Just wondering if I am the only one that stuffs my face while gaming....or any other habits...

For me its usually a glass of water, like the 100 oz glasses, otherwise a Pop, usually Sundrop, and the rare occasion Kool-Aid

I don't eat to much since it gets kind of hard, but when I do its usually junk food. When I was in high school, I remember playing Final Fantasy 8 and 9 with a 5 pound bag of tootsie rolls, thats like 780 pieces. Id take that down in less then a week and didnt even realize it. Needless to say, i weighed 150 pounds and was 6'4 so it didnt hurt me.

Usually if I am in a room by myself, I will have music on. If i am playing a console or PC, i throw my PSP on internet radio and just jam

And at no times do I ever game naked, thats just ewww

Always keep a nightlight on when playing Resident Evil or Silent Hill - hey its scary?

And always, always get one more level then your goal before you go to sleep.

Hmm seems like it, what about you guys?

I tend to have a glass of water nearby at all times and never food. Anything you need to eat either will make you have to pause a million times or causes gross finger, which I don't want on my controllers. And depending on the room I'm gaming in I am...

Living room- Sitting on the couch

Bedroom- Laying on my stomach on the bed

Gameroom- In one of my video rockers

Since I'm limited to handhelds right now I sit on the porch, sit on a train, sit in the living room, sit in my cats quarantine cell -- basically just sit and play the game and nothing else.

When I console game I usually drink, not a lot, I'll take a gulp when there is a break in the action.

I find it hard to eat and play at the same time. Unless I'm playing Dragon Quest VIII. Then I can play the game with my left hand while eating with my right. I wish more RPGs let me play them with one hand. :)

I usually have a movie or TV on my laptop and game while watching passively. I occasionally drink Coke, but seldom eat while gaming. I usually use eating as an excuse to take a break.

WTF For real?!?

Yup. Not something I've been doing for terribly long, but it's probably what I'll be doing for a while. I started about a week and a half ago and have already lost about 5 pounds. I'm hoping to loose about 40 more. I ride for about 45 minutes to an hour in the evenings after the kids go to bed. I've been playing Etrian Odyssey while exercising, but the bike is also in front of a TV with my PS2 so I have that option as well. I've found that gaming really makes the time fly by.

I tend to do nothing but play the game when I play a game. The music I listen to comes from the game and I sit on the couch unless it's Wii or I'm really into a boss fight, etc. I used to have a smaller TV that I kept on a stand at chest level and I stood up all the time while playing, but my current TV is too large for that. I do tend to curse loudly and intermittently at the screen, if the design or gameplay is poor or I am getting spanked at the game, etc. Sometimes I keep a drink handy, but not food.

That's pretty much exactly what I was going to say gmsniper, except I'll elaborate a bit because since I have several residences I have several different setups.

At school, I have basically no choice but to game on my bed, which is the top bunk of a bunk bed. It can be uncomfortable, so I sometimes grab pillows and such to bolster myself and frequently change positions on the bed. The reason I have no choice for this is that my TV is a cheap LED widescreen TV that sits at a high point on my desk, so sitting at the desk and playing it is out of the question due to the fact that looking at the TV from an angle just doesn't work. I generally have nothing at my disposal except occasionally a bag of Frosted Mini Wheats, and an internet walkthrough if I deem it necessary.

At home, I have a much more forgiving setup. I can sit basically anywhere I want in my room, so I sometimes sit at the computer, but usually I'll just sit on the couch or on the carpet right in front of it. Often when the game becomes really intense, I'll get up and start almost miming what my characters are doing in game. Very occasionally, I'll eat meals while playing (this used to be really common for me, but has since become exceedingly rare), but other than that I'll never have food unless it's like Goldfish. When I play a game like an RPG or something of the like, I refuse to have music or any other form of distraction playing, as I feel that it's essential to be immersed in the experience. However, I'm more forgiving when it comes to, say, a fighting game.

I tried the exercise bike thing once...it didn't work for me. I found myself stopped five minutes later sitting on a very uncomfortable seat. I tend to sit stock still in my recliner, not moving except for the occasional grab of my soda. I don't even move when I play driving games (you know how some people lean into turns and stuff). I used to sit on the floor, but I've had enough leg and hip injuries in my day that it becomes a painful experience after about three minutes.

Drink excessive amounts of coffee. But that's nothing new. I drink excessive amounts of coffee no matter what I'm doing. I always have a bottle or two of water handy too. I rarely eat when playing... too distracting and too many chances to get icky messes all over the controller/keyboard.

As for other stuff, I don't do an awful lot when gaming. I tend to be pretty immersed in the on-screen action after all. But depending on the game I'll have music playing (mainly for racing games or the more mindless variety of shooter, but only if I don't like the game music). And I usually end serving as a throne for the cat whenever I sit down for more than 30 seconds...

I just have a drink next to me, it is all I need really, I don't put food next to me as I believe I would keep eating more and more unnecessarily. I also have recently been plugging headphones into my tv when I play as my tv sound isn't the best.

I sit naked in a white bean bag chair eating bean dip and cheetos..... :P No, not really, I usually play sitting on my couch with about 3 bottles of Aquafina sitting within my reach. I also have games hooked up im my bed room, where I usually just lay down and do the same. As far as eating while playing, while the hell not, I still own most on-line, or the CPU at just about any game, plus I don't eat food that gets my controllers or other peripherals nasty! If I am on my CPU, I always have my TV on with either Da DaDa Da Dada (Sportcenter.... oh yeah!) or poker, and sometimes a movie. The only game I play on my CPU is on-line poker, so when it gets slow and boring, I watch updates on the upcoming baseball season!!!! Go Cubbies... :D

I have gained a lot of weight since being retired from the Marine Corps, so I like the exercise bike idea. Maybe I'll give it a try! My wife just got a gym membership to get back into shape after having our two boys in one year, so I'm sure if I see an improvement I will feel guilty and start to exercise privately without her knowing in our house while she is gone! Thanks Ink...

I also used to stand while playing, not sure why I stopped (about a year ago). One thing I still do which may be considered odd is that, when playing FPS games, I usually sit on an ottoman about 2 feet away from the TV. Also, invariably a circus of cats will come and sit by or on me during any given gaming session.

Most of the time, I am either just gaming or have a glass of water with me. I will occasionally eat chips when I'm playing a game, but I eat with one hand and play with the other so as not to get the controller dirty. It's rather cumbersome to do so I only do it when I'm playing a game that doesn't require much reaction time, such as a turn-based RPG.

I can't say I fancy the idea of standing up to game. I always sit crosslegged when I'm playing, whether I'm in a chair or on the floor or on my bed. Or in a weird position where I'm sort of knelt with my legs bent back and one to each side. I can stay like that for hours, a lot of people seem to complain about hip and knee pain after a while... I'm just bendy :P

I sit in my captain's chair while I game. I rarely eat while I game, if I'm that hungry, I'll stop the game and watch TV or a movie while I eat. I do usually keep a drink handy. If I do munch while I play, it's always something that isn't messy, and doesn't require unwrapping to eat. I never listen to anything but the actual game audio. Good or bad, I want to experience the game as it supposed to sound. Occasionally I will stand, but that is rare.

Ok, Wii games, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, DDR...these games are easier to play while standing. But the traditional types where you just have a controller in your hand and no motion sensing, then standing is, for most of us, an odd concept. I defy anyone to play through Oblivion standing the entire time.

Wait...gmsnpr has finished Oblivion...

i sit on the couch.

i drink a lot of coffee (like 2 pots a day) so either that or water.

i dont like to eat or snack while gaming due to the controller grease.

if its a mindless game (fighting, puzzle) or a game ive played, Jen will read to me (usually one of her choosing)

when i smoked cigarettes id have a steady stream of smoke billowing forth, but as i've given them up in favor of a pipe, youd now see me with a Hungarian Oom Paul most likely dangling from my mouth, a plume of bluish grey smoke flowing freely from most of my facial openings.

i also enjoy having a good conversation going on XBL if at all possible.

Hehe. I like that game.

Standing is actually better for your back, unless you sit posture perfect all the time which let's face it: nobody does unless you have to sit in one of those correctional chairs (torture devices) they have at primary school. But I don't think I could stand and play games... even for light-gun games, the TV is too low for that anyway.

I like to feel like Rambo, though, so I just stand and shoot. Then, when nobody's on screen, I point my Wii-mote at the ceiling and just hold down the B button (Zapper) while screaming :P.

When I game I like it to be dark, and I have my door closed so no one intrupts, the only light is the light from the TV. I always have a big bottle of water to my side and ocassionally a walkthrough (Ocarina of Time)

It really depends on the game,

If we are talking something online-esk. or something generally point and shoot I will normally sit in my gaming chair feet on an ottoman, if anything I keep a one litre nalgene filled with ice water off to the side that I can reach for between levels/matches

RPG's I sit on the sofa, I have no idea why but I do. I think the concept of being able to lay back and watch long cut scenes may play into it, but interestingly enough I did not use the sofa for the Metal Gear series, odd. In terms of stuff around me, my trusty nalgene is within reach and I find a bag of garlic and herb baked pita tricks are a new ally in the RPG battle, they are dry so no oils or grossness on my controller, and I leave my laptop on the floor usually with a walkthrough bookmarked just in case.

What is really odd, is when I play NES or SNES games or for that matter anything prior to Saturn.

I sit on the floor, back against the sofa. Its odd because its not anything I plan it just happens. Perhaps because when those consoles were new my rumpus room was simply a converted bedroom in my parents basement when I was living at home prior to University, as such I had a loveseat in the middle of the room, and normally sat on the floor to game.

Strange, I think I am a psychology textbook all to myself.

I'm just guessing, but prehaps when you first owned the NES and SNES you were a young child, and most young children play games on the florr, mabey you just felt the need to do so for nostalgas sake?

i only have beer or water with me, and that doesn't happen everytime.

before my homies' stupied dogchewed off my glasses, i used to lie down while playing games unless i get pissed off or the game gets serious, then i sit up.

but now that i don't have a smaller tv with no glasses, i'm usually 2ft away from the tv by the foot of my bed. i know its bad, but when i sit any farther, i can't seem to see anything.

and no music...its annoying to me personally because it takes a lot of the immersion out when i'm listening to rap while playing an rpg. video game music keeps me locked into the game.

I sometimes watch South Park, Family Guy, Father Ted or Garth Marenghi's Darkplace while not in cutscenes. You can never watch too much Father Ted...

Other than that, Dr. Pepper or Guiness/Murphys... Some kind off food, usually junk food. A lot of it. I tell myself it's okay cuz I only game at weekends and spend the week in the gym anyway, so yeah, Beer, crap food and constant game binging couple days a week isn't unhealthy ;) Bah, fresh air is overrated anyways.

I usually get one of the cat's sleeping on me too because they know I'm too in the game to move them, thus I always get 'happy cat dribble' from my one cat Billy Zane who tends to salivate when he's happy. But I probably didn't have to mention that, oh well whatever shuts their meowing up while I'm killing zombies or American speaking Russian terrorists... :D

I never stand while gaming, just sit crosslegged, or kneeling if I'm playing House of the Dead or Vampire Night (

In a typical gaming session I normally shampoo my hair, make some salad, talk on the phone, fight organized crime....all the while playing DDR.

Yep. I'm a multitasker. *wink*

Irony is awesome and all, but so are real answers that don't waste your time to write or our time to read. Maybe you should shoot for that, unless you're a crime-fighting DDR enthusiast, of course. If you are, I apologize.

Aww lighten up. I'm just having a little fun with this topic. I think that's far better than being dull and boring.

Nothing wrong with having a little fun. Just check in with the real world once in a while... :P
