With Williams recording their worst ever start to a season in their history, I wanted to pose a question. Will Williams ever be a championship winning team again? Can they relive the days between the late 80s and 2004?

Short answer: No

Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I kid, their current issues seems to be a lack of funding. Allowing Sam Michael to leave is probably a good move (that guy just wrecks teams it seems to me). They need the cash to develop the car which would bring in a good driver thus help with sponsorship. They are stuck in a cycle of having good drivers who either do not bring in money or are in a car that is not good enough. They seem to have a good car last year and got some good points, but did not continue their early season form into the later end of the year, whether this was to focus on this seasons car or poor choices in development I do not know. Frank Williams I feel is not to blame as he seems to do what he can with the resources the team has (lets be honest here, I do not expect their budget is much more than say Caterham or Sauber, in that lower budget end of the field, not a Minardi level, but private teams tend to not have billions to throw at their cars).

If Williams were to get a manufacturer behind them, then maybe they could get ahead again. I do not know how much PDVSA is pumping in but I get the impression they are the biggest sponsor the team has and without Maldonaldo they really would struggle for cash.

theoritically with such big changes for next year the whole grid could be turned on it's head!

I agree with Garfield - they have had good drivers ( the Hulk and Nico ) that they had to let go because they needed "pay-drivers" like Maldonado who is distinctly average. F1 should be 22 of the best 30 drivers in motorsport but isn't due to this problem.
