I do like Final Fantasy VIII a lot. The more I replay it, the better it gets for me. However, I have some complaints like:

-the story goes downhill once you hit the 3rd disk.

-outside of Squall and Rinoa, the characters aren't very developed or interesting(except maybe Laguna).

-the draw system can beannoying, but that gets on my nerves less as you progress throughout the game more(and the reason I always draw is because I hate the card game. Stupid stupid stupid).

-the junction system turns everyone into clones of each other.

Overall, the game is a solid 9 for me, 9.5 if I'm feeling generous. The game does offer hours and hours of content and some pretty good replay value.

-The Junction System allows for endless customization options, thus, allowing FF8 to live up with the word "Role-Playing Game"... You can make the characters you want to take the job you want them to take.

-Eyes on Me

-Love story

-Cactuar as summon XD

-Triple Triad.

i find that ff8 card game is so much easyer to understand than ff9 only problem being to get all the cards you have to lose some at certain parts of the game. junctioning and drawing magic/gf's is really cool. im yet to complete the game myself im on the last boss but have got ko afew times in its final stage but hey ho i will complete it soon :)

I love FFVIII :D My second favorite ff game. I reallly liked the characters and story. The junction system was pretty cool once you figure out the best way to use it. Great soundtrack too, especially Liberi Fatali and Eyes on Me.

What I liked the most was that... realistic edge it had (character wise), the fights were really fun, the animations were over the top (for that time... well, actually, they still look nice) and I also liked that monsters leveled up as you do.

PC version was far better than the PSOne version... but my current PC does not run it :( and from what I know the only FF's that monsters level up with you are 8 and Tactics.

Vista has a lot of incompatibilities with games released before it. As for Windows 7, I heard it only emulates XP so as to be somewhat compatible with older games.

a little off topic with windows 7 (sorry stuie :P ), windows 7 has something called XP Mode, that as you well said, emulates WinXP, the problem is that this will be only available to the Professional and Ultimate versions of Win7... so, well, that's all :)

I honestly cant think of anything about FFVIII that isnt better than every other FF ever. the summons were the best, the characters were the best, the junction system is still the best levelling system ever in any game, the magic system was excellent, the story was epic... If there was one thing that i perhaps thought COULD be improved on... perhaps was that i found the game to be a tad too easy... until those damn propagators...

Windows XP mode is a virtual machine set up to use Windows XP.  This means you are essentially running a program which is pretending to be a computer and then installing Windows XP on that "computer" (I could post a screenshot of that if you don't understand).  Because the virtual machine is sharing the resources with the processor, it is pretty inefficient and I would never try to play games on it (though FF8 is probably old enough that it won't matter). I have also had problems running fullscreen games on it as the resolution of the machine is controlled by the window size in Win7 - the game (think it was Fallout) tries to change the resolution and can't so it crashes.

However, once you have installed a program on the virtual machine you can run it in Windows 7 without needing the virtual machine running.  I do not know how well this works with games as I have never tried it but Windows XP Mozilla Firefox seemed speedy enough on Windows 7...

In conclusion...FF8 might work on Windows 7.  I don't have my copy to test with me.

The thing I like most about FFVIII is the music, other than that...well, let's put it this way: it's in the middle of my list of favorites.

well, RIGHT now the only way would be via Remote Play, your PS3 will be running the game, streaming it to your PSP but that is not as good as it sounds... what I meant before was IF the game was ever released in the PSN store then You could play it in the PSP too. (you can play all PSOne classics in your PSP)

It's on the Japanese PSN store, but if you can't read Japanese, this comment is useless.

Final Fantasy VIII..in my opinion...

Likes :

-Romance :P

-Music like Eyes on Me,The Man with the Machine Gun etc. etc.

-Mini Games

-School life settings (Even if it's just a weeny bit.)

Dislikes :

-Hasty and sudden development of romance between Squall and Rinoa.

-Story needs slight improvements.

-More background info on the characters are needed, especially Ultimecia.

-Some times, things get illogical or confusing.
