Here's an interesting topic I thought of. Since next week I'll be on vacation, I'd thought, do you CCUers still hunt for games while on vacation? Do you have any favorite spots to buy games in past places that you've visited?

As for myself, I do actually. See, I vacation often in Chincoteague Island, VA, (which I'm going to this time) and I have 4 spots I got to to look for games. :p One is the Wal mart, just over the border, which is a super Wal-mart, that often has some nice stuff, there's the major Flea market open a few miles down the road, that sells some nice stuff, a place that sells some old collectibles for real cheap a mile away from the Island, and a video store that sells some stuff occasionally, on the Island. I got it all planned out. :P 8) This will be my first trip to the Island, in two years. My first vacation in two years too.

If anything, I step it up on vacation and business trips--'cuz I'm somewhere where I haven't already bought everything.

Since 1995 I have taken one vacation, and it was to a PAL country :(  Now that gmsnpr has turned me onto pawn stores though I now plan to hit every pawn store I see on the next long weekend trip.

I haven't taken a vacation in many many years... I think last time I did was around the mid-90's, N64 and PS1 weren't out yet and I remember picking up a few games at a local rental store...

Well I'm currently in Sweden. Since I'm not a a big city I haven't found anything. There's a EB Games but the prices are way too high.

In cities like Paris though it's possible to find both NTSC and PAL games for a good price.

So yes, even on vacation I still try to look for that.

My vacations have primarily become Anime conventions. They usually have some space set aside for merchants. I will always set aside some time to see if anyone has anything worthwhile. After all, hunting for video games is fun and isn't the point of a vacation to enjoy yourself?

oh my yes...

I took a trip to Texas to visit my family a couple years ago, and they had a store there at the time with TONS of carts...I had trouble getting back on my plane to head home because my carryon was full of cartridges. :)  ahhhh....I remember getting Shadowrun (SNES), Secret of Evermore (SNES) 7th Saga (SNES) and many many more....average price was $2-5 and I think I spent about $200 ...consequently I think thats where the bulk of my SNES cart only collection came from :)

I think it must have been a going out of business sale or similar though, because the next time I went back they werent there. :(

It's the best time to look for games, if you have already cleaned out your local shops you can go away and find brand new shops to raid :D

As long as I find games that will play on systems I already own, I'll definitely pick them up. I run into a problem because I end up spending way too much money. I rationalize it by saying I wouldn't be able to find this stuff anywhere else. My girlfriend just went to the Nintendo World Store in NYC and picked up a bunch of collectible stuff for me (a Kirby stuffed animal, a Wii-mote keychain, and small Mario & Yoshi statues). But I think it would be dangerous for my checkbook if I were to walk into that store. I do have to go back, though, because the statues she bought were perfect for wedding cake toppers, and I need to get the Princess Peach one. Gotta plan ahead :)

There was also one time while I was on vacation with my family in the Bahamas a few years ago where I saved some random tourist $250. he was interested in buying his son a PSP, but the sleezy store clerk was trying to tell him that the European white PSP could play American UMD movies. I corrected him and let him know that the games weren't region-specific, but the movies are. I should get a medal.

I haven't been on a proper vacation in a long time (mostly because we have a 7 month old baby and a 2 year old toddler), but I try to keep a look out for games anywhere I go.

However, I did recently go back to Tallahassee on a business trip and did pretty good for myself. I found the following OOP games there which I had been wanting for a while:

Castle Shikigami 2
Ghosthunter
Deep Labyrinth
Ninja Five-O
Mobile Light Force
Car Battler Joe

(OK, so Deep Labyrinth may not be OOP yet, but I think the others probably are.)

Anyway, I think Tallahassee must be a good location for used games as it is a college town.  FSU, FAMU and Leon County Community are all located there and I bet you get a lot of college kids trading in their old games for beer money.  :P

I'm glad I'll be moving back soon.

I always check out the local flea markets & stores when on vacation. Last vacation to WY was so far out in to nowhere that I only got to check out one store in the mall. Did find something there. Yeah!!

My past few vacations have either been cruises or to Europe. Obviously I didn't try to buy games on the open seas (maybe could have found some "pirated games" --- oh that was a baaad joke). And only one of our trips to Europe were we in an area where they have game/movie stores, and other than the fact that they were PAL, they were obsurdly priced. I saw Giest for the GC for I think it was 60euro - this was like five months ago...
