Only a person who has actually played the game (i'm not) can give a really objective thought if it is worth it. From a game rpoint of view who loves Final Fantasy, if you have the money, sure give it a shot. I have a number of friends who have played the game and they all say they had a great time with the game, and are very proud in showing us some pictures of them and their friends adventuring in the world of Vana 'diel. On the practical point of view (especially if you do not have that much spare money), I do not recommend it. There are a lot of other games out there, which are also good, or may even be better. The money you would spend for the fees to play it may already be saved for other games.

Finla Fantasy XI: Online (and all its expansions) is a MMORPG. It does not have a single player mode.

The MMORPG genre hasn't really changed dramatically but it has become more streamlined. When it really comes down to it Final Fantasy XI was a good MMORPG, and probably is still to many. I won't mention anything regarding World of Warcraft since it released in 2004. Lord of the Rings Online is the newest edition into the genre, and tells a better story then Final Fantasy XI. Not to mention the manner in which LOTRO tells it's story in a MMO realm is actually more unique(especially when it comes to roleplaying). Not to mention LOTRO is more refined. Not mention Age of Conan, and Warhammer Online will be releasing this year.

Final Fantasy fans hesitated when it came to FFXI, but I find many people enjoying it. Final Fantasy XI is showing it age now(not as much as Asheron's Call), but there's a lot of content. Is it worth the monthly fee? Could be; but there are better MMORPGs out on the market now.

I played ff11 for about a year... and in absolute honesty, the unfortunate truth is no, its not...... for an average ff fan, ff11 requires to much commitment and patients not worth the monthy fee for most.

Im not going to lie... ff11 housed some of the most spectacular mmo moments ive ever experienced and i miss is dearly, but its simply aged to much.. attempting to get into the game at this time is an increadible challange, only the hardcore fans still remain withing the games servers (mostly being japanese players, wich u share the same servers with). One great thing about ff11 is that it posses possibly the highest "quality of life" than anyother mmo on the market now, almost everyone u meet in that game is very freindly and helpfull as oposed to the crude behavior of most WoW players, a very attractive soundtrack wich are complimented by beutiful enviorments, personaly i felt rigth at home when i emersed myself into that game years back.

If u are planning on purchasing a next gen console or PC or have one already, and if u are familiar with mmorpgs and are willing to invest the time required to fully emerse urself in them, then just wait it out for SEs upcoming MMORPG in the works, i have faith it wil be succeful, seeing as ff11 came out b4 WoW, and now SE knows what a good formula for online rpgs is, observing WoWs success.

I've never liked MMORPGs cuz it was just too much of a comitment and grinding was boring as hell:P Saying you are going to get to level 75 in FFXI is like saying you're going to give up your life for a virtual world and you can't really do much other than grind and tedious quests until you are around level 30 or so (which takes tons of hours).... and monthly fees suck.

So if you enjoy the regular Final Fantasy games that tell a great story and have engaging gameplay, don't buy it.... If you like MMORPGs and want to waste the rest of your life in front of your PC go for it:lol:

It's not a bad game, however, I doubt many people are online playing it today.

Actually, between the PS2, PC, and 360 (which all share the same servers) more than ten million people are playing it online today:D The FFXI universe is still expanding (via expantion packs, mods) and since it's the first (and only) MMORPG to feature internation servers, you can even play with people in different countries (there is a auto-transolater too.) So there are plenty of people playing it:D

Interesting!...But I hate most (if not all) MMORPGs! they offer nothing in return for your long hours hardwork! I mean, you play for god-only-knows-how-much hours per day to grind(and may I add ONLY to grind) all day long and let's just say you somehow got to lvl 50(I said somehow,so let's not emphisize here)...Then what? what did you get out of it? .....Ok,I know you tried hard to look for the answer so I'll tell ya....NOTHING!!! I mean zelch nana nothing!.

There's no story whatsoever for you to explore! The battle system is by all means anything BUT interactive! The enemies are almost always stupid(No AI present)......Ok,maybe the community's great, maybe making friends is great...but that's all there's to it!

PS:I'm talking about most MMORPGs here(I've played several of them, and somehow they seem to share the same formula...) and NOT FFXI cuz I haven't played it!

Yah, FFXI has a story though.... and you can uncover the truths through beating defferent dungions and quests:D But other than that and the inernational servers, it is your conventional MMORPG.....
