The mysteries of Final Fantasy

I luv FF games,but got irritated at the fact that each FF game had sumthing about it that didn't make ne sense.

For example in FFX(since it's the easiest 1 I can remember)Yuna's father defeated Sin when she was 8.The Calm is supposed to last ten years.If she's only 17 why is it appearing now.
