I find it tough to believe that anyone could have missed Mario Kart DS...the game has sold a BAZILLION copies and is still selling well, hence the $35 price point.
[QUOTE="falconclan"] Isn't that the truth!Yeah, some real hidden gems there gamespot.
Gamespot has officially become casual.
hart704
Those are only hidden if you search for them like Terrence & Philip search for treasure...
[QUOTE="-_-Nintendo-_-"]Mario... Kart? What is that? :Pusagi704I have no clue, d00d! Also, what is this "Grand Theft Auto?" I think I might have heard of it somewhere before. Hmm... That GTA game sounds familiar. It many very well be one of "those hidden gems of games that you may have missed the first time around." :P
Yeah, I took a look at that feature when I saw it on the Daily Updates page.
Aside from a few games like Gurumin and Elite Beat Agents, most of the games are huge hits that have already sold a bazillion copies. I think it's mostly just a list of games Best Buy wants to get rid of. Because who really missed Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Mario Kart DS the first time around?
I really don't get why Mario Kart DS is on the list anyway. Drop the price! Still, I did find the feature a bit useful. Guess I'll have to head on down to Best Buy.

at what point was it not? just look at the reviewers...
I just came here to post about that feature! Some one's been looking at my Buried Treasure Thread! At least for the concept, if not the content. Outrage!aspro73
lol, ya, Jeff and Greg are still members so they do probably check from time to time... it's too bad they both are ultra casual gamers and complete sell-outs and fanboys...

When I first saw it I immediately thought of your buried treasure thread and this union in general.
So what's this Mario Kart DS game, I've never heard of it:P

the fact that those are all widly known games makes the whole thing stupid...
I think you guys might be expecting more out of this feature than Gamespot intended. From the opening paragraph, it seems to me that they're trying to target people who may only have a handful of games in thier collection and want a quick and easy way of changing that. Most, if not all, of these games can easily be picked up at a Best Buy or Wal-Mart. Obviously most of us either already own these games or at least know of them so aiming the article at us would have been pointless. Also making the game selection too obscure would have alienated the audiance they were aiming at.
I also noticed that buried in the pile of games that are fairly mainstream there's one or two little oddities sticking out like Gurumin or Elite Beat Agents. This, to me, seems like a sly attempt on Gamespot's part to maybe expand people's gaming tastes. I mean right there, sandwiched between a GTA game and A Metal Gear game is Gurumin. Now imagine old Joe Madden-Fan looking at this list and thinking "Well maybe the game is worth playing". That seems like the real point of the article to me.
nah man... they don't change their minds for any reason. that's why they are casual gamers.waflerevolution
I honestly have no idea what that's supposed to mean.

simple. the "casuals" have it in their head (or maybe they're just like that to "fit in") that the only good games are GTA, Halo, Resident Evil, Madden, MGS and a few other M rated titles usually containing guns and/or a war... on the other end of the stick there are the casuals who feel the same about Final Fantasy, Zelda, Resident Evil, and a few other franchices or highly reviewed games...
the thing about them is that no matter what, they only like or talk about the game or game series they already like. they don't give others a chance... at least not a real chance. it's the base root for fanboys. they are the in-between medium. ost of the time the same type of person is a fanboy but it's not always the case. really though, what can you do? it's like politics, they believe what they want untill it kills their kids or makes gas cost more. and even then the change their mind rate is unbelievably low... I can also compare this to religion but I'll stop there as I think I already went too far...
Well yes, those are the big series. The ones that the majority of people on the site care about. But they cover some moreobscure stuff from time to time.
But this feature was pretty much what I expected.GameSpot's features haven't been all that great since Carrie left, but hey, EBA and Gurumin. There is some overlooked stuff among the well-knowns.
The only thing that said 'sell out' to me was the fact that every single one of these was available at Best Buy, which happens to be affiliated with GS. Why not list Phoenix Wright? That's available for $10 now at Gamestop. Or PoPoLoCrois, again, $10 at Gamestop. Well, I'll tell you why, cause those games probably aren't available at Best Buy anymore.duncanr2n
True, which reminds me I need to pick up PoPoLoCrois sometime soon.

I agree. The only thing that riles us is that instead of being called Game Collector it should have been called, "Gamespot Presents, Summertime Happy Funtime in your Hand Gamer's Gameguide!"

I disagree with EBA. it got too much media coverage and too many people know it.

see, there wouldn't be an issue had they called it that... or anything else...

I agree; the game isn't actually "niche." Well, it is, because it's this fully-insane Japanese rythym game thing, but a lot of positive reviews from websites and magazines pushed it out into the open.ya... and it was over-americanized by aweful music...

Look at GameSpot's Readers' Choice Awards for 2006. Guitar Hero II beats Elite Beat Agents 14,778 votes to 3,988 votes and is again beat out by New Super Mario Bros. and Metroid Prime Hunters. Despite the media coverage and positive reviews, people just didn't care.

that's because Psychonaughts looked "kiddy" and most casual gamers don't play games that look "kiddy"
