I just wanted to know what RPG's you guys like besides Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Here's mine:do not forget elder scrolls oblivion for the psp and ps3
1)Elder Scrolls Series(Xbox/PC/X360)-Great Open ended gameplay.
2)Baldurs Gate series/Neverwinter Nights(PC)-Baldurs gate is the epitome of wester rpgs and Neverwinter Nights followed it's footsteps.
3)Star Ocean(SNES)-I love the soundtrack on this, actually more than lots of Final Fantasy tracks. Plus, it's one of the most advanced SNES games ever made.
4)Chrono Trigger(SNES)-Best RPG ever made in my opinion. EA close second for me is DQVIII. Not to mention a soundtrack that gives Final Fantasyu a run for its money.
5)Shining Force(Genesis)-My favorite Tactics rpg before I played FFT.
6)KOTOR series(Xbox)-Amazing rpgs. Bioware always gets the job done.

The second story (Star Ocean) was AMMMMMAAAZZING. Star Ocean 3 was alright. I wouldn't say terrible though.Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Star Ocean: The second story, Xenogears, Illusion of Gaia, Breath of Fire 2, 3 and 4, Tactics Ogre.
By the way Star Ocean Till The End Of Time blows.

I could sit here and list great RPGs all day. Elder Scrolls. Breath of Fire. The first Star Ocean. 7th Saga. Illusions of Gaia. Diablo. Temple of Elemental Evil. Baulders Gate. KOTOR. Megaman Legends (though it is debatably not an RPG). Dark Cloud. Ultima. Akalabeth. That's just a few

[QUOTE="NeoGen85"]I didn't bother with Xenosaga either.raiden300
i cannot begin to tell you how much you are missing out
On what? A lame battle system? 2 hours of cut scenes for every 5 minutes of gameplay? Xenosaga blows. Xenogears had awesome gameplay and a great storyCurrently on my shelf and soon to be played:

On what? A lame battle system? 2 hours of cut scenes for every 5 minutes of gameplay? Xenosaga blows. Xenogears had awesome gameplay and a great storyI spent 80+ hours with Xenogears. I think it is a nice game, but I did not really enjoy the disc 2. It's more of an interactive story book. I got bored and I found myself rapidly pressing the buttons to bypass/fast forward the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG dialogues.Fantasy_GamerLOL first time i played XENOGEAR was on a demo Disk and from their i searched for it untill i finaly found it

Xenogears had awesome gameplay and a great storyThe battle system had its faults but it is not THAT bad. the system in the first one was pretty basic but it got better with each episode. And the cutscenes are not as bad as every 5 minutes. they are always grouped together so you may get three or four in a row but then have a big gameplay section to get through. i have never understood the problem with the cutscenes , they never bothered me. If you have not played at least episode 1 and 2 then you cannot comment on the story and in my opinion it rivals the story in Xenogears and i LOVE xenogears.
[QUOTE="Amnesiac23"]I knew I was forgetting something. Dark Cloud 2!!!.....What is wrong with me.Empi3Heh. you're not alone. i played DC2 2 weeks ago and i already forgot about it. DC2 is like GTA to me. you can do (almost) everything. =] lol yes, that game is great. The first one....terrible. But Dark CLoud 2 made amazing improvments over the first game. :P Collecting citizens is very annoying though. But I love the building and the battle system
I didn't play Xenosaga just because I've seen that game before. It's the same reason why I didn't play Shadow Hearts, Dark Cloud, and a few other Japanese RPGs that almost everyone in FFE has played at least once. I think RPGs reached there peak with the SNES and the PSOne.
Then the PS2 came out and a lot of the RPGs that were created were made to only appeal to the gamer who enjoyed playing them, especially games that followed a Japanese protocol. A great RPG is made when it's considered to be outside of traditional; or when a company makes a roleplaying game(like Final Fantasy) which can compete with other games outside of its genre instead of remaining within its niche.
Then you have The Elder Scrolls, Gothic, Neverwinter Nights, Fable, and Knights of the Old Republic which are RPGs outside the comfort zone. I just think they're better RPGs..like everyone else. What I mean is a RPG is great when it's created for the masses. I think Final Fantasy XII has enough for the hardcore RPGer but I think it's going to appeal to a different audience at the sametime.
