Dissidia Final Fantasy's Battle System..

-------Brave Points--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Unlike the regular hit and damge HP sort of game,the amount of HP damage you can inflict is based on your Brave Points.(The numbers are above the HP bar)If the enemy's Brave or your's run below 0,it will Break.A Brave Pool will be seen in the centre of the screen,on the bottom side.The Brave Pool will then be added to your current Brave Points.To build up Brave Points you must attack your enemy with Brave Attacks.Note that all Summons can be used to affect your enemy's Brave or your own.

------Health----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------HP can only be affected by HP attacks.HP attacks vary as differently as their Brave Attacks counter side.They are also usually Unblockable,however,in certain situations,HP Attacks can be blocked or countered but it is impossible to block it with a normal Guard.Whenever a HP attack is being executed,the surroundings will turn darker and there will be a name of the attack appearing on the top of the screen,allowing you a split second chance to escape.

----Defences---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The initial defensive abilites you get is dodging and guarding.However,some characters are capable of doing dodging or guarding then attacking as a type of attack.Such as Firion/Firionel,one of his HP attacks involve a Guard that can deflect any forms of Brave Attack and depending on the range he will use knives or Magic to counter.Tidus have many dodge related attacks,dodging and attacking a split second later.Exdeath is capable of defending himself against most attacks,including HP attacks when he learnt All Guard

----Arenas------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Arenas you have initially are familiar scenes from Final Fantasy I-X and Cosmos' Throne.However,as you progress,Chaos' Throne and Alternate Maps are available.Alternate Maps are the same maps of those you already have,however,they are still different in a way as the Maps will physically change or have certain abilities such as reducing Brave points and adding it up to the Brave Pool.

----General Actions--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Pressing the Triangle Button allows you to scale walls,ride on those weird Lifestream-like beams and leap from one platform to the other provided that there is an arrow popping out on screen.Attacks,depending on allocation,will need the combination of direction and the Circle or Square button itself.R1 allows Guard and L1 allows Lock On.

---Abilities------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Abilities are generally seperated into Attack,Action,Support and Extra.Attack Abilities are the things you need to even execute an attack.Action is usually extra Action abilities that you can do such as Lock-On to Ex Core.Support allows automatic functions such as Auto-Limit Break.Extra usually involves Passive abilities such as Critical when attacking enemy from behind etc.

--Ex Bar--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Ex Bar,when filled,allows you to turn into Ex Mode(R1 + Square)In this Mode,your attacks are generally more powerful and deepending on your character,they will have different abilities,either Passive or Manual,such as Gliding,Protect,Guard-Break,Dual Cast and more.Ex Cores will occasionaly appear in the Map,it will drain all Ex Orbs(Ex Orbs will appear whenever you smash the enemy hard and vice versa)and depending on the amount of wings it have,the different levels of Ex it will charge.(In Ex Mode you will also look significantly different.For example,Cloud,depending on his Costume,will have his weapon turned into Ultima Weapon or the entire First Tsurugi set.)There are also Special Attacks,just press R1 + Square while in Ex Mode.Cecil,for example,will turn freely between Dark Knight and Paladin without the use of attacks,Sephiroth is able to use Heartless Angel(Unfortunately,Heartless Angel affects only Brave points)

--Limit Break---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you manage to score a HP hit on Ex Mode,you will be able to get into Limit Break Mode.Just tap Square when the icon shows up.However,you need to execute your Limit Break properly,depending on the characters,the Limit Break will vary...

Warrior of Light-Press the directional Buttons as shown--Garland-Tap O repeatedly

Firion-Press the buttons in the correct sequence--The Emperor-Similar to Firion in some ways.

Onion Knight-According to the form your in(Ninja or Sage),Select the correct skills-CoD-Hold onto O until the bar reaches 120%

Cecil-Press the button sequence as shown--Golbeza-Similar to Cecil's

Bartz-Similar to Warrior of Light--Exdeath-Similar to Cloud of Darkness

Terra-Requires tapping of Left Button and O--Kefka-Buttons are shown for a brief moment,add the correct sequence later

Cloud-Tap O repeatedly--Sephiroth-Similar to Cloud's

Squall-Trigger System--Ultimecia-Trigger System,except you press O this time.

Zidane-Tap O repeatedly--Kuja-Tap O repeatedly...

Tidus-Blitzball time...Similar to the Blitzball Limit Break he had in FFX--Jecht-Similar to Tidus

Shanttoto-Requires the correct Sequence of Spells(Flare,Flood,Burst,Quake,Tornado,Freeze)

Gabranth-Similar to Basch's Quickening in FFXII

--PP Shop------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the PP shop you can buy Bonus Items,Bonus Features and...pretty much a Bonus Shop to be honest.

--Extra Features-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------There are multiple features in this feature...err..Icons,here you can find portraits or familiar looking sort of avatars.There is also a Theatre,where you can play back to all the scenes you have experienced and play all the Music you unlocked and a Voice Player(Probably useful to video makers)Speaking of Videos,the game have a Play-Back feature,you don't need to record your Battles with a Camera anymore,just press Square after each Battle.Save it into your Memory Stick and play it back in one of the Bonus Feature Sections.You can also change angles and make it into your own private movie of some sort...

--Equipments--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rather than the good ol' buy and forget sort of thing of the usual FF series,you need materials to create advanced equipments.Materials can be gained through battles and "Ghost" Duels(Ghost Duels are special duels in the Multiplayer Section,Offline Lobby)Recipes need to be unlocked first,unfortunately,there are cheats which are necessary for powerful recipes and stuff like that.However,it is still possible to obtain equipments from the enemy but you must have a high Luck Parameter to get really powerful items.Each Character have a limit to what they can equip...excluding Bartz and Firion,who can equip almost anything.

--Chaos--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This is what we call an overpowered nasty old villain.He have three Forms and with each form he grows nastier...I'll not spoil the surprise by telling you the attacks however..but I can tell you that his Third Form have a Limit Break called Ultimate Combo which inflicts Brave Damage then his most powerful attack,Final Fantasy(ironic eh?)However it is avoidable.

--Modes--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------There is a Story Mode,Duel Mode and Colliseum mode.Initially,you only have Story and Duel Mode.Story Mode is composed of Destiny Oddeysee I-X,Prologue and once unlocked,Shade Impulse,Inward Chaos and Distant Glory(Good and Evil,it's needed to Unlock Shanttoto and Gabranth at the PP Shop)Note that Story Mode is the only place where you can find Summons.Destiny Points is needed to fill up the Destiny Bar,the more the Destiny Bar is filled,the more you can see or get the next time you try...For the sake of getting 100% you must attack every enemy,get every item in the Map or Destiny Point Bonus Item(Depending on the Destiny Point you have,you might get Bonus items at the end of each Sub-Chapter)

--Reports-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If your truly a hardcore fan..well there are Reports of Cosmos and Chaos..you need to clear Inward Chaos with each corresponding Hero or Villain...which means it will be a truly difficult and long ordeal I assure you...However the Reports explains the past of Cosmos and Chaos and Shinryuu.

--Attacks(cont'd)-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Note that some Characters have HP-Brave Link attacks,it needs to be equipped,however.When equipped,when your performing that certain attack with that HP attack being fused into it,pressing Square will allow a HP attack.Such as Omnislash V.5(Flashy..)Some Characters require timing to allow a full potential of their attacks,such as Jecht.

--Abilities(cont'd)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Note that there is a limit to the amount of Abilities you can have,Abilities can also be mastered to lower the amount of CP points they take up.(CP Bar is the limit of abilities you can have)Some Skills,when Mastered,will cause you to learn Advanced Abilities of it's kind.Some Abilities need to be bought off the shop..not only with Gil but also with the exchange of certain rare accessories.

--Accessories---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It's functions is split into..Passive,Action,Material and Parameter.Passive allows..say..better Ex Orbs draining.Action/Multiplier types are,depending on your situation in battle and what you do,allows a increase of damage.Materials are better off being used to make Accessories.Parameters increase your...Parameters :P

--Parameters--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Parameters are BRV,HP,ATK,DEF,LUK.Brave is the initial Brave you can get for each start of the battle or after a break.HP is the Max HP you have...ATK is the damage you can inflict,Def...your defence obviously and Luck,the amount of chance you can get a Item.

--Battle---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Before each Battle there is a Preparation screen of some sort.You can change Music,look at what your enemy is wearing and Battle Rise.Battle Rise tells you what accesory you can get if you..say..Break their Brave Points and the percentage of chance you can get it.High Luck can help you increase your percentage.However,Equipments require the Chocobo Feature.

--Chocobo Feature--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This Feature allows you to get bonus Items.The initial Chocobo Feature you have is the Yellow Chocobo(short-long)Later,you can get Black/Purple Chocobo and Fat Chocobo

--Chase Sequence---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Some attacks will blast the enemy into the air and a X button will come up,pressing it will initiate a Aerial battle..except it isn't impressive till the standards of AC and all.All you have to do is strike the enemy down with O or Square,if you missed you will have to dodge the enemy's attack with X.Note that smashing the enemy into the wall will allow the damage of what ever amount of Brave you have now + a bonus damage(The bonus damage is 1/2 of your HP Damage)

--Ex Mode-Bonus Abilities-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------WoL-Reflect Attack,Protect(These two increases defences) Divine Protection of Light(Allows Swords of Light to appear with each Brave Attack)Limit Break is called:Oversoul,he also changes into his Knight Form.

Garland-He won't stagger when attacking(Only applies to offensive Brave Attacks) His Limit Break is:Soul of Chaos.His armour turns white,probably signifying the times when he was a Hero.

Firion-His weapons turn into Blood Weapons.(In reference to the Blood Sword)He is able to Drain HP with each HP Attack.His Limit Break is called:Fervid Blazer.

Mateus-He turns into his Demon Form.His able to Drain Hp in the same way as Firion.Hit Limit Break is called:Absolute Rule(Upon Success)If it's a failure it'll be Cyclone.

Onion Knight-He turns into Sage or Ninja accordingly to attacks.His spells are intensified.Sage Limit Break:He uses Great Magic,Holy,followed up by an almight Flare.Ninja Limit Break:He uses Ninjitsu Shuriken,followed by a Back Attack.If it's a failure he only uses Back Attack or Flare respectively.

Cloud of Darkness-She turns...green(You know what I mean)She can use HP attacks non-stop(Unless you hit her of course)her Limit Break is..Super Cannon Wave,upon failure it's a weaker type.

Cecil-He wields a MythGraven Blade or Deathbringer accordingly to the form your in.His able to change forms freely in Ex Mode.His Limit Break is called:Double Phase.Upon Success it will be Cross Slash(Paladin)Upon Failure,Darkness(Dark Knight)

Golbez-He fuses himself with Shadow Dragon(Gold Dragon if it's the alternate costume)He can use Special Attack:Black Fang(Instant Break to enemy but requires a long charging time)His Limit Break is Twin Moons(typical..)Gravity Quake upon failure,Meteor upon Success.

Bartz-He turns into his Mime Class form(Three stars upon his head and all)His able to use Goblin Punch as a Special Attack.His Limit Break is..Rapid Fire Dual Wield Spell Blade,where he fuses all his Dissidia comrades weapon with the Crystal's power(The Crystals of the FFV,Fire,Wind,Water and Earth)

Exdeath-He turns dark blue with red trimmings with a torn cape.His Guard Attacks become more powerful and you can do more Counters.His Limit Break is called..err..The Laws of the Universe Means Nothing.Upon Failure he casts Grand Cross,upon Success,Neo Almagest.

Terra-She turns into her Trance/Esper Form.She gains the ability to Glide and use Dual Cast.Her Limit Break is Riot Blade..but it's really just Desperation Attack.

Kefka-He turns into his God of Magic form.His attack becomes harder to evade.His Limit Break is called Warring Triad.Failure:Forsaken.Success:Light of Judgement.

Cloud-His weapon turns into Ultima Weapon(In alternate costume,his weapon is turned into the entire set of the First Tsurugi)He is also able to Break Guards and his damage is based on the HP he has(Similar to the Ultima Weapon of FFVII eh?)His Limit Break is..Omnislash,however,if it's a failure he uses a different type of Finishing Touch.

Sephiroth-He sprouts his Black Wing.His also able to glide and perform Heartless Angel which reduces the enemy's Brave to 1.His Limit Break is SuperNova upon success,if it's a failure he seems to be using Draw Slash as seen in Crisis Core.

Squall-His weapon turns into Lion Heart.His damage also becomes unforgivable.(Dual hits for each blow)His limit break is Renzokuken,finishing up with End of Heart.

Ultimecia-She turns into the Griever-Ultimecia fusion,except it's more human this time.She is able to freeze the enemy for a short while as her Special Attack.Her Limit Break is called Time Compression,she ends it with End of Memories.

Zidane-He turns into his Trance Form.His Limit Break is called Reverse Gaia,finishing off with a Grand Lethal.He also gains more jumps in this form.

Kuja-He turns into his Trance Form,his hops and jumps and falls will all deal a certain amount of damage in that particular area.His Limit Break is Last Requiem,where he continuously strikes the enemy with Flare Stars and ending it up with Ultima.

Tidus-His weapon is turned into Ultima Weapon(Caladbolg for our friends in North America)His becomes ridiculously fast and is able to perform Magic Guard when running.His Limit Break is Blitz Ace,where he uses Swordplay Overdrive and later using a Blitzball.

Jecht-Turns into his SIN form.Once caught in his attacks it will become very difficult to escape.His Limit Break is Blitz King,it's similar to Tidus' limit break but with Two Timers.

Shanttoto-She dons a Cobra Cloche Set/Sorcerer's attire(In the other Costume,she wears a Black Mage Relic Armour)She gains Manafont,she won't lose her Brave after each HP attack.Her Limit Break is the execution of Flare,Flood,Burst,Quake,Tornado and Freeze.

Gabranth-He becomes fully armoured and he seperates his swords.His Limit Break is similar to Basch's Quickening,the attacks in it is Fulminating Darkness,Ruin Impendment and Flame Purge.Upon different amount of success,the Final Blow is..Inferno,Ark Blast and Black Hole.

Holy crap. You are extremely deserving of that officer status if you can write that much about a seemingly simple game such as Dissidia. One question, though: How do you get Fat Chocobo? I've been playing for over 300 hours, I have all characters at Level 100 and everything is bought from the PP shop, and still no Fat Chocobo!

The fact that the folks at Square have packed SO much content into a PSP blows my mind. They've incorporated everything from chocobos to limit breaks and it makes me smile.

but honestly, that's quite cool, full Guide to the battle system before the english version released :D i love it!

can't wait to ask you about FFXIII when its coming on english :D just don't spoil the whole thing up by playing the JP version lol

In Duel Mode,you can choose a number of options.Map,AI(Enemy will be able to block and dodge more efficiently),Level,Aggresiveness(Enemy will be more prone on doing attacks) and once unlocked,there is a certain system(I don't know it's name,can't find any sources for it so I'll use God's Sign for now) that gives you the edge to the battle field or to be at the worst of it.The signs randomly appear on screen at any time of the battle provided that it is on (1-5,1 is Off,5 is common)Once it is on it will provide a random effect to either side or both.Such a Summon Recycle(Summons can only be used once but if this happens,your Summon can be used again.)Lowered Defence,Stun/Freeze and a number of other varieties of effects.

Warrior of Light (to) Tidus:Pieces of Cosmos/Warriors of Cosmos

Garland (to) Jecht:Pieces of Chaos/Warriors of Chaos

Terra & Jecht will have something...unexpected related to the plot.

Shinryuu:Though it doesn't actually appear in the storyline,it's VITAL to the plot.

Chaos:God of Discord...there's more to him than just being evil I assure you.

Cosmos:She told the heroes to gather the Crystals...with a plan in mind.There's more to just gathering Crystals.

(I probably got you guys more pumped up if I say these :P)

Shanttoto and Gabranth:In one Extra Cutscene,Shanttoto appears to be a bodyguard of Cosmos or something,Gabranth appeared in Cosmos Throne.It is unclear what happened afterwards.

Cid of the Lufaine:He acts as the Narrator of the whole "story".(Cid of FFII)

In Story Mode,you'll start off with something like a chess board.Each Action will deplete your Destiny Points(For functions of DP,refer to the above..err..statement,wherever it is :P)However,fulfilling a Battle Requirement allows it to fill up.Your Chess Piece will be the Avatar of the character your using,enemy pieces will be "Copies" of the Main Characters.Depending on Level the Pieces will look different.Boss Pieces will be Black and spiky and big(Villain) White and big with a wing/Feather if it's a(Hero)Your Goal is the Sign at the end.According to Cosmos,it's the Sign that "enlights or clears the road ahead"(Or something like that)There are also Treasure Chests scattered across the Battle Board.Blue means that there is an Item in it,Red means it's filled with PP(Currency for Bonus Items/Features)Red Crystals are Summons.Some roads appear to be blocked because they aren't "unlocked yet"At the end of each Chapter,your DP Total will be summed up and used to fill up the DP Bar.The more it is filled,the more you can get the next time you play the same Story Mode again.So you'll need to play each story mode at least twice if you wanna get the Summons and Items.
