Okay fellow collectors, in your opinion what are the rarest games for the big three consoles of the last generation? I'm not talking most collectible, or the games in the least people's collections, I'm talking rare. The kind of game that got a low production run, or was a blockbuster rental exclusive, or was released by accident, only in Arkansas for 3 days before Konami found out about it.

I'm not 100% sure... maybe Volvo Drive For Life for xbox? maybe Max IM for PS2? maybe Mario DDR for the cube?

I'm honestly not even 50% sure...

I'm not sure how you'd even go about finding it used... it was definitively low production and mostly baught by the holiday gift buying grandparents and kiddos looking to dance hard... so finding one in any kind of good shape is already a slim chance...

defineitely obscure games. but GK and FN:UP are more on the less common due to obscurity side, futurama is most rare on the PS2... it is rumored to be because of low producion numbers... I've never been able to conferm or deny it so... ya, it's definitely up there...

still, I checked. Max IM is in 4 peoples collections. 1 of them is me. it's only on 2 wishlists and 4 tracking... I am now sure it's the winner for PS2.

I definitely can't say what the rarest is for any system, but I have a hunch that Art of Fighting Anthology is pretty rare. I only happened upon one copy when I least expected it about 3-4 weeks ago. When I was actually trying to track it down right when it came out, nobody had it in anywhere.

PS2:

Woody Woodpecker: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park is pretty rare, so is that Cubix game and it seems that Robot Alchemic Drive is semi-rare as well. I've heard anecdotal evidence that Forever Kingdom was limited to 5000 copies. Music Maker Deluxe (not regular Music Maker) is rare. There are several contenders, but Max IM might take the cake, being that it was a complete unknown to me 5 minute ago. REZ, Disgaea, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Gitaroo Man are not very rare.

GC: Red Card 2003 is pretty rare, but Cubivore is not, don't be fooled. Phantasy Star Episode I & II Plus is much rarer than the regular version.

Xbox: Classified: Sentinel Crisis, Xyandie, Warpath, and Zapper seem tough to find. I only have the first three.

Volvo: Drive for Life is freely available from dealerships on eBay, but that won't last.

All 3: The Egg Mania games from Kemco are at least semi-rare. I've only seen the PS2 version.

lol eggmania... that games a hoot... I have the xbox version...

Max IM came with the initial PS2 Keyboard bundles, very limited release, it was supposed to get a wide release but Datel got pooped on and never released it fullbscale in the US... if not for Everquest, I wouldn't have even got it... or known about it...

I really want the WW game , I love 80's cartoons... and the games they inspired... I have RAD...

I saw Clazzified at several local stores that don't specialise in games... (supermarkets, CVS, walmart and a few more... is it worth $11)

Rez here is quite rare becasueit was recalled for some reason and never re-released. Monopoly party for the Xbox is quite hard to find (I have never came across a copy here) But the PS2 version is dirt common. Zapper is quite common here too.

Zoo "Puzzle" for the PS2 is quite hard to find. (might be a europe exclusive)

I've heard Ikaruga for GCN is rare, but I don't know if that's true. People also pay high prices for the Zelda Collector Edition, but it doesn't seem too uncommon to me.

ikaruga is hart to find and demands a high price I'm not sure how rare it truely is... the LOZ CE is esentially a limited release fanboy bait... even if there were lots more copies out there it'd still bring in money... I sold my first copy of the game for $60 and a copy of Call of Duty 2. then I went and baught a used copy for $32 and made a near 50% profit :)

Nothing too rare, so we will call it less-than-common games:

PS2 - Ico, Rez

GC-Ikaruga, Eternal Darkness

Xbox- Xyanide

The Kingdom Under Fire and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games are also seemingly hard to find, and fetch nice prices off EBay (I saw a copy of BGDA2 going for over $80 new and sealed, over $50 for used, both on XBox).

I'd still say Ikaruga for GCN for rarity, based on the demand. If only 10 copies of a game are made, but it's absolute crap & always on the market... is it really all that rare?

And this is easy, IMO...

PS2 & XBox: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (can be found, but always pricey & condition suspect)

GCN: Ikaruga

Just based on what I've been looking around for I'd say that Digital Devil Saga 1 and Nocture (both in the Shin Megami Tensai series) are pretty rare for the PS2. Another that I rarely see on the Xbox is the Fairly Oddparents Breakin' Da Rules game. I see it all the time on the PS2 and GCbut not on Xbox.

I'd have to say Cubivore for the GC, Mr. Mosquito for the PS2, possibly Frequency, and I'm in no way certain about this but the xbox version of Pitfall: The Lost Expedition seems to be hard to find for some odd reason. I've been looking on ebay and I've only seen one copy of the xbox version of Pitfall up for auction in the past five days. Of course, it could just be that its a crappy game that there's no demand for (which I'm inclined to believe seeing as how I could have sworn it was a very big release) but the fact that there's barely any auctions for it on ebay strikes me as odd seeing as how even some of the worst, most generic games still appear in droves.

alright people; apparently I need to re-state this again. Cubivore and Ikaruga are not the most rare Gamecube games. Cubivore got re-released and Ikaruga is just really popular. NCAA2k3 is actually more rare then both of them. Go Go Hypergrind is also more rare then them. a year ago I'd say Ravemaster as the most rare but it got a quiet re-release so it's not rare anymore but
it's still somewhat uncommon...

So wouldn't the original versions of Cubivore and Ravemaster still be rare, or were their re-releases exact copies of the original with no way to tell the two apart?

Much like Resident Evil 2 and RE3 on the gamecube, Rhapsody, Breath of Fire IV and Persona 2 on the PS1 and Rez on the PS2 all the games were re-released withoput any noticeable differences. they were EXACT reprints.

That's a real problem I have with collecting games versus books -- there is usually no way to tell a first run from any subsequent run.

How about the PS2 version of MGS 2: Substance? I can find the Xbox version pretty easily and cheaply, but I want the PS2 version and haven't seen it in a significant amount of time. Should it make the list?

Yeah, Rave Master doesn't seem to be rare any more. An EB Games that I recently visited had it available new, and there were two used copies there too. Uncommon? Maybe.

Yeah, same in Australia too, it's probably just limited to the US. But Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is quite uncommon if not boader line rare here in Australia, both Xbox and PS2.

Culdcept for PS2...30,000 copies printed for N.America. Seems like a small run in my mind. Ico is very tough to find, cannot spot this game anywhere...it is like the Bigfoot of the game world.

Really? I can't go into a pre-owned section of a game store without coming across three or four copies of the re-release of Ico, and I see the original version around too, not as often but it's there.

Of course, that's over here in PAL-land where everything is backwards: SMT Lucifer's Call/Nocturne is quite freely available in pre-owned 4 for £20 offers in Gamestations across the land... yet I can't even lay my hands on a decent copy of FF6 for GBA

Yep, FF6 for the GBA is quite a hard one to find, I remember picking up a new copy in EB and setting it back down on the shelf becasue I already have the PS1 version. That was a mistake :P

[QUOTE="Joystick_n_hand"]Ico is very tough to find, cannot spot this game anywhere...it is like the Bigfoot of the game world.-_-Nintendo-_-

I've only ever seen one copy of ICO used (other than the one I picked up). Culdcept I've seen only once and it was a totally chewed up copy (which is why I elected not to buy). And Nocturne I've only seen once as well (and I did buy it)

One that no one's mentioned is SkyGunner. The copy I own is the only copy I've ever seen anywhere, it's not expensive or anything, you should be able to get it used online for $10 or so but it just seems pretty rare.

I don't see Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakesvery often either. But maybe that's just me.
