Translated: As fans of the Final Fantasy series, the games will always last for us, however no brand or product can last forever. I wonder what Square will develop after it stops producing Final Fantasy games, i post this in pretence to future generations of gamers on whether or not they will still be able to play Final Fantasy games or whatever Square decides to develop next. I would also like to hear other peoples opinion on the subject.
Reply: I don't think Square will be able to carry on the FF brand for much longer, lets face it "Final Fantasy XXV" sounds quite ridiculous but i don't think it will ever stop making RPGs, its just too good at it! They may simply rename the FF brand for future generations or start a new game with elements of FF in it. I hope future gamers will still be able to play FF, i think its important to know the history of games, especially epic series like FF, its kind of like playing Chrono Trigger or any of the earlier FF's today.
Well, if you think about it, SE is already sending the series down the drain, there are many other RPG's out there that are much better than the most recent installments of FF, as an example I'll go with the latest Fire Emblem for GC, I loved that game, and unlike the newest FF;s it kept me entertained for a long time. Final Fantasy is already starting to die out, its doing it slowly, But its happening, as another example I'll talk about the recent actions of SE, of making sequels to FF's, some one above was talking about Ideas and how it would take a long time to run out, Well if thats the case, then why are there Sequels to games that we have already beaten, X-2, and SE has even announced that they are going to have a sequel for XII, and don't even get me started on XIII and XIII versus, SE is already running out of ideas, they are on there last leg so to speak.
So when you ask me how much longer FF will last, I'll say only this, If they have to make sequels to the games that were already made, and were great, and they cant make up there own new stuff (at least not very often) then it will not be to much longer before FF dies out. Trust me, we will be seeing the demise of SE and FF very soon.

Of course, that is a matter of opinion. So far, Square Enix's titles for the 06 year have done fairly well. Regardless of the mixed feelings on Dirge of Cerberus, it managed to sell 500,000+ copies. That's extremely well for a game completely out of the ordinary for the Final Fantasy series(and for a game in general). Next week it hits North America, so I am looking forward to it.
You made a reference to Fire Emblem for the GC, it isn't bad at all. But it still falls under the category of Japanese RPGs which have a lacked innovation for the current generation of games. Besides what Square Enix released in the past few years, the only real successful RPGs have been from developers in Europe and in North America. I didn't play Xenosaga, my last Breath of Fire game was the third installment, no Shadow Hearts, etc. Honestly, I even surprised myself! Besides Final Fantasy(DQ and KH), I would pick The Elder Scrolls or the Knights of the Republic series over any of those Japanese RPGs that released in the past 4 or 5 years.
I wrote an article about the changes Square Enix has made. They are going to improve on Final Fantasy. The adjustments for the gameplay is focused on a North American and European consumer market since the Japanese market isn't as big as it had been years ago. But I think you'll see that same Japanese style influence with a formula from overseas. That is exactly what Final Fantasy XII is!

Your right, its all a matter of opinion, and I'm going up agianst the famous NeoGen, Sounds like a challenge lol, But to my actual point. You mentioned sails of games as one of your mager points of discousion, so I am going to refer back a few years to FFX, an ok game, But not really, No offense to Square (cause it was still Square) but when you put X up next to previous entries it just doesnt work, X was really not that great of a game, but it sold millions, Why? I'll tell you why.
X was released just at the point when a yunger geniration would have gotten into gaming, and the yunger geniration was so stunned by X's terrific graphics that they didnt worry about the actual game, When you look at the game in a whole you find that X did have great graphics, But the story was lacking, and the main character (Tidus) was a ditz to me. But the game still sold millions because of the great graphics, So you cant really put how many copines were sold as your biggest argument, because no matter how many it sold it doesnt mean that the game was any good.
Then SE took over, and pretty soon they came out with X-2, a sequil, The thing that made FF so great was that no two games were linked to eachother, and X-2 ruined that, not only that but they ruined the Bitter sweet ending By making [SPOILERS] Tidus come back. And now even more sequels are going to be made. I just feel that SE has been making sub-par games, and they are only getting money because of there large fan base.
Thats all I've got for now, I'll be waiting for your reply NeoGen
Actually, Final Fantasy X was a great game period. When it came out the critics enjoyed it. Our own Gamespot gave it a 9.3! And I even remember on Toonami, the host Tom did a short review of the game, quote, "utter wicked-ness". People just like the comfort of the familiar, and sometimes they can't see when there is a good game in front of them. The 10th installment of the series is a keeper.
But I understand what you mean! There are some games that do extremely well because it's a familiar franchise, but that doesn't mean it is good. I have the import version of Dirge of Cerberus. Right after I got my copy, I posted that I had developed mixed feelings about it. I honestly think that Dirge of Cerberus is one of those games which will appeal to a selective group of people, but perhaps the changes in the North American verison will increase the value of the gameplay.
What role playing games need is another revolution. Until Japanese developers can grasp the concept of open-ended design, Japanese RPGs will remain the same. I think Square Enix has taken the necessary risks to slowly embed a overseas style that growing popular with the genre and players. I don't think Final Fantasy will be around forever, but I think the constant changes will keep it around even longer. Dirge of Cerberus was a great idea. Tell me that Vincent and shooting don't go together! But no matter the disappointment, Square Enix knows how to refine the quality in a franchise to make a game much better then what it has been. And if they continue to improve on Final Fantasy, I am pretty sure it won't be going anywhere soon.
i hope they'll stick around. i wont games to play with my children. FF's have been a big learning experience for me. for eg during playing FF8 when it 1st came out i was quite young and it reminded me often to keep hold of friendships and do right by the people you care for.
this is the sort of gamming id like the next generations to learn from and enjoy.
