reviews and reviewers can be bought... plus are automatically bias and are usually written by fanboys or other non-objective people. and yetthey still control the masses :(

I'm affraid my brain cannot adaquetely quantify one year's set of games to another's. I'm not saying its not a fair comparison to make, I'm just saying I'm not that smart.

I don't tend to shop based on stuff like Metacritic etc,

There are a few reviewers who have shown over the years that they like what I like, and in some rare cases those reviews can sway me to at least look at a game that I originally had little interest in (Dragon Age Origin for example)

As for the question at hand, how did 2009 stack up to 2008.

I know on paper, I bought a ton of games this year and that my PS3 purchases were up. The problem was aside from some assorted stuff for Wii (Punch out, and the like) the Wii didn't tickle my fancy and 360 had an odd year, one I would consider at least for me to be among its worst since 2006.

This year started for me in February with Street Fighter and Killzone 2, then there just seemed to be a long gap before inFamous which was pretty good (a cooler Crackdown in my opinion) then I found myself knee deep in my backlog pile for lack of new great games till Batman: AA which was cool but not on the level of past August releases (Bioshock comes to mind?) then we rolled into the October/November madness which seem to be great if you are a shooter fan or a racing sim fan but aside from Borderlands and Dragon Age sort of left me dry.

2009 for me was the year of games I can't wait to drop to 19.99.

I will kinda agree with GTA, it was a very well polished game, and it has so much to do, but it just seemed so boring compared to its younger siblings of last gen.

But I love me some MGS series. I hated how they explained some things in MGS4, but overall I was very happy with the ending. But I guess we can agree to disagree, MGS seems to me like a "either you love it or hate it" kinda series.

I meant all togeather. not specific ones.

I do not like stealth-based things. I do not like (non-arcady) mindless violence.
