i think its just giving him some pain but its not actually broken. remember when he was struck down by Yunalesca in a flash back, he did got hurt there.

Yeah, something like that ^. When i first played i thought there was something wrong with it, but then he got it out and started fighting with it, i was like :O

hmmm im not really all that sure, I know it works but maybe it hurts, or its a habit but now that he was dead and comes back as just a dream it works again, but why did square decide to make his arm completely dead in Kingdom Hearts 2 then if hes dead there too hmmm
Actually there is a true reason for him having his arm in a sling and not showing. After he fulfilled his job as protecting Braska, and after Jecht died and became Sin, he became a Ronin. If you are not aware of what a Ronin is, it is a type of a Samurai figure. The reason that he keeps his arm inside his sleeve is because it is a sumbol of losing his sword arm, or as other call it his Master. I hope that helps you in your wondering why Auron keeps his arm inside his sleeve/sling.
I had always thought that he was saving strength in his arm. You know only using his arm when he had to so that it was stronger. But it's not a very good explanation as you can see, Injury when fighting yunalesca is a much better explanaion.
I've always personally thought that it was from fighting Yunalesca. Before then his arm was fine and the fact that they left it unexplained meant that it wasn't anything too far fetched.
