Now that all of you are 100% convienced that Final Fantasy XIII is coming to North America in 2010, what do you think could be the hold up?

I don't think it's the Xbox 360 port holding it up, rather then the initial development of the Playstation 3 version. Plus the localization hasn't even begun which sits right alongside the 360 port. If we don't see in Spring of 2010 or the beginning of the Summer then I know for sure that the Xbox 360 version is holding back a brotha! AND I WON'T BE HELD BACK! ROFL

I have no idea what the hold up could be...whatever the case is..doesn't really seem right. Why couldn't Enix just flat out say the reason instead of just pushing back the date with no answers. Whatever it is..I'm sure it's a good enough reason, I rather them take their time and not rush it to get the best possible outcome.

I agree, I am tired of waiting, but I'd rather have a great late product then a **** rushed game.

The 360 is not to blame, all SE games come later than Japan, and just ask yourself this "Do you want FFXIII, or a uncomplete buggy game which you wont like?"

Haven't you heard ? Final Fantasy XIII will not be released in the US until the 360 port is complete. So, in addition to the localization, they will intentionally hold back the PS3 version, just so they can both come out at the same time.

But that is not the reason for it coming out in 2010 which evryones is blaming the 360 for, plus it is a lot more complex than creating a final version for the American and Europeean FFs for the PS3 and then porting them to the 360, its using computers to create the Final Fantasy XIII pal versions and (whatever you call them in america) versions. If anything it will most likely be started during localizaion

How so ? Please explain. I agree that the Xbox 360 port was not the only reason, but it's definitely one of the reasons why it's coming out so late.

And I don't know anything about programming, but if what you said is true about it being difficult to port to the 360, doesn't that sort of prove my point ? :?

I am saying that I am agreeing with your point about the 360 "MIGHT" slow down the release but it is not entirely it's fault if so, I was basically saying that SE wouldn't start working on the 360 port after they finish localization and the final version of the PS3 copy, they will most likely start during as localization and programming would be two diffferent teams meaning they could both work at the same time.

That way they may have already ported a 360 starting copy during localization and then all theywould have to do is localize it and finish it, which may not take as long as evryone thinks (well certaily not the reason for it to coming out in 2010)

No, localization already started during development of the game and could already be finished by now... I remember writing an article about that earlier last year. As you already said, localization and programming are 2 different things altogether and require different teams. Square-Enix thought it would be a smart idea to start it earlier, since the script was already done.

In fact, there's not even room left for doubt. Square-Enix has already acknowledged that. Here's a direct quote from director Motomu Toriyama: "We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."

Exactly. Plus the Xbox 360 and PC are in a loving relationship when it comes to porting games. And since Final Fantasy XIII is being developed on PC computers(and tested as well) with a vey compatible 3D engine for both platforms(Crystal Tools), the port could actually be completed before localization. Even with Square Enix's QA on their final examination of the 360 version it might be faster then the North American localization.

Edit: Wada said localization would begin when the Japanese version is finished(which it isn't), of course.

Everyone knows that aside from the long development and localization, the porting of the 360 version is the reason for the extended hold up.

I say reguardless what's holding it up, I still never doubted it being release in 2010. I say if the 360 version wasn't being made, then we would have seen it drop at the earliest, around the Holiday season of 2009 but more likely early 2010. Now the porting of the 360 pushed it to middle of 2010. Either way, we wait.

NeoGen has got it pretty spot-on there. Crystal Tools is a PC-based engine. And since porting PC games to 360 and vice-versa is a very simplified process it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Also people should stop blaming 360 version so much. Even when FFXII was on PS2 it took almost six months for localisation to be complete. Considering it won't be releasing until November in Japan, the localisation period will be the same for both the games.

lol :P it wont be half a year to create the 360 port as like NeoGen85 said it is developed on a PC and then ported to the 360, and it is fact that it is a lot easier to do that for multiplatform games than 360. Has anyone actually though about how long it takes to localize FFXIII, all that dialogue must take a while and FFXIII hasn't even come out in Japan. Im pretty sure if there was no 360 version, it would still come out 2010
