What type of story makes a Final Fantasy good?

Love is in every FF almost it adds more character and gives a exstra feel to them but so does the actoion them both combine makes a great story in my opinion

I like the love stories and sometimes the lighthearted stories.

This is tricky, I love deep involving stories that have multiple levels of character interaction. As the characters have to feel right, they have to interact with the environment right. I love VIII and X, because the characters, the story, environments worked together to create a very likeable (in my opinion) vibe. Now I love those games based on many more reasons, but those are the big ones.

FFVIII's story was like America; good idea gone completely wrong...VII had a good one, IX was ok, X was very very simple, FFT:WOTL is easily the best story, but i don't play Final Fantasy jus for th story got books for that, the games are phenomenal in their own right in the first place, especially the PS1 era...
