Final Fantasy IX is said to be the culmination of the Final Fantasy games, from I-VIII, before the series hopped to the then, next-gen, Playstation 2 console.

What are the things you liked about the game? Maybe you have a secret to share with new FFIX gamers. Post everything about FFIX in this thread...

It wasn't one of my favorite Final Fantasy games. But I did enjoy the look of the world and it's characters.

Me personally, it was one of my favorite FF games. The characters had a good background story to each that played very well into the storyline. The ending portion of the game, Memoria, was awesome. Not the most difficult place I have ever been in the myriad of games I have played but still difficult in its own right. Memoria certainly isnt anything to sneeze at. Honestly, I think it was the character design and how well they all integrated into the story to create one hell of an adventure is appeals to me. The story successfully evoked a very wide assortment of emotions from a lot of people from the sorrow of (forgive me if i butcher the spelling...its been so long) Burmecia being lost to the hatred of Kuja to the mixed feelings between Princess Garnet (Dagger, whatever you named her) and Zidane and their effect on us (the players).

FFIX is one of the best out there, and my personal favorite. :D

I especially love how there are so many references to other Final Fantasies. The game is graphically impressive and has very beautiful backgrounds, it's like an animated illustration book. IX also has an amazing soundtrack, by none other than Nobuo Uematsu (I butchered his name, didn't I ?.. :|) Many of the tracks are very memorable, and will make you whistle them non-stop while not playing the game :P

It has a great and epic story that got me hooked and made me wonder what would happen next during the whole game. I also really enjoyed the game's sense of humor. Even today, I still laugh out loud at some hilarious conversations or when I watch Steiner crash on that wall in the beginning

Theme, setting, story, music.. ya its great and deffenitely memorable.

Game play wise, the game was incredibly weak and offered little end game challanges. And is the only ff game to date that completley renders most of teh characters obsolete and usless once u reach around lvl 80+

The soundtrack issomething I completely forgot to hit on. Dont worry, you got his name right. Nobuo Uematsu came out with some of his best stuff with FFIX. I think my personal fav song was just before entering into Memoria, Assault of the Silver Dragons. Even now, I got that song goin through my head :D.

I love "Melodies of Life" and "Not Alone!". Those are some of my favorite songs in all of the Final Fantasy music out there. And I'm going to make it official now: I think I like FFIX more than FFVII. You all know how I've been a major FFVII fan, well, I still am, but FFIX took over first place.

I'm not sure about what you mean
FFIX had really good gameplay and the game was challenging unless you were overpowred (and I guess you must have been, if you say the game was not challenging eng-game)

The reason that no FF past VI seems to be challenging is because of the shear amount of customization that is capable. VI and older didnt have the incredible amount of customization thats possible in the later FF games. IX kinda got away from that and XII...that grid system is the apitomy of customization however the core game itself still kept a degree of difficulty which was refreshing to many players (including myself)

If what you say is true, woud FFV and FFIII for the DS not be 2 of the easiest FFs? They are customizable as hell with their extremely in depth job systems, but they are both very challenging games

III for the DS was quite easy actually...to me at least. The overall difficulty just didnt seem to be there from my perspective. Fun game to play but was incredibly easy to powerlevel and overcome whatever was there to fight. Honestly though, I havent played much of V. The job system offered a good way of customizing that didnt detract from the overall difficulty of the game however the job system was a set thing. You had team customization with the job system...not individual customization. The various jobs dictated what your party could do as a whole...the individual customizations seen in VII and VIII as well as X and XII allowed you to dictate what each individual could do.

The other thing with III was the magic system. There wasnt exactly that much customization with it however from time to time with the different level spells was that you could choose which spell to put in over another (three slots for spells and from time to time you would come across 4 spells for that level and forced to leave one out).

Did you beat it? Later in the game, it gets very hard. Enemies that can wipe your out party in one to two turns, no matter how much you level. Leveling gets to the point where it takes hours. So on and so forth.

You can customize your individual characters with the job system. Select what 2 jobs you wanted them to have. Select what powerrs you want to use from each job. Become more powerful in each job. It's the most customizable thing in FF history,l pretty much....save the gambit system, but the gambits didn't make this game any easier, really. You still had areas in the game where you would get swamped, and, great gambit setup or not, you would get owned

Yup...I beat FFIII with little to no difficulty. The final area was fun and the final boss offered a decent challenge but the rest of the game was pretty easy to powerlevel and blow through. I dont have my DS with me so I cant check what level I was when I beat the game. Eventually, I will go through it again with a different setup hopefully making it a little more challenging. I wonder though...they are rereleasing FFIV in the same format as III for the DS. I wonder how that will work out. I suppose I was speaking generally when comparing them. Yeah you can choose a couple things with the various jobs. The gambit system is far from perfect however i still say that you can have generally one setup for each character with just minor differences based on that character. FFXII is definitely not easy but its not the most difficult game I have played. It is quite refreshing. I wonder how FFXIII will turn out.

Dude...the final area of hte game was a random battle every freaking step of the way.

FFXII is significantly more difficult than any other post FFVI game.

BTW, everything in FFXII is perfect

You are right on the difficulty being higher than post FFVI...I never said it wasnt. The final area of FFIII was quite fun and challenging (compared to the rest of the game)

Im gonna stop debating so people can get back to appreciating FFIX which this thread is about. I didnt mean to get caught up a debate like this.

FFIX was a great game. It had interesting characters, good story, some nice music, and fun gameplay (that wasn't very challenging). FFIX is high up on my list of my favorite FF's.

Great game with lots of things that will make you remember the past FFs. I just feel that the system used in learning the abilities is a little lacking. I love systems where you are given many customization options like the job System, Materia Systme and the Junction System.

Btw, I love the FMVs. The best.... and also, Vivi.

The hot and cold game was alright, I only playeed it so I could reach Ozma and get some characters' strongest weapons (though that's probably the only reason why anybody would play the game).

Yep, and then after aquiring all the goodies in the game, it becomes a huge pushover. note: getting all the goodies does not take long at all and completing it only nets u a few good stuff, not including access to ozma, zidane, freya, eiko ,adelbert, and sarahs best wepons.

OOOO hell yea i loved the battle music!!!! It pumps me up

I liked everything about FFIX, the characters, music, and the chocobos, but i didnt care too much for the card game tho. The CG movies were badass too, especially the one with Bahamut and Alexander!!!
