Eddie Jordan Frustrated with FIA Selection Process
  • Written by: RACER staff
  • London, UK – 5/19/2006

Former Jordan Grand Prix owner Eddie Jordan has criticized the FIA's selection process that ended up granting to David Richards' Prodrive operation the sole remaining spot in the 2008 Formula 1 grid.

Eleven squads, including Jordan himself, submitted applications in the last week of March. Last month, the FIA announced that Prodrive had been granted the 12th slot in the sport's paddock, joining the 11 existing teams.

"I entered the '08 process because I believe that, with controlled costs and level playing field, we could return to our heyday," Jordan wrote in his column in F1 Racing magazine, referring to the new-for-'08 cost-saving rules put forth by the FIA.

"But I was turned down: fair enough, I've had my chance and others deserve theirs. But I'm sure many applicants were disappointed not to know what the selection criteria were. In the past if you wanted to build and race a car you could turn up and try pre-qualifying. If they don't even know the criteria, how will young teams like Carlin ever get their chance?"

In the same issue, the magazine also revealed the identity of the 11 new applicants that fought for the 12th entry. Besides Prodrive and Jordan, plus the publicly admitted entries from Japanese group Direxiv, Paul Stoddart's Minardi, Trevor Carlin's AMT Promotions and Alfonso de Orleans' BCN Competicion, the five other outfits were Baram F1 (headed by ex-BAR boss Craig Pollock), ALK Group, North Western, Filmty Interactive and Luxrace Tech.

Wanna know the FIA's selection criteria:
1. The team that will pay the most.
2. The team that will use Bridgestone tyres.
3. The team that will not be a serious threat on the Ferrari.

J/k of course... :P

But yeah, teams should have the right to know the selection criteria, otherwise how will they prepare themselves?

Well I haven't followed the whole EJ thing, but if he wants back in F1 so bad, why did he sell Jordan in the first place? Did he make a big profit off the sale and wants to put the money into something new? Does he expect to get manufacturer backing?

I would sincerely hope that commercial car manufacturers be involve in F1 for the sake of R&D... They do have a bigger budget but sometimes won't do it because they understand their inferior machinery.  I mean what is Super Auguri?  Its just the name of the Japanese fellow with a super in front of it.....  I am glad that Toyota and Honda... relative new comers in the automotive world have joined F1... perhaps more can follow suit.

That is correct. Eddie Jordan, along with the others mentioned in the last paragraph, all put in applications to fill the last grid spot on the F1 grid for 2008. All this has to stem from that decision that he was not able to get back into the sport.

As F1 is getting more like Football (Soccer for you americans) every year. I reckon it is only a matter of time before There is an F1 "B" League not GP2 but still a lower division and The bottom team of F1 "A" will get relagated to F1 "B" and the winner of the "B" league will get promoted to league "A"

Impossible is nothing!
