I don't play many RPG's.
DS has made me like them again, FF IV was great, if not a little over rated. However, FF XII gets a lot of hate, why is this? Also, I just bought it as I haven't [played many RPG's so won't have a lot to compare it to.

For me, it felt too different from the rest of the series. I found the characters underdeveloped and uninteresting. The story was boring me to death, I wasn't compelled to make any progress. The actual gameplay was fun, but it also lost its 'epicness', due to the lack of battle themes.
Basically, it wasn't Final Fantasy. I still like the game, though.
cause it's freaking terrible.

everything sucked about it compared to the older games, characters, story, music, they changed the fighting system around for some god unknown reason and the new one was terribly boring and no fun at all. It wasn't even a Final Fantasy game imo.

Next-Gen-Tec
Love your Jak and Daxter powercell sig btw, those were great times, the dances were so funny and i liked the slam dunk one the best
So I should have gotten Dragon Quest VIII?Next-Gen-TecI am playing that game right now! but i just started it. Weird that you mention it because i let my friends borrow FFXII and he let me borrow DragonQuest. I can't accurately judge, some people like FFXII so try it out for yourself. I however am not one of those people
I don't hate the game, it was just so drastically different to the Final Fantasy games i'm used to, and sure change is good, but FFXII just didn't feel right, the storyline was quite bland and boring too, especially when you compare to other epic storylines in previous games of the series.
Â
It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but probably my worst Final Fantasy in the series.
[QUOTE="Next-Gen-Tec"]So I should have gotten Dragon Quest VIII?WAIW
Yes, yes you should have.
DQ VIII is a bit too traditional for its own good, but I still enjoyed it far more than FF XII.
I'm playing it right now, I am not very far but its kool.

I feel like some other company made it and then got conterfeit square enix logos and stamped final fantasy on it because thats what it felt like.
I didn't hate FFXII either but I still prefer FFVII and FFX over it. Mainly because the musics didn't seem too "FFish" compared to the others imo, secondly there wasn't much balance of action cut-scenes going around like it was in FFX, they have focused more on conversational cut scenes than action-oriented ones. The characters waren't that entertaining at least for me, I mean Vaan is the lead character but as you progress through the story, you feel that he doesn't play much of roles to shape up the story.
Also, while I was adventuring, things just felt "dead" if you know what I mean. In FFX you can feel while adventuring that you're truly moving forward through the story and you couldn't wait to see the next cut scene and what surprises the character have in store. FFXII just didn't carry that motivation, I always felt like "Ok, I still got hundreds of mobs to kill before a new cut scene triggers, most likely it's all going to be a coversation between Ashe and another characters" and surprisingly it ended up that way.
Still, I did like FFXII, but just hoping that FFXIII brings back the old FF feels.
I liked FFXII, though only for the optional stuff really, such as hunting marks and looking for espers.
The main quest itself in XII was mediocre at best for me. Dull characters, with the exception of Balthier (even then, I didn't think he was THAT great, like many people seem to think...), graphics that IMO were not as good as FFX's, music that was boring except for the esper battle music, just "okay" gameplay, meh story, an optional boss with an absurd amount of HP (took me FOOOOOREVER to beat Yiazmat :?).
So I should have gotten Dragon Quest VIII?Next-Gen-Tec
We can't speak for you, dude. :P Personally, I liked DQVIII better.
But since you already bought XII, you might as well give it a try. You might love it.

Yeah, well DQV on the DS is my favourite RPG, so I'm okay with that.Anyway, thanks for the info people.
Yizmat huh if you think hes a pain in the ass just wait till you see omega mark13
Blitzcrisis274
NO!!!!!!!!! NOT OMEGA XIII!Â
I know what ya mean by the way thanks for the heads up. Have you killed him yet? hes hard and annoying he does heaps of damage and the amount of Hp is a pain and he attacks real fast took me loads of trys to finish him. It was satisfying after I killed him though. I love twelve it is and always will be one of my favs :D
For me Omega Mark XII was harder, but what made Yiazmat a taugh fight was due to his large health pool, the fight just forces casual players to leave the battle, save, and continue the fght another time, it took me like 3 days to get him down since I was playing like only 1 hour a day during that time.
Hate it when they try to make a fight hard by just increasing the length of the fight, that's why I prefered Omega's challenge over Yiazmat's :)
I never even knew about omega mark XII. I beat FFXII, thinking I beat the toughest enemy in the game, Yiazmat, though apparantly it's Omega mark XII...
oh well, I don't really care about XII that much that I'd replay it again to beat Omega mark XII. >_>Â
Actually I think that my problem with the game was that the bosses from the story were pushovers. If you are having trouble I sugest leveling up more. also I think zodiark would come second in place he hade some tough attacks though omega 13 was basicly just hits you again and again:P
I didn't find Omega Mark XII all that hard. I remember having much more trouble against Zodiark. My party was on the verge of being wiped out during the whole battle. :xGamer4Iife
Yeah, he was a pain...and I don't think I ever recall ever using him either. Though that's probably because using espers was pretty much useless in FFXII...Â
IMO, I enjoyed the world of FFXII very much. I thought the look//style of the environments was more intimate then previous FFs.
The characters were alright...I thought they tried a little too hard with the voice-acting, or in Vaans case, not hard enough.
The battle system...not my favorite. I can definitely see what SE was trying to do...(Making combat a bit more realistic compared to the traditional ATB) but for a FF game ... really I think they could have just made a new game entirely for the battle system.
The OST didn't really bother me. I didn't expect much considering Uemastu only contributed one song :(.
So yeah, going along with the majorities opinion, it was too different.

Yeah, I think I only used espers twice in my entire 120+ hours playthrough. Belias, when I first got him and Zodiark, just to see if he was as overpowered as when I fought him. :P

Hmph, I used Belias a couple times, and then afterwards just used quickenings for the rest of the game. :|
Never used Quickenings, either. :o I hated the fact that they drained all your MP.Hmph, I used Belias a couple times, and then afterwards just used quickenings for the rest of the game. :|

I didn't really like that it used all that MP, either, which is why I would be prepared with plenty of ethers. ;)Â

That so? I don't remember ever thinking ethers were useless when I played XII, which was a while ago, so...meh...:P
I personally liked the game, but I suppose it's just a matter of personal preferences.

 Can't...stop...laughing. I actually have a friend who thought Vaan was a decent character. Personally, I liked Balthier better.

Balthier is better than Vaan, though that's like saying getting hugged is better than getting kicked in the balls. :lol:Â
I didn't think he was all that great... Dunno why everyone loved him. Same thing with Gabranth...Balthier is better than Vaan, though that's like saying getting hugged is better than getting kicked in the balls. :lol:Â

It was the accent. :P Not to mention, a lot of girls think he's cute. xD But I don't really get the Gabranth thing either...
Hmm. Maybe I should start dressing like him and talking with that accent...Gamer4Iife
 You're not serious...are you? But it probably would work...well maybe the accent would. And being a gentlemen always helps too! :P

I really don't understand why Gabranth is considered such a great chracter either. My favourites are Ashe and Basch because there is a good background story behind them both.
