I'm quite disturbed with that info from Game Informer. I don't think it is a good idea to change the battle system. Enhancement is all right, but to totally remove it and change it to a totally different one... It's a NO, NO!
i think they should use the origional but also that they should adapt it and expand upon what is already there, More summons, more magic, more materia, more weapons, better attack animations, better death animation, etc
if they change the battle system i will still buy it but i will die a little inside and possibly stop playing final fantasy if they do this change to the battle system
I don't really want a remake. I think Square Enix is spending way too much time on Final Fantasy VII related stuff. I say stick with the original game and make new Final Fantasys, with the old battle system... If fans want Final Fantasy VII so bad then I say Square should re-release it here in NA like what they are going to do with their popular hits in Japan this July.
Their two top dev teams are currently working on FF13 games, so if the announcement is true, then FF7 is being worked on by an inexperienced, second-rate team. And why announce it less than a week after E3? And why only have a still of the tech demo itself? And why just a single sentence about it in a corner of a middle page? And why would Square have some American magazine announce it first instead of themselves? It sounds a lot to me that EGM just tried to predict a likely announcement for E3 to look like it's fresh info and missed, at least for the time being.
If they really do remake FFVII, I truly hope that the battle system will remain the same. A remake should follow the same rules and guidelines as the original. The remake should bring about a new aspect and ingenuity to the game, yet remain true to its roots.

So, how will you explain FFIII DS? THere is no need for a game to be broken for them to remake it. Test of time is the answer. Sometimes, no matter how good a game is, change should be made... But I'm more for improvements than a complete change. That's what I feel when they remade FFIII. FFIII was vry special to me 'coz it is my first RPG, but seeing that the remake is quite good, I'm happy for what happened to it.

Remember FFXIII?
FF13 wasn't offiically announced until a week ago; granted people knew it was going to happen so it's no surprise (SE did say last year they're working on a new FF game for the PS3). However, the official announcement didn't come in a magazine. Frankly at this point so many people are so sure that the remake is happening that they're saying "when" it comes out as opposed to "if", which is causing a lot of confusion.
If they do remake FFVII, I hope they retain the original formula, with some additions and a whole new makeover. Better graphics, REAL sound (no to midi), more materia, some more items and equipment....
And answer all of the mysteries listed by FF Citadel, like those mystery key items, inaccessible cave, etc.
For the battle system? I'm dreaming of that active feeling of FFXII. No dresspheres! Just make it that the character's position actually moves, instead of you and the enemy being in separate rows. With that, they should have the battle elements back like pincer, back attacks, preemptive strike, long range.... just like FFVII.
to me.. i dont really care if they make some changes (and probably some extras(!!)).. Remaking Final Fantasy 7 is already the best news ive ever heard!! (if its true..) :?
KOC you always seem so sure VII will never be Reborn, why is this? are you not a remakes person? even so im sure because you dont think its going to happen its not.
whats the point of a remake if it is going to be exaclty the same except graphics we have all experienced it y experience the exact same thing again. change something to it like the battle system. and fighting sephiroth in real time would be awesome.Â
