Fantastic!  I always thought it was stupid how the last game to come out featured the 2006 liveries and driver lineups, and that since then we've had two great seasons and two new champions, sucking new fans into the sport, and no new game to appease the fans!

I can't wait to see what they can do with current gen technology now that we're a couple of years into it!  I'd like to see a career mode where you are put in a back end team (like Force India), and are given targetiven a points target over the course of the season.  If you meet target, or exceed it, you could be awarded with test drives for bigger teams, in which if you achieve a higher than a certain average lap time, you get the drive!

I would also like to see online updates for the game to keep driver rosters and team liveries as up to date as possible!

Great news, cheers for the update Redders!

Aye yeah, it will be nice to play an F1 game again after not having any for many years (since it went Sony exclusive, I think 2003 was the last one I played as I got rid of my PS2 shortly after and have not got a PSP or PS3). I just want Grand Prix to come back on PC and finally get a 360 version (Grand Prix 4 was canned for Xbox 1 which is a sad sight).

Cheers for the updates Rdders.

No worries guys. I must stress the March 2009 release date is unconfirmed, and in fact is a stupid date of release. The new cars won't have even done a race by then, so expect that date to change when a real source can give us it.

I think that when all the cars have been released and all the liveries are known and the cars have done a few races to see who is faster it will be great, But an Idea that should go in, is that as liveries may change over the year. E.G Red bull do something every year, they can add it as an update. then we can download and use at our leisure.

I'd set the game up to accept car updates. So in the release version, have the 2008 season. A month or two into the new season release a 2009 car pack. And then each week after the race use results and data to release a race by race preformance update.

I've always wanted a F1 game starting in 1950 and ending with the latest season and updates each year for maybe 10 bucks with the latest year. Hello holographic disks.

To be honest though, EA put F1 2000 out before the season started and had the car colours wrong for Minardi :(

I do like the idea of having old seasons in first but I think Codemasters will deffinatly promote this more before release as its a big budget game to get the Formula 1 IP so they will want to make sure it sells a truck load before releasing it.

As expected, the March 2009 date was just a fake and has been removed. Release Date is still unknown.

I suspect for it to be out for around June/July time, Let the liveries set in, get the intricate final designs of the cars, and make sure all the circuits are up to date before they let it out.

Well, do you mean F1 Championship Edition for the PS3? Because in the UK, F1 2006 (for the PS2) came out in July.

Also to Mr5Nascar, have you got a source for it?

It seems to vary world wide, as F1 is not that big in USA so it will not get rushed to be released there.

I hope we get it soon but well made.

Updated top post with the CodeMasters forum board link. Speaking of which, hello MS7XWDC (for those not aware, this user is a frequent face on the Codies board), nice to have you here :). I saw someone post on there saying there was some "revelations" from Codies last week, you know anything about those?

Hi, and thx for the welcome !

yes, 2 things came out:

We are not recycling tracks from GRID. They are all being built from scratch with our new, updated Ego tech in mind (which is much better than you've seen in DiRT and GRID) and will be fully researched, photographed, scanned, videoed etc. to ensure accuracy.

We're planning on having full length races right down to very short races for those that want it. Tyre wear and pit stops etc will be scaled accordingly so that they all still make sense. The integration of this and the lap length is still being investigated.

Hmmm, They've managed it before without too much hassle, But i guess they'll want data from the teams on how the tyres wear and such.

Anything been said about involvment of safety cars and red flags? Or damage models?

so far nothing on the SC. that and red flags are being discussed on the forum, but nothing from CM.

i think the damage will be like GRID visually [track debris etc] but i think it will effect the car performance more [in a SIM like way]

CM: "Our game will not be moddable. The data structures we use are very complex to make the most of current hardware and we'd have to release a whole range of editors, exporters and converters + you'd have to buy a range of expensive art tools to work with them. Let me translate that from marketing speak to laymen terms.

CM: "We will not make out game modifiable. The way we store our data, makes it all but impossible to mod, and we don't want to release public versions of our tool. We will be releasing an F1 game every year so you should get all the latest data you need at the highest possible price."

But really, CM? Modding is what makes all the top racing games, top racing games. rFactor, F1C 99-02, NR2003, GTR, etc...

I guess if it was fully moddable there would be little reason to buy the game the following year. Unlike a game like GRID or DiRT where there is no set list of tracks, with F1 you have almost the same list of circuits year after year. If you can tweak the performance of the cars through a mod, then potentially a dedicated fan could just release an update for each season reusing the existing game. It would be nice if skins could be user-made / moddable to give some personalisation to racing online.

Exactly what I'm saying. Yes, stuff moves slower than molasses in F1, but it would mean that each year newer and better features are added to the game. People would be more inclined to make past seasons than newer seasons anyways.

I can't wait for this game to come out. I've had F1 06 for nearly 3 years and I'm bored of playing Montoya and Ralf Schumi. I want to drive Vettel, Kubica and Hamilton.

Not to mention the fact BMW very rarely ever score points. Hell, they got 36 in the real 2006 season, scoring one or 2 points in most of the races that season to boot. Beemers were made to underperform heavily in the game...

They should maybe do what they do in Fifa where the field changes performance in perspective to how they performed in the real race earlier in the year, or based on their current form

It would be nice to have a persistent career to race through, with some element of randomness so it isn't always the same drivers in the top positions each race. Linking performance with success in the previous season and a random element would really keep me hooked to playing through multiple seasons. Is there any management side to the game, or will it just be focusing on the racing? I remember playing F1 manager many years ago, and enjoyed aspects of hiring and firing teammates, securing sponsorship deals to improve funding, and research and develop new parts for you car to improve performance. Anything like that planned for the game, or can't you say?

Codemasters is heading into 2009 with a strong new UK management team, and an
even stronger line-up of new products. Michael French speaks to UK GM Jeremy
Wigmore and marketing VP Alex Bertie about their plans for the year ahead…

The company is famed for its racing games – and you've a number of them due this
year. How will you differentiate between them?

AB: Most important is that we have racing games with very distinct identities.
FUEL is an open world racer. DIRT is a rally game full of authenticity which
also captures the driving life****

JW: The one thing that everyone knows about Codemasters is the development
quality of its racing games. That's never been in doubt, and I think that will
win out for each game.

And of course there is Formula One. What can you tell us about it?

AB: Our game is an opportunity to bring F1 back on multiple platforms to a
broader marketplace. Our vision for F1 is about making it exciting again as a
video game property. We can't talk about how we will do that yet, but we have
big plans that will not just be one huge game later this year, but a phased
approach over a number of years. There's a great alignment of ethos there that a
UK studio is working on the game of a sport whose current champ is a young
ambitious British driver.

I know this is meant to be a thread about the F1 game, but with DiRT, will the multiplayer be more like regular multiplayer where you can see and race against the other cars, or will it be like it was in DiRT, where you raced against the times of other cars but never saw them?
