I hope that there isn't a sequel to FFVIII. The ending was complete enough. Besides, considering the sequels to VII (no plot/crappy game) and X(What happened to all the dudes?), it would probably just ruin another great game.
It's Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. Maybe you're talking about the article I made few months ago when the info about Revenant Wings was brought out to the public.
Few weeks ago, Square divulged some info and they confirmed that it is a spin-off of Final Fantasy XII.
That article actually made me smile as I was reading it. I'm happy to see that a new "entry level" FF is being made for all of the younger generation getting DSs' from mommy and daddy for christmas and birthdays. They will get a chance to play the game as we played it (or at least as I did when FF1 was released...showing my age here :) ). I like the fact that they are targeting people who would shy away from the series due to the complexity and involvement that is now accustomed to the FF series. It is intimidating being thrown into a series like this one and not knowing anything about opposing elements, armor and weapon stats, leveling up a character to prepare for bosses, world map travel and all the things we've (or at least I have...again) grown up with along with the series. I for one am happy to see the "backtracking" if you will, in complexity while still driving the story forward. I also like how he pointed out that this is NOT "FF XII-2" but more storyline associated with the world of Ivalice.
This is my first time hearing about it. I wonder if it's going to be good. I probably won't but it if it's just a spin-off. Because the original game hasn't even been released. :P
