Here's something you have to remember in regards to XII's story line. A lot of it's "all-over-the-place" political commentary is due in part to XII's director emeritus Yasumi Matsuno, who's notorious for writing stories in this style. If you look at Final Fantasy Tactics (also directed by Matsuno) you can see how much he's committed the story to the complications brought upon by warring nations. The entirety of the story line, and the way it affects the main characters, is embedded in the larger conflict they are all caught up in. However, it can make the whole thing seem a little stilted, especially when the majority of the narrative deals with the conflict, rather than the characters one is playing as. FFXII has a lot of characters in it, and none of them have a really deep story you want to grasp onto. Even the Vaan/Panelo story line is kind of flat...
Matsuno chooses to focus on the political intrigue, the issues of an almost medieval ruling system and caste system...people at the bottom fighting against the people at the top (Vaan/Panelo). People on the fringes taking on responsibilities that may not be required of them (Balthier/Fran). People fighting to regain what they've lost do to war and struggle (Basch/Ashe). At it's heart tho, all the cutscenes deal less with the people, and more with the large conflict of Ivalice/Dalmasca/Rabenastre/and Bhujerba (butchering some of the names, forgive me)
That can be a little boring to watch...you almost have to have lived through the entire history of Ivalice in order to keep track of what's going on.

I think it's safe to wait and see what FFXIII is going to be like. It's supposed to feel more like X with a totally new story line not connected to "The Ivalice Alliance" realm of games. But with a lot of the key players of previous final fantasy games having moved on to new studios (i.e. Mistwalker Studios Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu, as well as others) it will be interesting to see if these new development teams can keep it going. Some print and online sites have already started to ask "what developer is the new SquareEnix. What will be the new FF if 13 doesn't succeed?"
Kinda sucks to be under that kind of pressure.
I don't think they're losing it...but I think remake city only gets you so far [with the fans]. Now if they make a remake of FFVII, that's another story...but that's also another thread, I think.
I hope to God FFXIII actually has exploration like XII and not that 'dog on a leash' feeling in X. I freaking hated that you were led in a straight line througthout that entire game. In X-2, they made a game that is simotaneously linear and non linear. That disappointed me big gime about hte gamesI think it's safe to wait and see what FFXIII is going to be like. i agree with ur logic... however.. ff tactics succeded in haveing the player developa bond with characters, 12 did not.. and tactics' story is far more intricate, and provides much much more closure than 12s ending did.i dont like the characrers of tactics so far, im on chaoter 2 and ramza is so annoying! he is the stereotypical gallant fool and delita is the stereotypical friend gone bad. the way you describe males me think itll get better thjjough so i wont satop playing it (because notr finishing an ff game is sheer blasphemy!)johngebreadmanooo........
You my freind havent even scraped the surface of the plot.... i realy dont want to spoil anything so it is hard for me to explain why u are wrong. When u realize what ramza is truly up against and why it becomes personal, on top of Delitas ultimate goal..... man the irony alone will win u over and make u appreciate them on top of theA class antagonists to go along with them. man.. if this is your first time playing this game plz try to avoid clouding ur thoughts with these opinions and finish the game through (at least the story line) and im almost positive that ur mind will change, if not than i geuss its just not the story for you, wich would be very unfortunate :(

i will finish it im at castle lionel but cant beat the gaffgarion, his shadow blade is annoying, what is the best setup for Ramza at this point?
It does seem that final fantasy is losing its touch. I found that they seemed to be going down around 10. 10 was a good game but then 10-2 wasnt all that great. 12 wasnt bad but it wasnt good on the other hand. DOC i didnt find that bad of a game but i could have been better. Any way i think that Square enix needs to find the magic that square soft had and bring it back to life soon before everyone starts to get mad.Jmah1337You are suggesting that DoC is a better game than FFXII? That suggestion isn't even plausible, even more so if you have ever actually played a good shooter in your life

Very true. I might not be the biggest XII fan but that game crushes DoC. Square shouldnt bother with shooters. Leave that to valve and epic.
[QUOTE="KnightsofRound"]I'll make my decision on this subject after I've played Crisis Core and Final Fantasy XIII.fs_metalSo....in 2009 then
Basically lol.
I mean I don't think it would be fair to decide if the series is losing it's touch since we've only really had 1 true Final Fantasy after Final Fantasy X, and even if me or other people don't like certain things about Final Fantasy XII, it's not remotely bad in any way so it would just be plain unfair to make a decision like that based off one game.
I don't really count FFXI and FFX-2 into the equation since to me they aren't really TRUE FF games and more like spin-offs. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is said to have really captured the essence of the original though so I'm looking forward to that, especially after the disappointment that was Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. It wasn't horrible, but no way could it ever stack up to the greatness of the original game that it's based on, same thing with Final Fantasy X-2.

I have to agree, ya Sakaguchis permanent absence possibly makes a difference, but the creative minds are still there. FF 12 was just as final fantasy as any other, One thing does sit uneasy with me.. Im not so hot on the whole multi ff13 saga there going to deliver.. Why cant it simply be a new simple instalment of the final fantasy series, rather than an entire project spanning multi games and multiple platforms. The last remnant seems more like it could be a final fantasy game, since there going all out with new gamplay styls anyways..Nope.
Like FS said, Kojima is one of the few (and his production co.) game producers that is more for quality and inovative games. Hes by far Pro - Wii and sees alot of potention in the "wii" feild.
Im not sure if there has been any info leaks stating that there will be additional mgs titles to come after mgs4 (not including spin offs) whatever happens, the series must go down with a proper ending.
