i guess that's as good a way to put it as any.
im going to have to agree with that first answer. The optional bosses are for the die hard fans that can appreciate the tougher fights. The die hard fan of the game has the compulsion to beat the game in every possible aspect, this results in said die hard fan possibly enjoying the game more, thus inspiring them to buy other games made by the same company.
Sooo really if you ask me its a marketing thing, but I may be looking too deeply into this....I tend to do that sometimes
