As you are probably all aware right now, the breakaway of FOTA from Formula One has been announced. This means, as a result, the F1PU can no longer be called just that, given we will now have to cover two championships.

Just a few minutes ago, I provided the two options on the updates and feedback thread in which the union can go, and they are as follows:

1. F1GPSPU: Not much would change. I will remain leader and all officers will remain, only changed on the dependency of activity or inactivity. I would be asking officers though to be working on one side of each category (three working on updating the union in regards to F1, three officers working on updating the union in regards to GPS).

2. F1PU & GPSPU as two separate unions: I will lead both Unions; however I will take a more relaxed approach in regards to this role (see Jackov as an example with World Wrestling Everything) - this means tasks that I'm accustomed to (such as GP topics and Prediction Scores) will still be done by me, however news reports will be the officers duties to carry out rather than my own anymore. Will look to have 4-6 Officers for both Unions, which do not necessarily have to be the same people for both - therefore current members may be in line for a promotion.Redders1989

Basically, I want to know what option you want (One or Two), and why. From there, whichever option has the most votes will be the direction the union goes in, and appropriate steps will be taken from there.

Voting closes at midnight BST on Friday, 26th June.

OPTION 1: 12 Votes
OPTION 2: 0 Votes

If there is a substantial breakaway, then option one would be most suitable, because I can't imagine F1 would have much of a following. F1 should still be covered, but if the weight of teams is with the new series, then the new series would become our prime focus, naturally. I don't think there would be significant interest in a series consisting of Williams, Force India, Campos, USF1 and Manor, plus most of the current rejected teams.

My vote is for option one. F1 wont be a substantial enough sport for a whole union; much like we don't have a GP2 union. I'd happily support in posting news and continue with session times for both sports.

If the breakaway consist of just a few teams, then F1 coverage would remain dominant, and the situation would be reversed. I just can't see both series running alongside each other in their full glory.

I think it would be best to keep one union but cover both formulae (or whatever a potential breakaway is called).

As you say there aren't a great deal of regular posters as it is, and splitting into two unions would only reduce the number posting on each. I've been on a few union boards here that die out through lack of posting and it would be sad to see that happen.

I wouldn't mind running a second union, I'm not here an awful lot, but I try my best to show my face and I keep the UK board going. Having just one union is probably for the best though, just have a couple more officers I guess.

I think option 1 is the best. I'd rather have all both series in one union rather than 2 unions

Firstly may i just say well done to redders from seeing this eventuality and deciding to act now as this could, as you said, separate the union.

My opinion is to see how it pans out for the mean time and try to cater to both at least until both championships get underway so that we can gauge how successful they are and if one appears to be more successful than the other then it maybe worth focusing on that one.

I would avoid setting up two unions because of the reasons mentioned above about the lack of numbers, but if the situation did arise that some people did want set up a separate union for one of the series then i think it should be up to them as i think it is unfair to increase your work load, plus it would allow them to run them in a different way than may suite there series better, although in this case i think that there should still be a connection between the unions as this would allow for new ideas to be shared and hopefully both unions would grow as a result.

So I'm taking it ANT and Racky are for option one? I've put down as that anyway, so if I'm wrong please do correct me.

Asfor Racky's comment for my increased work load regarding option 2, as I stated in the top post I would actually relax my duties - I.E. leave the news stories to officers, and instead only focus on general maintenance and my usual tasks of GP, Caption This! and Predictions threads. Effectively despite running two unions it would mean I'd be doing less, given the amount of news stories I usually post here currently (which was something I wanted to avoid this year to give the officers more power, so to speak, but alas I'm a tad too quick with it all  ).

As it is, there's a lot of love for option one right now, which seems the more sensible idea for the time being because - as you stated Racky - better to wait out to see if one gets preferential treatment over the other.

Make that 7-0 for Option 1, for reasons already listed.

It is. You can create your own and instantly become leader, but you have to inherit leadership of any other unions. I haven't created my own union yet, and as we know I inherited the lead of this one from Aloushi. Like I say, to make sure my workload isn't affected, I'd lower my level of duties but, as things are going right now, don't think we'll be heading that way.

I think option 1 would be better for many reasons already noted. Although it is a shame we can't file posts separately in one union b/c it might be a bit of work to keep the topics organized.

If we ever got Unions V2, this whole thing would've been a lot more easier.

How about an option 3 - we change the name to include the new series but have the union look at both still. I mean I would watch both so would like a union that looks at both.

Also yeah bring Unions 2, its looking unlikely they will ever get updated and thats sad as I am willing to venture a lot of users here are using unions and we need the updated stuff. Realistically though I doubt it will happen on cost to benefit ratio.
