator and I plan on buying Legends for the PSP and, of course, Paradise. Street Fighter I've been a fan of the Street Fighter series ever since I played Street Fighter II: The World Warrior in the arcade. I've played just about every SF game that's been released and sure I've had my doubts about all of the upgrades, but just about every game plays very well so I usually purchase it anyway. I currently own 11 SF titles which includes all five games made for the Super Nintendo and Genesis along with the choppy Game Boy game. On my wish list I have four other games from this series that I still would like to have. Those titles being Street Fighter Alpha (GBC), Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX (PSP), Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha (PS), and Street Fighter EX2 Plus (PS). Oh, and of course I, like many others, am ready to see what Capcom has in store for Street Fighter IV. Final Fantasy I'm in the same boat as VixDiesel when it comes to the Final Fantasy series. For the longest time I never liked role-playing games, or at least I thought that was the case. Granted some still seem overwhelming. A good example of this is Final Fantasy X's sphere grid and XII's license board. Back during the NES days I did play and complete Dragon Warrior. I remember having fun with the game, but I was never drawn much to any RPG since then. I was convinced to give the genre another shot once I watched Part IV of The Final Fantasy Retrospective on GameTrailers.com. Part IV focused on Final Fantasy VI and the story really interested me as did the main villain Kefka. I've since bought the Super NES version of FFVI and have finished it. The story was as amazing as I'd hoped it would be. Because of my new found interest in this fantastic series I've also bought the first game on the NES and the two PlayStation titles, FFIX and Origins. Possible future purchases are Final Fantasy IV Advance, Final Fantasy VI Advance, the SNES version of FFIV, Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP), Final Fantasy IV (DS), Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Honorable Mentions: Castlevania Mercenaries Ratchet & Clankhart704
Ooh...Mercenaries. If the second one is as good as the first, it'll rocket right up my list...
well i'll jump on board this one.
Final Fantasy - yeah!! I'm a freakin' sheep! BAAH! Everyone knows the REAL Squenix game is Dragon Quest... ok enough awesomeness. I've always got a soft spot in my head for FF and my ears perk up everytime i hear about yet another version of Final Fantasy (insert roman numeral here) on the (insert portable gaming system here). 99.9999% of everyone i talk to will say 7 was the best, or it was their first FF. to which i reply with a quick smack to the forehead. 7 was great, sure. eye candy is always fun. but it'll never be on my #1 spot. that holy orifice will always be occupied by FOUR (aka 2). Cecil is still my Jesus (until he goes paladin, then he gets all weepy). and no matter what anyone says, ill always consider FFX and X-2 pure garbage not deserving of the FF moniker.
Halo - holy crap, i'm just a go with the flow guy. I like halo, and not because Microsoft told me to. I have always preferred consoles to pc gaming, yet i've always loved FPS. Halo was the first FPS to really nail the controls. sure, Goldeneye was good, but there are NO good control schemes on a controller that requires you to drop your pants to be able to use every part of it (nice mental image, aint it?)
Shin Megami Tensei - ok, now im a recent convert to SMT. I've played part of Nocturne, but since i dont own it and refuse to throw $200 at a game, itll be a while before i can finish it. the super famicom titles were just awesome, and ive spent many hours with a printed translation trying to run through it. Persona 3 blew my mind.
Shadow of the Colossus/Ico - while not technically sequels, theyre connected. and these titles are about as awesome as games can get.
Katamari Damacy - oh for christ's sake. the games are awesome. quick story: i'm military, and my sister is a pot smoking vegan lesbian. she turned me on to KD. I brought it onto my ship while underway, and everyone thought i had gone gay then they watched and got so into it. eventually we were on the messdeck while steaming along, and the captain came down, saw the game looked at me like i was cracked... then started yelling "ooh! ooh!! get the car! yeah!" which is cool for a guy with 36 years on ships.
GTA - i'm kinda a sucker like that. 3 and VC were fantastic games. SA did nothing for me. never cared for the ps1 top down ones. yet i still own em all.
Metal Gear - The first Solid game on PS1 blew my brains out the back of my immature skull. the rest have not kept my attention as well, but are good games nonetheless.
God of War - visceral awesomeness.
Doom and Wolfenstein and Quake. every game in these series' gave me nonstop erections throughout my formative years up to this day, except Q3, i never cared for it.
and now for the series i cant stand!
SOCOM/Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six. sorry, not a jarhead, never will be.
Elder Scrolls. loved oblivion, hated morrowind. wife loved daggerfall though.
hitman. i liked bloodmoney, the rest felt more like dragons lair than a modern game. follow this EXACT route or die.
Half Life. never played em, simply because PC gamers were so smug about HL...then i got Orange Box. its cool.
Devil May Cry. ugh. and yet i like god of war, go figure.
Resident Evil. despite the popularity of Capcom's zombie games like RE and Dead Rising, as a Romero fan i must say that capcom has yet to realize what a zombie game should be about. and it doesnt involve puzzles!! although i played the first bit of RE4, looked cool.
Super Mario Bros. wait what? yes thats right. and for a good reason. i cant stand it because when you count up how many of the SMB games i like (smb1-3, world, super paper, new smb, mario kart) you realize that makes up 0.00001% of the mario titles out there. same goes with Zelda, i liked LTTP. thats all.
Tomb Raider. I hate every single Tomb Raider that has been released. never liked em.
Pokemon/Digimon/Naruto/Bleach/DBZ/anything by shonen jump. less about the games and more that i cant stand that crap. 97 friggin DBZ games that are all identical, but where are all the Evangelion games...that are good?
take most of this post lightly, as though it were humorous.
Castlevania. Hooked since CV1 for the NES. Played every CV game including HC. I like the new 3d games, too. Currently playing the PSP one.
Silent Hill. Hooked since the first one. Amazing series. Ok, so 4 was terrible. I still have faith though. Origins is good so far.
Shadowhearts/Koudelka. Has replaced the FF series as my favorite. Still have to play SH3 though. I heard that's a train wreck
Fear Effect series. IMO, the best action game series ever made.
FF - self-explanatory. Even though I think the series has gone downhill since FFX, it's still pretty good. I will buy any canon FF or FFT game. Big fan of FFTA right now.
Blood Omen/Legacy of Kain series - I love the wacky storylines bizarre worlds, vampires, and interesting gameplay. Because of this franchise, I'll buy anything Silicon Knights has a piece of.
Onimusha - I just really like this series. The blend of a cinematic story and button mashing is just fun.
I own all the SMT games this gen sans P3, but I wouldn't say I'm passionate about it. SMT:N is great though.
I'm really fond of most of the DnD games, but I don't know if you'd call that a series so much as a ruleset.
well im not gonna type as much as everybody else did(im not a very fast typer so it gets boring fast)
So here are my series im passoniate about
1. Final Fantasy
I have every final fantasy game there is FF7 is the best out of all the FF games cause it revolutionized gaming itself
2. Metal Gear Solid
Maybe i should have put this on top??? Well i love MGS cause the story is so unique
MGS2 brought the most uniqueness i still have no clue of whats gonna happen i cant even give good theories about the story in the MGS series its so good and its so cool The gameplay is also the best stealth gameplay ever made. This makes MGS a great memorble series
3. Tales of
Each game also has a amazing story(as you can tell i love storys cause it keeps my attention till the very end) and the gameplay is so fun too
4. Mortal Kombat
My favorite fighting series ever cause it just lets ou do the best fatalite moves ever
5. Lufia
This is a game most of you have never heard of i gues but it was a RPG back on the SNES it was great and it was also revolutionary there were only 2 games in the series(as far as i know) but those 2 games are awsome
6 Soul Calibur
These games are great cause the amount of stuff you can do and how much replayability is on it
7. Xenogears/XenoSaga
These games also have a great story that will keep you playing to the end. And it has Mech combat and foot combat so it has 2 diffrent expeirances to play by
8. Unreal Tournament
This is the series that brought me into FPS and it delivers by adding a feature to dl a bunch of user created maps and now you can download user created mods just dont dl a map with a really good sniping spot or youll get owned
9. Dynasty Warriors
I guess no one thought i would say that but i love dynasty warriors games. I buy everyone but i dont know there always something to draw me in. I even use to play romance of the 3 kingdoms games on the NES/SNES Those stratgey games werent even that good but i dont know might it be the characters that draws me in???
Well thats about it
Baldur's Gate series and every game within that formula are absolutley my favorite types of games. I don't know why, I just like the leveling up and upgrade options those types of games have. Also they all usually have good stories and solid soundtracks.sonicboom713
It is by no means the same type of game, but I think you might enjoy Gladius because of the leveling and upgrade details. It is a turn-based RTS set in a Roman Gladitorial setting.
well im not gonna type as much as everybody else did(im not a very fast typer so it gets boring fast)
So here are my series im passoniate about
many diverse games and genres
NuKkU
You just might love gaming more than anyone I've observed. That's a pretty diverse appreciation of games there.
9. Dynasty Warriors

I was going to buy it, but the fact that it takes up a whole memory card on the ps2 and i'd have to back up all of the stuff on my hard drive made it too much of a hassle. I did enjoy the demo a lot though.
oh and i cant believe i forgot about 2 of my favorite series
Ratchet and Clank
I liked this series alot cause it owns platforming and has funny dialouge and characters. Each game delivers a new experiance thats why i like the ratchet and clank series
and
the Jak and Daxter Series
This series is what really brought me into platforming games. It brought a new experiance that i have never seen before. The new Jak games are kind of like GTA now but naughty dog did the change good by still having platforiming elements in the game but also having a gta feel
The metal gear solid series and starcraft series made me feel like theres a bigger reason than playing the game. i wanted to know about the characters that protrayed and how the story unfolded
Devouring_One
As much story as they cram into the MGS series it is strange to think about how much backstory they don't reveal. I like games like that too. Few games have the luxury of a development cycle to have a full world constructed outside the realm of what you see on the screen.
I was reading about the Tomb Raider game for the PS2 (the last one that Core did) last night and the writer had gone to crazy lengths in the regard of story (he had written the story to fit over the course of the next three games). Ultimately the game was a disaster (by Core's admission) so all his story work got ignored or not used.
