2007 Italian GP

Welcome to the 2007 Turkish GP thread, where you can discuss anything to do with this weekend's race. cjek will update the thread with the latest times when they happen.

RANDOM FACT

If Monza had held the Italian GP in 1980, it would be the only circuit in the World to have hosted a GP in every Formula 1 season.

POINTS TO DISCUSS

  1. Last year, Robert Kubica scored his first F1 Podium in only his 3rd GP - One year on, how do you think his progress has been?
  2. As it stands, none of the 4 challenging for the World Title have ever won at Monza in F1 - Who has the best chance out of the four to end their winless drought at Monza (said albeit this is Lewis' first F1 race here)?
  3. McLaren in the recent Monza test have topped the timesheets on every day - will they upset the Tifosi this weekend?
  4. Spyker have claimed that they can jump into the midfield with their new B-Spec car - is this a realistic target considering how tight the midfield actually is at the moment?

I'd love to see Spyker actually do something other than have one driver who is fairly good but is limited by a slow car, and another who would probably struggle to keep up with the safety car. Yamamoto needs to up his game a bit, and the team need to work hard to catch up with Torro Rosso and Honda (lol). Money is also a problem for the team, and this is probably the main reason they are where they are.

Raikkonen had a big crash in this morning's practice session:

The car literally speared towards the barrier under braking, but Raikkonen escaped unharmed, although slightly dazed.

Here are the results of the session:

Good Lord, that looks bad, hopefully he's fine for Quali. It just shows yet again how good the safety developments of Formula 1 really are nowadays.

Ferrari would want to have something up their sleeve, otherwise I can see McLaren romping away with a 1-2 finish.

Welcome back :D Can I have my pictures for my Birthday now?

And bar any problems, looks like the Tifosi won't be celebrating a Ferrari win. Nice to see Honda looking fairly competetive this weekend :D and as for Fisi being angry with Barrichello, it's pointless, you can't just stay on the gravel just whilst someone pasees, it wasn't intentional, so no way can RB be punished. I do think RB's comment back was a tad cheeky though, saying he's experienced enough just to "Shut up"

one sided race, mclaren and alonso looked strong throughout the race weekend, i dont know what happened to massa and was kimi sleeping when he let hamilton pass. I thought kimi would have taken p2 but after a lap or so hamilton produced a great move

Kimi had neck pain throughout the entire race after the crash which made it hard for him to keep his head up. Also with the major width of the wing mirrors on the Ferrari, it's actually harder to see behind (on top of the neck problems then it's near impossible). Was a pretty good move on Hamilton's behalf, but there was no threat at all to Alonso, he was gonna win that one easily. Still no news on officially what happened to Massa, but no suprises if it's some sort of suspension failure.

yeah i felt sorry for Massa he was looking like a strong contender for the title race but now it looks very hard for him now, Ferrari should now make kimi their lead driver IMO

I missed the race; had tons of work! :S
But it was a slap in the face for the Ferrari to have the McLaren beating them in their homerace. Alonso must be really satisfied now.

Suprised no1 mentioned the Rosberg-Button battle, seeing as it was one of the very few moments in the race that gave us a glimpse as to what F1 should be like every lap, not every couple of races.

other than that and the other only pass of the gp, ther isnt much else to mention :? i mean we got the usual: heidfeld 4th, kubica screwed by his strategy, the standard "cmon fisi push, your quicker than him!", steve ryder and james allen forgetting about the other 21 drivers, jean todts "we'll bounce back" comment and not forgetting a during-race interview with dc courtesy of louis goodman (i think anyway lol)
