Just got sniped in the last 10 seconds of a game auction that me and a couple of other ebayers were bidding on for the better part of the last 2 days. Was about to send payment as I hit refresh. Some a-hole put down 12 bids in 3 seconds. No way in hell that was human. I don't know why ebay lets that stuff go on - they may as well run a sealed bid site.

I wish amazon had more stuff, I like their auctions sooooo much better. /rant

Anyone know any other auction sites for old videogame stuff? Some sniper beat me out last week too. I'm getting sick of it. I don't mind bidding in the last 5-10 minutes of an auction, but scarmbling to bid in the last minute is patently absurd.

edit: Sniped again. Thought I countersniped the guy, too since I countered his bid with 5 seconds to go. I'm really getting sick of ebay. WTF? Do you really have to snipe a guy for a copy of Shivers 2? It's not exactly a collector's item, and has virtually no resale.

While getting sniped sucks, there are times when it's a lot of fun. I had to snipe several people for my copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga and it was actually a physical rush to do that, for stuff like that, if you don't watch the auction, you get screwed, but your right, you shouldn't have to sit there and constantly watch the auction if it's something with little value. Sorry to hear about that.

You just need to make sure that you put in a maximum bid that won't get sniped. Usually those people using third party snipers or doing it themselves basically are willing to pay more than you for an item. Their snipers ask them for a maximum amount they are willing to pay for an item and will bid it up to that amount in the last seconds of an auction. If you aren't willing to pay a certain amount for an item you just need to be patient and wait for another one that someone else is not so interested in.

My big issue is that sniping turns ebay into a half-arsed sealed bid site. They may as well just go the full 9 yards and have sealed bid auctions.

Like most people, I'm always willing to pay fifty cents to a dollar more. When someone puts down a bid in the last 3 seconds, and winds up beating you by fifty cents, it has nothing to do with them wanting to pay more, it has to do with them being filthy ebay snipers.

I like other auction houses better (where an auction is extended for a few minutes for the purposes of rebuttal bidding so as to more closely resemble a real auction and discourage sniping), but their selection isn't as good.

edit: the ironic thing is once I start a 9-5, i'll probably need to use one of these programs because of all the snipers.
