Hi everyone,
here are 9 pages full of information about Formula One 06 on all consoles from an interview with a developer called Nick from Studio Liverpool.

If you dont' have time to read the whole 9 pages (or you're too lazy ;) ), you can check the summary of the good and bad points at the end of this post.

Page 1: Specific features
Page 2: Specific features (cont.1)
Page 3: Specific features (cont.2)
Page 4: Difficulty
Page 5: Damage/ Failures & AI
Page 6: Career & Qualifying
Page 7: Timing/ HUD & Commentary/Sound
Page 8: Online & TV mode
Page 9: PS3 version

Summary of the cool confirmed stuff for the PS2 & PS3 version:
The good:

General features:
formation lap (finally!), new tyres physics(cold/warm) that affect the performance - starting on cold tyre should see the wheels spinning and a slow getaway from the lights, fuel loads significantly affect the lap times, the Jerez test track in Spain is included. It is aimed to be a launch title for the PS3.

AI:
AI is more aggressive, quicker and more varied, AI fights for position even between AI controlled cars and looks for overtaking opportunities, AI have different race strategies.

Damage:
you can pop your engine in manual gears by over revving, the game is harder at higher difficulty levels, driving in "2nd class" cars (ex. Super Aguri) is much different from driving in "1st class cars" (ex. Renault), progressive tyre-wear - driving off the track causes more damage to the tyres, a big improvement in the damage system where you can wreck the car to pieces.

Commentary & Sound:
there will be full commentary, completely new commentary technology and content, test results really do have an influence on the teams’ performance during a race weekend.

Carrer & Qulaifying:
You can use Race Car Evolution in the same manner as any race weekend and develop the car at the track in the Practice Sessions - it sends you out in the practice sessions on different setups and hopefully you can establish the right sort of balance for your style of driving the car on a per-circuit basis, the helmets are simply in the profile selection stuff though – not unlocked, the new qaulification system is implemented accurately - a lowly qualifying position can be compensated by an aggressive race strategy with fewer pit stops, you will get a lot of advice during the races from the pit crew and Brundle and Allen are chatting away much more than in ’05, the engine sounds are completely redone.

Online:
Lots of improvements to the online system, Cross-platform network play, Players can also “Late Join” and simply jump in for control of an AI car that is already running (although no points or stats can be scored or recorded in that round), You could even do 18 races in a row online with 100% race lengths possible with tyre wear, fuel use, damage on.

The bad:

Safety car planned for the PS3 only, you can't drive in the pit lane on your own, no national anthems during podium celebrations, no launch control buttons, graphically the same as F1'05 (fpor the PS2 version only), no implementation of the two-engine rule in the game, no flat-spots for the tyres.

Interesting quotes about the PS3 version:
"The PS3, though, is something else! That machine is a Beast! We are adding an enormous amount of graphic detail to absolutely everything. To give you some idea about detail levels, one car in the PS3 game takes up the same amount of memory as all 22 cars in the PS2 version!! That’s a 22 fold increase! You can damage the sidepods on the PS3 cars and see in side the car and it has radiators and exhaust pipes and everything. It’s awesome. Gameplay-wise the PS3 also allows us to use much more accuarate collision models. In a PS2, the car has an invisible ”box” that detects collisions all the way around the car, but in the PS3, there is no single box – you can get the wheels interlocked with the other cars."

"The individual AI drivers on the PS3 can be sensitive pressure but allow have situational awareness. They’ll know when to risk putting put in blinding laps like trying to gain an advantage whilst people are pitting or trying harder to improve race points in the final stint. They’ll also know when to lap consistently if they are leading by some margin."

"Also for PS3, another feature is the inclusion of the much anticipated Safety Car, a better fidelity to the damage model, better physics, and a more sophisticated set of AI rules. The PS3 controller now has fully analog L2 and R2 buttonsm, so we’ll do a controller setup that has these as Accelerate and Brake to allow for greater control when anti lock brakes and traction control are off. Obviously we are also experimenting with the motion sensor function in the PS3 pad, but if we can get it working nicely with the game and accurately enoough for the type of driving you guys do – we’ll put that in too."

Its nice to see we can do the formation lap and then park it on the grid, i can't wait to have a go on that, but the rest is dissapointing. The guy said, we are making fun games, we want authenticity, and we aren't getting it. :(

I really, really hope the TC is good. The last F1 game I played is F1 2003 (official) and the game sucks. The settings are too realistic and I have a tough time getting into the grip of racing. I played for a few hours and finally gave up.

I remembered playing EA's F1 2001 and it was great. Eventhough it was not that real, still, the gameplay is easy to understand.

Personally, I prefer more realistic settings, but the developer said that there will be a good balance so that BOTH who prefer more realistic gameplay and those who prefer less realistic gameplay will be satisfied. :)

You're right; we're not getting enough authenticity in F1 games, but the game looks very good, at least better than F1'05 (hopefull!:) ).

I wish that either the people who made Gran Turismo 4 or Toca 3 would make the next F1 game.
No disrespect intented to Studio Liverpool, but you guys are not delivering what we F1 fans want.

They should let the people behind the game GTR make the game, that game is one of the best ever racing simulations, or Geoff Crammond from GP4, or the people behind Nascar Racing series. Those are all games which are actually better then games like Toca and GT.

Anyway back to the game, as usual it sounds promising but I doubt it that it will be even as good F1 97. Formation is cool but safety car for PS3 only, please. Even the games F1 99 till 01 had the safety car in them and it work very good indeed, just manual driving no problems, you pass a car you get a penalty, you pass the safety car your DQ as simple as that. But anyway it sounds promising and Im looking forward to it but I wouldnt put to much hopes on it.

BTW thanks for the info on the game.

I guess being in America has me more hyped for this game then most of you. I've not had a game since 03, F1 CAREER CHALLENGE.

I honestly like everything I see in those articles and am looking forward to the game as much as I am looking forward to God of War II.

I was glad that the F1'05 had many aids when I first picked up the game... Then I slowly turn it off one by one and soon I was racing in top difficulty with no map display whatever... so I like the way the game is designed... easy for me to learn and customize for difficulty.  I think they are on a good track here.  How can you get new fans if the game is hella hard to learn?

The game sounds very good IMO.
Let's hope that it delivers a better experience than F1'05.

The PS3 version definitley sounds great, but I expected better graphics.
Don't get me wrong; those graphics are excellent but the PS3 can certainly deliver more.

yea i have to agree with aloushi there, the PS3 can deliver better grapics, and Stdio Liverpool need to deliver a much better crash model, the one they put in there is good, but where are the cars flipping and rolling in a serious accident?

Every company that want, should be able to do a Formula 1 game. This should be like football games, there is EA's FIFA for the more arcade gamers, and Konami's Winning Eleven for who looks for realism, they can make a terrible game and what can we do about it? As long as they pay for FIA they will own the right to make it.

obviously the ps3 version of this game will be far superior to anything weve seen on the ps2.....

1)for the future.....look back on the 2001 games from EA and compare them to the 06's.......thats quite a difference....so look at the first release of the ps3 stuff.....imagine how much better fifa 2010 will be then fifa 07......

2)ps2 version: i havent played any f1 since 01 so im in for a big shock....im def getting a ps3....been saving for a while so im biting the fingernails waiting for novemeber.....and f1 is supposed to realease at or near launch....im dying......

3) as for subjects like the start/launch controls, the two engine rule, 110% qualifying rule, etc......im kinda torn by what ea is doing and what ea has done....

one side of me is saying that (looking at both platforms now) EA is right to do this because i think that these things are not that important in the scheme of things because it doesnt effect in game racing, which is were i think they need to concetrate most.....its not like your putting in the engine, and the lauch controls would be used once a race, and alot of people would break the 110% rule and get angry starting in the back with the super aguri.....haha no offense.....i think they need to start to get in game racing elements correct first......things like flags for cutting corners for both intentional cutting and collision avoidance.....and obviously A.I. because i guarantee that you ALL will be more angry if you qualified 3rd, 4th, etc and get killed going around the first tight turns of SPA or monaco......

the other side of me says they should be in there for realism no matter how many people get confused by the 110% rule......and that i should not be able to race if my engines arent working.....

i think my first point is the one im goin with for now.....i think they need to find their nitch with the ps3, because it is cleary were the focus for the future is, even though they say that they will continue to make ps2 games......once they are comfortable, i think we will see the most realistic games and players of all playing types will be able to enjoy.....:D

Here is the box front of the game;

Looks original, I hope they've put more effort in the game then in the front pic.

That should be the UK look since its a British site, but dont even think there is an US version coming. Back to the pic, well there were always different versions of the boxfront, like this one

the Dutch front just insist on having Albers on there for some reason. Hope they dont do that this time.

I found an early review of the game.

Xtra Games was fortunate enough to get our hands on an advance copy of Sony's forthcoming Formula One 06, the latest racing title from their in-house developers. Today's review covers the PlayStation 2 version, however racing punters can expect this one on the PlayStation Portable as well as a pumped up version for the hotly anticipated PlayStation 3.

If there's anything Sony have done right, it's nurture the race-driving dreams of gamers everywhere, hardcore and casual alike. With their latest Formula One instalment they've gone above and beyond to include every type of gamer to ensure maximum exposure of both the title and series as a whole.

Some one on the forum of the game found some more videos and screenshots.

IMAGES:http://www.gamekult.com/images/J000076974/

VIDEOS:http://www.gamekult.com/tout/jeux/fiches/J000076974_video.html

I especially recommend watching the videos. It clearly shows how good the damage model is and even that you get penalised when crossing the white line coming from the pits!
