you know when games age well (like handdrawn games) graphically and they hold either great gameplay (baulders gate II: shadows of amn) or addictive gameplay (diablo 2) they become reprinted and people swarm to buy them, new gamers go back and revisit them. this happens especially in series. games that need updating but have a great storyline get remade. games get packaged together and resold on newer systems....

IMO the FF series holds many games that hold the necessary qualities to get revisited (why else would fans like FantasyGamer replay them over and over), i myself revisited the FFs earlier games via anthology begginings and chronicles.

what FF games are the best to revisit?

after watching that one movie on youtube ive got to say FFVIII through to FFX cg sequences have really lasted, though there may not be much of them compared to what it looks like it will be in the future

I say the games after the very beginning of the series and when the series went to 3D hold up quite nicely.

4 and 6 hold up because they have solid stories in my opinion.  Sure the gameplay is alright, but I'm definitely not playing through FF6 again for the battles (Who would?  There are so many).  Also the 2-D ones have the Old school nostalgia going for them.  Final Fantasy in general holds up because of their stories.  If you think about it, 4 and 6 don't have that much that is different from the original except for SNES graphics and a much stronger story (And Espers/Summons of course).  What was said about the cinematics in 8 & 9 is also true, they were the bar back then and are better done than some of todays.  I remember when it could truthfully be said that Squaresoft had the best FMVs anywhere.  Nowadays I always have to toss up between Square, Blizzard (WoW's opening cinematic is amazing), and Tecmo (Dead or Alive 3 & 4, and Ninja Gaiden though I don't know if I would put them on the same artistic level as the other two).  So do the oldest ones hold up?  Maybe not, but if 4 and afterwards are given graphics overhauls and a little gameplay tweaking I'm sure they would satisfy even todays audience.

maybe if it was just a skin remake, like the sprites and background were hand drawn, i mean they are only 2D games im sure you wouldn't have to do to much, and they are better left unchanged. Id buy those two games again just for that

Well they're solid games even today and then when you throw in the nostalgia factor they get even better.

Final Fantasy IX deserves to be remade just because it is one of the most underrated in the series.

For some reasons, I don't really think that FF6 has a great plot. Yes, it is interesting that for each character ther eis a whole lot of story behind them, but it is mostly optional. It is not a part of th emain story. You can even go to the last dungeon even if you completely leave the rest of your party in the world of ruin.

i couldn't agree more, though they did get into some very inventive and fun situations, FFV and FFVI was about huge destruction, evil and bloody great gameplay

and we have even more FFIX fans, personally i think it was so good it doesn't need to be remade

exactly I prefer any of the older NES and SNES titles myself, although I do like the spoken dialogue of the newer titles its still fun going back to the games that are text only, I also like the older titles cause they were more free-roaming now days its just point A to point B to C etc like FFX I liked it back when there was just this big world to had to explore and find your way to dungeons based on directions given by NPCs not  by simply following a flashing cursor

Agreed MG,
trouble is free rain of your characters is good but not to much, or else you get games like Baldurs Gate or Fable which can be completed story wise in an few hours but to have some deacent game time you have to do all sorts of unnessacry ( to the plot ) stuff?
is the trade off worth it?
I really liked VIII where at sevral times in the story you had free rain and could do what you liked!

I don't think it will work as wonderful as what FF7 has currently. FFXII is more on exploration and battle.

well you are right about being able to get through the storyline too quickly with those games but thats where you have to have self control and instead of just rushing through the story take time to explore and enjoy everything about the game, but thats hard for alot of people

too true!
restraint in storys is hard especialy if youre enjoying them!
thats why FF's are so great theres optional stuff but the best stuff is always compulsary.
